Lone Star Picks & Predictions — October 8, 2026
It's a beautiful Thursday afternoon at Lone Star Park — clear skies, 86°F, and a fast Dirt surface that should reward horses with early foot all day long. Eight races are on the card, all run on the straight dirt strip that Lone Star's Quarter Horse-heavy program is built around, with distances ranging from a lightning-quick 250 yards all the way out to 400 yards in the day's marquee Allowance.
The short-distance format means these races are decided in seconds, so post position, break quality, and gate speed are everything. On a warm, dry day like today with no moisture in the track, expect consistent times and little surface variability — what you see in the morning line is largely what you're going to get.
Our TrackWiz algorithms have processed the full card and surfaced some sharp angles, including a legitimate longshot play in Race 5 and a high-confidence top pick in the Allowance feature. Let's get into it.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden · 300 yd · Dirt
A wide-open maiden sprint at 300 yards where TrackWiz ratings create a clear top tier — but with a field of first-timers, anything can happen in the blink of an eye.
Aggie Kisses draws the 2-hole and earns the top TrackWiz rating in this field at 88.54, a significant margin over the rest. Trainer Marc E. Jungers sends her out with jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr. — a competent pairing for a debut runner. At 2/1 on the morning line, the market agrees with our analysis, and in a short field of maidens, a horse this far ahead on ratings deserves to be your anchor bet.
Marys Blue Diamond checks in with a solid 66.89 TrackWiz rating, second-best in the field, and Victor Manuel Urieta, Jr. is an active presence in the Lone Star tack room. Going off at 5/1, she offers genuine value in the exacta and place pool behind the favorite. Trainer Harvey Baeza has runners on this card, which suggests the connections are engaged and ready to fire.
Running Dragon Fire (57.62 rating) lands at 9/2 and represents the third tier of this maiden field with Rigoberto Camarillo Ortega up for trainer Aracely Mejia. In a 300-yard burst where the race is over almost instantly, gate speed and a clean break can overcome ratings gaps — keep this one in your trifecta tickets as a live fill at a workable price.
Race 2
Maiden · 350 yd · Dirt
Kissin Kachina looks like the class of this 350-yard maiden field, but a tight cluster of mid-tier horses — led by I Am Nme and Butterfli — could make the exacta interesting.
Kissin Kachina tops this field with an 87.81 TrackWiz rating and goes postward from the inside with J.R. Ramirez, Jr. in the irons. Trainer Shae L. Cox is a recognizable Lone Star name, and the 5/2 morning line reflects the horse's standing as the clear class of the field. In a maiden sprint, a horse that grades out nearly 14 points better than the second choice is worth playing straight.
I Am Nme posts a 73.98 rating and heads to the gate as the second choice on the morning line at 7/2 — not far off the favorite's price for a horse that trails only slightly in our model. H. Javier Hernandez takes the call for trainer Adan Guzman, and the inside-out post position at 5 is manageable in a 350-yard dash. Use her underneath Kissin Kachina in exactas.
Butterfli rates 72.65 — nearly identical to I Am Nme — and goes at 3/1, making her arguably the best price in the top three. Rosendo E. Pina Garcia pilots for trainer Rene Talamantes, and her rating separation from the rest of the field (Down in the Swamp at 44.39 is next up) suggests she belongs in the top group. A natural trifecta piece at a fair price.
Race 3
Maiden · 300 yd · Dirt
Twelve horses crammed into a 300-yard maiden dash creates chaos — the market loves Lets B Crystal Clear, but TrackWiz sees Nme Relentlessly as the top-rated horse in the field at a juicy 8/1 price.
Nme Relentlessly earns the highest TrackWiz rating in this twelve-horse field at 79.79, yet the morning line has her at 8/1 — a significant disconnect worth exploiting. Rosendo E. Pina Garcia picks up the mount for trainer Felesha Gold, and in a short sprint packed with longshots, a horse that rates nearly three points above the morning-line favorite is our best bet to lead the way. If the odds hold anywhere near 8/1, this is outstanding value.
Lets B Crystal Clear is the public's choice at 6/5 and posts a 76.71 TrackWiz rating — respectable, but not quite as high as our top pick. Victor Manuel Urieta, Jr. takes over for trainer Jose A. Garcia, and the 1-hole can be a clean break in short sprints at Lone Star. She's the right place horse here: enough ability to land in the top two, and the morning line makes her a natural exacta partner with Nme Relentlessly.
Nicki Nicole (59.30 rating) is the clear third choice in our model and gets Rigoberto Camarillo Ortega up from the 11-hole for trainer Jacobo Mejia. She's a fair price at 7/2 in a sprawling maiden field, and her rating advantage over the next group — Cold Hearted Cowgirl at 53.46 and Dulce de Gemma at 54.17 — is modest but real. Keep her in trifectas as the trailing piece.
The first three races on the card are Maiden sprints at 300 and 350 yards — classic first-time-starter or lightly-raced territory where pace out of the gate is king. Aggie Kisses (Race 1, 2/1 ML) leads our free picks with the top TrackWiz rating on the card through three races at 88.54, while Kissin Kachina (Race 2, 5/2 ML) is close behind at 87.81 — two morning-line favorites we genuinely like on a fast, true surface. The real eyebrow-raiser in the free races is Nme Relentlessly in Race 3, sitting at 8/1 on the morning line despite a TrackWiz rating of 79.79 that suggests the market may be underestimating this one.
The common thread across all three free races: with Dirt playing honest today and no weather interference to muddy the picture, the horses that break cleanly and get to the front early should be very tough to catch in these sub-350-yard dashes. There's almost no margin for a slow start at these distances.
