Wingfoot in Race 1 is the play. Our top-rated free pick on today's card carries the best recent race speed figure among all starters in that six-and-a-half furlong claiming sprint, clocking in at 12.50 sec/furlong, and TrackWiz simulations give him a 35% chance to win at a morning line of 8/5. That's value-aligned pricing on a horse whose numbers back it up.
Now for the scene: Belmont is running in the rain today — 83°F but wet, which means the dirt surface is going to be a factor all afternoon. Moisture tends to compact the Belmont strip and can tighten things up for speed horses, so watch how early pace plays out in those dirt races. Ten races are on the board, mixing claiming and maiden action early before a loaded stretch of four Stakes races (Races 6 through 9) that give this Saturday-caliber card some serious bite.
Races 2, 4, 5, 7, and 10 head to the turf, and with rain in the mix, keep an eye on any late surface changes from track officials — turf cards can flip to the main track quickly when conditions deteriorate. If those races stay on grass, the turf form becomes critical, and TrackWiz has opinions on all of it.

The opener looks like a one-horse show on paper with Wingfoot towering over the field in the ratings, but a claiming opener with seven unproven run styles means pace scenarios are murky and anything can happen at 6½ furlongs on the dirt.
Wingfoot is the class of this field by a wide margin — an 89.12 TrackWiz rating that ranks first and laps the second-best number by more than 24 points. The speed figures back it up: Wingfoot posted the fastest recent race pace of anyone here at 12.50 sec/furlong, and that 75% in-the-money rate across a career is elite for a claiming field. The Jose Lezcano/Linda Rice combination has gone 26% in the win column together over the past year with a 69% ITM rate, and our simulations gave Wingfoot a 35% share of 10,000 race runs — by far the highest in the field. At 8/5 on the morning line you're not getting a gift, but the form clearly justifies favoritism.
Kaz Oil Changer rates second in this field at 65.00 and has shown real affinity for today's exact conditions — one win and placing in six of eleven dirt starts, plus a one-win, two-of-three record at 6½ furlongs specifically. Jockey Julio Hernandez has been sharp over the past year at a 20% win rate and 57% ITM. The concerns are legitimate — recent race speed ranks sixth in the field and a short 22-day turnaround puts this horse slightly short of its optimal rest pattern — so a spot underneath Wingfoot rather than on top makes sense.
Propitious is a sneaky show play at 12/1 morning line given a third-ranked TrackWiz rating of 61.15 and a career 71% in-the-money figure that's the second-best in this field. The recent race speed (12.51 sec/furlong, ranked second) confirms this horse is running well, and placing in each of the last two starts shows current form. The concern is a claiming price jump from $11,000 to $25,000 — that's a significant ask — but trainer Raymond Handal has an A- grade and this horse is capable of running into the exotics at a generous price.

Race 1 is your free look, and Wingfoot is the anchor. He tops our speed ratings for the race, and his jockey has hit the board in half of all starts over the past year with a solid 17% win rate — meaningful consistency in a claiming field where pilot quality often separates close calls. The 8/5 morning line is fair; this isn't a situation where you're laying big chalk with no edge. At 35.17% simulated win probability against that price, the numbers say he's worth a straight win bet.
The rain complicates things slightly for speed horses on dirt — a wet Belmont track can favor closers who avoid early kick and dirt spray — but Wingfoot's raw speed figures still put him clear of this field. If he breaks cleanly and gets a comfortable position, there's no reason he can't hold on. Race 1 is the best starting point on this card for free subscribers, and it's a legitimate best bet, not just a consolation preview.
