Assiniboia Picks & Predictions — September 29, 2026
Good afternoon from Assiniboia Downs, where a crisp fall Tuesday is setting the table for a tight 7-race dirt card. Temperatures sitting at 65°F under partly cloudy skies should keep the surface playing fast and consistent all day — the kind of afternoon where early speed can really dictate outcomes.
The card is a solid mix of Claiming and Allowance company with a Stakes race dropped right in the middle to keep things interesting. We've got a couple of short-price favorites that look tough to beat, but our TrackWiz analysis also turned up a 6/1 longshot angle worth circling before post time. Seven races, plenty of angles — let's break it down.
Best Bets
Race 1
Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
A heavy favorite looms large in this 6-furlong dirt claimer, but the morning line suggests at least a couple of horses capable of making it interesting for the minor awards.
Clippity Cop is the class of this field and it isn't particularly close — a TrackWiz rating of 90 is the highest in the race, and a 40% career win rate is the kind of number that makes the 3/5 morning line look entirely justified. Trainer Michael Nault sends out a horse that Kerron Khelawan pilots, and that combination gets full confidence here. At short odds, the win bet may not offer value on its own, but Clippity Cop belongs at the top of every exotic ticket in this spot.
Not True is an intriguing piece of the puzzle despite a modest 5% career win rate — the TrackWiz rating of 71.38 tells a more flattering story than that raw win percentage suggests. Trained by Marion Johnston and ridden by Antonio Whitehall, this one profiles as a horse that runs consistently without always hitting the winner's circle, which is exactly what you want from a place pick. At 9/2 on the morning line, there's real value in the place spot if the favorite dominates up front.
Jaya Rules rounds out our top three with a solid 48.78 rating and a 16% career win rate that outpaces several others in this field. Neville Stephenson gets the call for trainer Jared Brown, and the 4/1 morning line makes this a worthwhile show ticket or exotic inclusion. The average speed figure of 52 is right in line with the field's median, suggesting Jaya Rules won't be outrun early and can hold form for a board spot.
Race 2
Allowance · 7 1/2 fur · Dirt
This allowance mile-plus trip over 7½ furlongs looks like a clash between a TrackWiz standout and a well-supported morning-line favorite, with the top-rated horse carrying value at a generous price.
Areunotentertained owns the highest TrackWiz rating in the field at 87.81 — a significant edge over the second-ranked runner — and does so while posting an 8% career win rate that understates what the underlying numbers are saying. Kerron Khelawan rides for trainer Jared Brown, who has shown a knack for placing horses to succeed at this level. The 5/2 morning line is fair and possibly generous given the rating gap, and the 7½-furlong distance gives a closer-style horse room to run.
Acquire brings a 16% career win rate — the best in the field — and a TrackWiz rating of 61.86 that makes the 7/2 morning line look like fair value for a place ticket. Shavon Townsend rides for trainer Jason Homer, and this horse's experience winning races suggests it knows how to find the wire. If Areunotentertained draws all the pressure up front, Acquire is set up perfectly to collect a place check.
Princeoftheprairie is the morning-line second choice at 8/5, but TrackWiz analysis slots it third on the board at a 61.21 rating — just a hair behind Acquire. Christopher Roy Mamdeen rides for Carl Norman Anderson, and a 5% career win rate is the one soft spot here. Still, the class of the allowance condition and a consistent average speed figure of 52 make this horse a reasonable show anchor in exacta and trifecta constructions.
Race 3
Stakes · 6 fur · Dirt
Stakes company over 6 furlongs and an interesting pricing puzzle — the morning-line favorite carries a weaker TrackWiz rating than the top pick, setting up a potential overlay at the top of the board.
She's a Maneater is our top pick at 6/1 morning line despite carrying the highest TrackWiz rating in the race at 77.56 — that gap between her price and her rating is exactly the kind of overlay TrackWiz analysis is built to uncover. A 33% career win rate is genuinely strong for stakes competition, and Kerron Khelawan riding for Jared Brown is one of the more reliable combinations on this circuit. At 6 furlongs, a horse with that win rate and that rating is dangerous at any price, let alone a double-digit-to-one territory contender.
Guitars N Cadilaxs is the 2/5 morning-line chalk with a perfect career win rate and the top average speed figure in the field at 54, making it a legitimate win contender as well. Antonio Ambrosio Reyes rides for Robert Van Overschot, and an unbeaten record demands respect. However, the TrackWiz rating of 60 sits notably below She's a Maneater, which is why this one slots into the place position — still a lock to hit the board, but not necessarily a lock to win.
Give Her the Oscar has a 100% career win rate as well, and at 5/1 on the morning line, there could be show value here if the top two battle each other. Christopher Roy Mamdeen teams up with trainer Wendy Anderson, and a 53 average speed figure matches the pace of this short field. The TrackWiz rating of 53.33 is the lowest among our selections, but unbeaten horses with tactical speed are never easy to dismiss in smaller stakes fields.
The first three races are available to all readers, and they give us a nice cross-section of what this card is about. Clippity Cop opens the day as a heavy 3/5 morning-line favorite in the opener — that kind of price tells you the connections are confident, and our rating backs it up at 90, the top mark on the entire card. Race 2 stretches out to 7½ furlongs, which is an unusual distance that tends to sort out the field quickly, and Areunotentertained profiles well for the added ground in the Allowance ranks.
The real attention-grabber in the free section is Race 3 — a 6-furlong Stakes race where She's a Maneater lands at 6/1 on the morning line despite earning a respectable TrackWiz rating of 77.56. Stakes fields often compress the talent level, and when our top pick is being underestimated by the oddsmakers, that's exactly the kind of value angle we love flagging for our readers. On a cool, fast-playing dirt day, front-runners and pace-pressers should get every opportunity to hold on.
