Thistledown Picks & Predictions — October 1, 2026

8 racesAll Thistledown picks

Happy Thursday from Thistledown, where eight races are locked and loaded on a gorgeous early-October afternoon. Temperatures are sitting at a comfortable 75°F under partly cloudy skies — the kind of day where the track should play fair and speed figures hold up from wire to wire.

The card is a deep claiming-heavy lineup with one Stakes race punching up the prestige in Race 7, and TrackWiz analysis has identified compelling angles throughout. Whether you're playing a few races or grinding the full card, there's plenty here to work with.

Three races are open to everyone today, so if you're new to TrackWiz, this is a great opportunity to see our process in action before the action heats up.

Best Bets

Race 1

Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt

A wide-open 6-furlong dirt claimer with a clear class edge at the top — but a deep, competitive middle tier makes the exotics intriguing.

win6Feeling EasyML 3/1

Feeling Easy enters as our top-rated horse in this field with an 87.08 TrackWiz rating — a significant gap over everyone else — and Rocco Bowen gets the call from the saddle. That morning line of 3/1 is fair given the rating advantage, and the 6-furlong sprint distance should play right into her hands. A 17% career win rate isn't flashy, but the overall numbers here say she's simply the best horse on paper.

place3Amy's StarML 5/1

Amy's Star is the most interesting value piece in this race, sporting a 32% career win rate that leads the field and a solid 76.82 TrackWiz rating. Trainer Robin Schuster has a live one here, and at 5/1 on the morning line, there's real overlay potential if the favorite stumbles. She matches the top horses in average speed and looks like a natural exotics inclusion.

show1Come On ArleneML 7/2

Come On Arlene draws the rail in post 1 with Fernando Salazar Becerra aboard and sits third on our ratings at 67.53. A 20% career win rate is respectable for this level, and her average speed matches the top of the field. At 7/2 she's not a barn-burner of a price, but her overall profile makes her a solid show anchor for horizontal tickets.

Race 2

Claiming · 1 mi · Dirt

A one-mile dirt claimer where two horses clearly separate from the pack on ratings — but the pace setup over the longer route could shake things up late.

win4Wicca WisdomML 3/1

Wicca Wisdom tops our ratings at 87.08 for trainer Johanna Urieta and jockey Deshawn L. Parker — a sharp combo at this level. The 3/1 morning line makes her the public choice, and over the course of a mile, horses that carry class tend to assert themselves in the stretch. While her career win rate sits at 18%, the TrackWiz rating gap over most of this field is what drives the confidence.

place1LamporghiniML 5/2

Lamporghini is our second choice at 5/2 on the morning line with a strong 79.74 rating for trainer Oscar Romero and jockey Angel I. Diaz. He has a 17% career win rate, and at a mile, his average speed of 52 is competitive enough to be in the mix late. This looks like a horse who finds his way onto the board consistently at a distance that suits him.

show8Legally LuckyML 5/1

Legally Lucky rounds out our top three with a 78.4 rating and a 5/1 morning line that offers a touch of value in the exotics. Trainer Saul M. Morales has Alexander Chavez up, and the horse's average speed of 53 ties him with Divine Fashion for second-best in the field. As a show play or underneath in exactas, the price is right if the top two run true.

Race 3

Claiming · 5 1/2 fur · Dirt

Big Prankster looks like a potential single in this short-field sprint — the question is whether Liltonytwophones can make it interesting at a competitive price.

win5Big PranksterML 6/5

Big Prankster is a deserving favorite at 6/5 with a field-best 89.71 TrackWiz rating, and Luis Raul Rivera for trainer Jeffrey A. Radosevich is a combo worth following. At 5.5 furlongs, his average speed of 55 ties for the top of the field and his 21% career win rate is solid. Yes, the odds are short — but the rating dominance here is real, and this is the type of race where the best horse just wins.

place2LiltonytwophonesML 3/1

Liltonytwophones represents genuine competition at 3/1 with an 81.25 rating and that same top-tier average speed of 55. Trainer Manuel Vlaun has Chelsey Keiser in the irons, and while the career win rate is a modest 9%, the underlying speed numbers suggest she belongs here. She's the logical key to the exacta underneath Big Prankster.

show1ErlanML 6/1

Erlan draws post 1 with Alexander Chavez for trainer Shane Meyers and owns a respectable 21% career win rate in his career. His 58.83 rating is well behind the top two, but at 6/1 he offers some show value as the most experienced horse in terms of win percentage outside the top pair. If there's any pace meltdown up front, Erlan could be there to pick up the pieces.

Our three free previews cover Races 1, 2, and 3 — a nice cross-section of sprint and route action to kick off the afternoon. Feeling Easy gets us started in the opener, a 6-furlong claiming sprint where she draws our top rating. In Race 2, Wicca Wisdom stretches out to a mile and matches that same rating on a card where we think pace setups will be especially important. Then in Race 3, keep a close eye on Big Prankster — that 89.71 TrackWiz rating is the highest of the free races and the morning line has him as a sharp 6/5 favorite for a reason.

With the dirt playing consistent today, horses that can get position early and rate off the pace look well-positioned across all three of these contests. The free picks are a strong starting point — but the real value builds as the card progresses.
