Monmouth Park Picks & Predictions — August 2, 2026
A summer Sunday at Monmouth Park — partly cloudy skies, 81 degrees, and what looks like a turf-friendly afternoon on the Jersey Shore. Eight races are on the board today, and with three of them run on the grass, the turf form is going to be doing a lot of the heavy lifting in your card work.
The card is a solid mix of maiden claimers, open claimers, starter allowances, and allowance optional claiming events — the bread and butter of a mid-summer weekday card. Nothing Grade 1, but the value angles are plentiful if you know where to look. Lumber Legacy tops the TrackWiz ratings at 89.12 — a healthy margin over the rest of the field — and draws post 3 with Chantal Sutherland in the irons, a rider who knows how to rate a horse on the turf. At 8/5 on the morning line, the market agrees this one is the class of the field. The slightly below-average speed figure of 51 is worth watching, but the overall profile points toward a horse ready to break through at first asking on this surface.
It's the Stones rates second in the TrackWiz model at 80.44 and comes in at a reasonable 7/2 morning line under trainer Kelly J. Breen, who knows how to place horses in spots they can succeed. The average speed figure of 52 matches the pace pack, and Jose Antonio Gomez is a capable hand to navigate a maiden turf field. This one looks like a solid underneath piece for exactas and trifectas.
Gaborone grades out third in our ratings at 66.98 and posts the same average speed figure of 52 as several rivals — but at 4/1, there's value in the win pool and certainly in the exotics. Trainer Jose Lozano Sanchez keeps this one competitive enough to factor, and Edwin Gonzalez riding adds some upside. A sneaky trifecta play if the top two run as expected.
Race 2
Maiden Special Weight · 6 fur · Dirt
A short six-furlong maiden special weight on the dirt where Liam's Diva looms as a commanding standout on ratings, but the pace could play into the hands of a presser or closer if the early speed crumbles.
Liam's Diva posts a TrackWiz rating of 87.08 — nearly 28 points clear of the next-best horse in this maiden special weight sprint, which is a dominant gap in any field. Edwin Gonzalez rides for trainer Miguel Clement, a barn that clearly has this one ready to fire. At 3/1 on the morning line, there's still fair value here for a horse that towers over the competition on our model.
Tremendous Bee is the morning line favorite at 3/2 and shows an average speed figure of 54 — tied for best in the field — under the care of trainer Miguel Clement, meaning the same barn saddles both the top pick and this one. Ruben Silvera takes the mount and the rating of 59.17 suggests this horse is a genuine contender to hit the board even if Liam's Diva runs away with it. An important exacta partner.
Munnorlia checks in third on the TrackWiz ratings at 54.17 and is one of two horses in the field without a recorded average speed figure — suggesting limited prior data, which makes her somewhat of a wildcard. Trainer Teresa M. Pompay also saddles Redacting in this race, giving the barn two bites at the apple. Christian Maragh is a reliable jockey, and at 9/2, Munnorlia fits nicely as a show or trifecta play in a field where the back end is wide open.

A turf claiming sprint where Gold Stamp holds a clear edge on ratings, but Dale's Bluff's eye-popping 25% career win rate and the top average speed figure in the field make this more than a one-horse race.
Gold Stamp leads the TrackWiz ratings at 87.81 and draws in at a fair 5/2 morning line with Edwin Gonzalez aboard — one of the more active jockeys on the Monmouth circuit. The average speed figure of 54 is solid, and an 11% career win rate is respectable in a claiming field. Trainer Michael Dini also sends out She's Complicated in this race, but Gold Stamp is clearly the barn's best shot.
Lady d'Oro rates second in our model at 79.99 and posts the highest average speed figure among our top three at 55 — she's run fast enough to beat this field on raw numbers. Charlie Marquez picks up the mount for trainer Michael V. Pino, and a 14% career win rate shows she's been competitive throughout her career. At 7/2, she's a natural place and exacta partner with our top pick.
Sliver of Sunshine grades out at 59.0 on the TrackWiz scale with an average speed figure of 54 and a 14% career win rate — a horse that wins its share and has the foot to stay involved in a short turf sprint. Trainer Kathleen A. Demasi has Andrew Wolfsont aboard, and the 9/2 morning line suggests the market respects this one's chances. A solid show bet and a worthwhile trifecta inclusion.
The free portion of today's card kicks off on the turf and stays interesting throughout. Lumber Legacy opens the day in a 1 1/16-mile maiden claimer on the grass — a distance that should suit horses with tactical pace and the ability to quicken in the stretch. At 8/5 on the morning line, the public agrees, but our rating of 89.12 backs that confidence up with data, not just crowd sentiment.
From there, Liam's Diva takes on a 6-furlong maiden special weight on the dirt — the kind of race where early speed and clean trips matter most.
