Fort Erie Picks & Predictions — October 12, 2026

6 racesAll Fort Erie picks

Fort Erie is running a 6-race card on Monday, October 12, and conditions are about as cooperative as you could ask for this deep into the fall meet — partly cloudy skies, 66°F, and firm ground underfoot. That's good news for the two turf legs on today's card, which are already carrying plenty of intrigue.

The afternoon splits pretty cleanly: three dirt sprints, two turf routes-ish, and a maiden claimer to cap things off. No marquee stakes on the board, but that's exactly where sharp handicappers find value — in the claiming trenches, where pace scenarios and trainer patterns matter more than reputation.

Our TrackWiz ratings produced some confident top picks today, with three races cleared for free analysis and three more available to subscribers. Let's set the table.

Best Bets

Race 1

Maiden Claiming · 7 fur · Turf

A wide-open maiden claimer on the turf where TrackWiz ratings create a clear top two, but the morning line tells a different story — the favorite by the numbers isn't the morning-line favorite.

win6WhiskytangodiscoML 2/1

Whiskytangodisco is the standout in this field by a comfortable margin, posting a TrackWiz rating of 88.54 — more than 12 points clear of the next closest horse. Pierre Mailhot gets the call, and going 7 furlongs on turf suits a horse that projects to have enough stamina to pick up tiring rivals late. Trainer S. Tony Bennett puts this one at 2/1 on the morning line, suggesting connections are confident. In a maiden field where nobody has broken their maiden yet, the highest-rated horse at odds that still offer value is exactly where we want to be.

place2Rose for CarrickML 3/1

Rose for Carrick checks in as our place pick with a solid rating of 76.03 and the morning-line favoritism at 3/1, which signals respect from the oddsmakers. Trainer Julie Mathes and jockey Kirk Johnson is a pairing worth noting in a spot like this. The question is whether Rose for Carrick can sustain that effort over 7 furlongs on turf — but the profile fits well enough to land a piece.

show4Pelee IslandML 7/2

Pelee Island at 7/2 on the morning line has a respectable TrackWiz rating of 66.26, putting her solidly in the middle of this field. Juan Crawford in the irons is a competent booking, and at those odds there's enough value to include this one underneath in exactas and trifectas. In a maiden turf sprint, pace can get messy, and Pelee Island's profile suggests she'll be in a good position to grab a share.

Race 2

Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt

Two heavy hitters at the top of the TrackWiz ratings make this a match race on paper, but the morning line flips the script — our top-rated horse is NOT the chalk, creating an interesting value angle.

win4Half to ReloadML 5/2

Half to Reload edges the field with a TrackWiz rating of 87.81, which is the highest in the race, and at 5/2 on the morning line there's still genuine value here. A career win rate of 18% tells us this horse knows how to finish the job, and the average speed figure of 56 matches pace-setter Shakoo Makoo stride for stride. Trainer Michael J. Blake and jockey Helen Marie Vanek team up in what looks like a well-spotted effort over 6 furlongs of dirt — a surface and distance where a horse sitting just off the pace can pounce.

place1Shakoo MakooML 8/5

Shakoo Makoo is the morning-line chalk at 8/5 and sports a career win rate of 32% — by far the highest in this field — which tells you this horse competes hard and converts. The TrackWiz rating of 85.66 is nearly as strong as our win pick, and jockey Jeffrey Ian Alderson is in the irons for trainer Anthony J. Alderson, a barn he knows well. Even if Shakoo Makoo gets edged for the win, that win percentage screams 'will hit the board.'

show5Forest FlashML 3/1

Forest Flash at 3/1 is a sneaky solid play for the show spot, carrying a TrackWiz rating of 69.78 and a career win rate of 17%. Trainer Jeff Voyce and jockey Sofia Vives round out a horse that's competitive enough in this claiming field to routinely hit the board. In a race with two heavy hitters dueling at the top, a stalker with a decent speed figure of 55 is well-positioned to pick up the pieces.

Race 3

Claiming · 5 1/2 fur · Dirt

Trainer Steven Cathcart saddles two of the top three horses in this 5½-furlong dirt claimer, which could create an interesting pace scenario — and our top pick from that barn is a clear class standout by the numbers.

win2MaritudeML 9/5

Maritude is a convincing top selection here with a TrackWiz rating of 88.83 — the highest in the field by a significant margin — and the morning line of 9/5 reflects that. Cathcart trains this one and also saddles Fredericka's Rose, so the connections are loaded in this race. Jockey Juan Crawford gets the nod on the top selection, and with an average speed figure of 53 over 5½ furlongs of dirt, Maritude figures to be rolling at the right time.

place4Noyzee GirlML 8/1

Noyzee Girl is an interesting value play at 8/1 on the morning line, despite posting a TrackWiz rating of 71.12 — actually the second-highest in the field. The average speed figure of 54 is the best in the race, suggesting Noyzee Girl generates legitimate raw speed. Trainer Roy George Agostino and jockey Brian A. Cheyne are at a longshot price that doesn't reflect the underlying numbers — this one fits well as a value underneath play.

show3Fredericka's RoseML 4/1

Fredericka's Rose rounds out the Cathcart barn entry at 4/1 on the morning line, and with a career win rate of 11% and a TrackWiz rating of 70.96, she's got enough going for her to stick around for a piece. Alexis Sanchez takes the mount, and being stablemates with the win pick means connections will likely have a clear role for this one in the pace. Include her in trifecta coverage.

The first three races are open to everyone, and they give us a solid cross-section of the card. We open on the turf with Whiskytangodisco in the 7-furlong maiden claimer — an 88.54 TrackWiz rating at 2/1 morning line makes this one of the stronger pace-to-figure horses on the card. Then we shift to the dirt, where Half to Reload (87.81, 5/2) and Maritude (88.83, 9/5) both profile as short-priced plays in their respective claiming sprints. Maritude's rating is actually the highest of the three free races — at 9/5 the value is thin, but the TrackWiz model is pointing hard in that direction.

One thing to watch across all three races: the partly cloudy, mid-60s weather keeps the turf from softening and the dirt from getting cuppy. A fair, consistent surface typically rewards horses with legitimate speed figures over closers hoping for a lone front-runner to collapse. Keep that in mind when assessing pace in Races 1 and 2.
