Delaware Park Picks & Predictions — October 14, 2026
It's a pleasant October Wednesday at Delaware Park — partly cloudy skies, 80 degrees, and a firm dirt surface that should play fast all afternoon. Eight races are on the slate, all on the main track, which means pace scenarios and early speed are going to be front and center in nearly every single race today.
This is a workmanlike mid-week card, heavy on maiden claiming and starter-level company, but don't let that fool you — there's plenty of money to be made when the fields are beatable and the prices are right. Our TrackWiz models found a handful of overlays worth targeting, including a couple of spots where the morning line feels way off.
Three races are free for all readers today. The full card — including our pace projections, exotic tickets, and multi-race sequence breakdowns — is available to TrackWiz subscribers.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
A maiden claimer where the morning-line favorite is NOT our top pick — TrackWiz's model has uncovered a standout above the 6/1 noise, setting up a potential overlay situation in the opener.
Maxie's Munny is the clear top-rated horse in this field with a TrackWiz rating of 82.71 — a significant gap over the morning-line favorite Katz On Fire (58.67). She's posted an average speed figure of 54, matching the best in the field, and trainer Daniel G. Eubanks sends her out with Julio A. Hernandez in the irons. At 6/1 on the morning line while topping the model, this is exactly the kind of overlay spot that pays off in maiden claiming openers.
Katz On Fire draws the most public support in the race at 9/5 odds and earns that respect with a 58.67 rating and a 54 average speed figure. Trainer Gary Capuano is a consistent presence at Delaware Park, and Emanuel Rosario is a sharp tactical rider who can place horses perfectly in 6-furlong dirt sprints. If Maxie's Munny misses, Katz On Fire looks like the likeliest consolation.
Fashion Girl opens at 7/2 and carries a 55.83 TrackWiz rating — third-best in the field — with the added benefit of top-notch guidance from Hall of Fame-level jockey Paco Lopez. Lopez's experience in maiden races gives greener horses a meaningful edge, and at 7/2, she fits comfortably in trifecta construction as a reliable underneath piece.
Race 2
Starter Optional Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
The public will key on the morning-line chalk, but this Starter Optional Claiming sprint has a pair of horses primed to upset the party, led by our top-rated selection who goes off at a playable price.
Nazeer sits at the top of our model with an 87.08 TrackWiz rating, the highest mark in this field by more than 20 points. Trainer Gregory D. Sacco puts him in the hands of Paco Lopez — a rider who knows how to engineer wins in spots exactly like this — and his 25% career win rate shows he's no stranger to the winner's circle. At 3/1 on the morning line with the best number in the race, Nazeer is our clear top selection.
X G Man is the value piece here at 6/1 — his 65.64 TrackWiz rating is third in the field and he carries a 55 average speed figure, the second-highest among horses with recent form. Jeiron Barbosa is a capable handler for trainer A. Ferris Allen III, and at morning-line odds that reflect some public skepticism, X G Man looks like a legitimate place play for trifecta bettors looking to stretch their tickets.
U Better Kiss Me draws the most public support at 2/1, but our model has her ranked third at 58.33 — a slight disconnect worth noting. She's shown a 54 average speed figure in prior efforts, which is competitive for this level, and Nesvil Hernan Bailon has her sharp. She's a solid show candidate for conservative bettors who want the chart's most-backed horse in the bottom of their exotics.
Race 3
Maiden Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
Sound Check enters as the model's runaway top-rated horse while being laid the public favorite — a rare alignment of model confidence and market agreement that makes this race feel more defined than the typical maiden affair.
Sound Check is the easy top selection here, posting a 88.54 TrackWiz rating — nearly 30 points clear of the next competitor. Trainer Michael E. Gorham sends him out with Jaime Rodriguez, and his 53 average speed figure is in line with what a competitive 6-furlong maiden needs to produce. The 2/1 morning line is honest money, and this is one of those spots where our model and the oddsmakers are telling the same story.
Vekoma Moon opens as the second public choice at 3/2 despite not having an average speed figure on record — meaning this is likely a first-out runner or one with limited public form. Gary Capuano is a trainer who delivers well-prepped firsters, and Emanuel Rosario is the kind of jockey who gets the most out of horses in their debut efforts. A 59.17 TrackWiz rating puts him second in the field, making him the logical underneath horse.
El Woodsie checks in at 51.67 on the TrackWiz model and brings a 53 average speed figure into a race where several horses have no speed marks at all. Trainer Kelly J. Breen knows how to spot horses in maiden claimers at the right time, and Paco Lopez aboard is never a throwaway — especially in a race where the favorites could go wide or break slowly. At 6/1, he's a useful show play in trifectas.
Our three free races today are all six-furlong sprints on the dirt, which is about as straightforward a surface-and-distance combo as you'll find at Delaware. In Race 1, Maxie's Munny opens at 6/1 in maiden claiming company — that's a number we think the market will move, so get there early if you like the price. Race 2 brings Nazeer into a Starter Optional Claiming spot at 3/1 on the morning line, where our rating of 87.08 suggests he's the class of the field. Race 3 features Sound Check as our top-rated free pick of the afternoon (88.54) at a juicy 2/1 — he projects as a legitimate win single in maiden claiming sprints.
The common thread through the free races: early pace looks contested in at least two of them, which could benefit horses with the tactical speed to sit just off the lead. Watch the break closely — on a fast Delaware dirt track on a warm fall afternoon, the first call often tells the whole story.
