Conditions look good for a fast, consistent dirt track, which means speed figures should travel well and pace scenarios are worth paying close attention to today.
Eight races, all on the dirt, ranging from five and a half furlongs up to a flat mile — and the card mixes maiden claimers, straight claimers, and an allowance optional claiming race that gives us our most compelling full-field clash of the afternoon. Classic Ballad is the morning line favorite at 2/1 and posts a TrackWiz rating of 77.55, sitting just behind Tortuga Island in our rankings. Trainer Michael V. Simone also saddles Blue Fashion in this race, which suggests stable confidence is split — but Jaime Rodriguez's presence in the irons on Classic Ballad may indicate who gets first call. With an average speed figure of 51 across the field, there's no blowout speed advantage for anyone, making Classic Ballad's overall profile a safe place ticket.
Blue Fashion comes in as a sneaky show play at 8/1 despite carrying the second-highest TrackWiz rating in the race at 77.18 — effectively tied with Classic Ballad at the top of the Simone barn's entries. The 8/1 morning line likely reflects the public's preference for the stablemate, but a 12% career win rate in claiming company tells you this horse finds the wire more than the odds suggest. Worth including in your exactas and trifectas as a live third wheel.
Race 2

Maiden claimers going 5 1/2 furlongs on dirt — a short, sharp sprint where pace pressure will be immediate and the morning line favorite may be vulnerable to a big-priced surprise.
It's the Law Baby absolutely jumps off the page here with a TrackWiz rating of 76.88 — nearly 20 points clear of the next-best horse in the field — despite going off at 10/1 on the morning line. That's a massive disconnect between our model and the public's opinion, and those gaps are exactly where TrackWiz analysis finds its edge. Trainer Jesus Rodriguez sends Jose A. Batista aboard, and the horse has shown an average speed figure of 53, matching the top figures in this maiden claiming field. In a race where no horse has ever won, ratings separation like this is as reliable a signal as you'll find.
Think Pink is the morning line favorite at 2/1 and backs it up with a 58.33 TrackWiz rating and an average speed figure of 53, tying the field's top figure alongside the win pick. Trainer Michael R. Matz is a respected conditioner who knows how to spot his horses well, and Julio A. Hernandez gets the call. At the short price, the place payoff may be modest, but Think Pink offers the safety of a top-speed runner who figures to be competitive late in a 5.5-furlong dash.
Bourbon N Music at 3/1 is a logical show inclusion — a 56.67 TrackWiz rating slots this one solidly in the middle tier of the field, and trainer Anthony Pecoraro is a live presence at Delaware Park. The 52 average speed figure is respectable for maiden claiming company at this distance. At morning line odds of 3/1, the show price should be worth playing in the exacta/trifecta box.
Race 3

Temecula looms as a heavy favorite here, but the pace scenario could get complicated with several horses that can apply early pressure — the question is whether the chalk can handle a contested early pace going a mile.
Temecula carries a dominant TrackWiz rating of 89.12 — the highest figure in the field by more than 11 points — and the morning line reflects that dominance at 8/5. An average speed figure of 54 leads the field, and trainer Christopher T. Shaw sends out Joshua J. Radosevich, a jockey familiar with the Delaware surface. At 14% career win rate, Temecula isn't a machine, but the combination of elite speed and top model rating makes this the most clear-cut selection of the early card.
La Houligan comes in as the second choice at 2/1 with a 77.5 TrackWiz rating and a 53 average speed figure, pairing nicely with trainer Greg Compton who puts Vincent Cheminaud up — a seasoned jockey who knows how to rate a horse over a route of ground. The 13% career win rate is modest but this horse's profile says it runs hard, and going a mile against claiming horses, it figures to be in the mix from the top of the stretch. A solid place ticket to go alongside Temecula.
Ice Shot checks in at 6/1 on the morning line with a respectable 77.19 TrackWiz rating and a 22% career win rate that stands as one of the better conversion marks in the field. Trainer Blake Kelly sends Teshawn Hazelwood aboard, and the 52 average speed figure is competitive enough for a claiming mile. At that morning line price, Ice Shot offers real show value and deserves to be part of any trifecta construction in this race.
