Love a Warrior is the best bet among today's free races — a 4/5 morning-line favorite in Race 3's 5-furlong turf Maiden Special Weight who our simulations have winning nearly 44% of the time, backed by a jockey who's hit the board in 49% of starts over the past year. That kind of combination of raw speed and in-saddle consistency is hard to ignore.
Conditions at Churchill Downs this Sunday are comfortable — cloudy skies and 65°F, the kind of mild fall afternoon that keeps the turf course playing true and the dirt surface consistent. Nine races are on the menu, three of them free to all TrackWiz readers, with six premium races rounding out the full card.
The card has a nice mix of maiden events on both turf and dirt, a pair of claimers at route distances, and an allowance sprint in Race 8 that shapes up as one of the deeper contests of the day. Plenty of angles to dig into.

Maiden Claiming · 5 fur · Dirt
A wide-open maiden claimer with an all-unproven field and no clear pace picture — expect this five-furlong dash to sort itself out in real time, with the top three TrackWiz ratings separated by only about seven points.
Down Time tops the TrackWiz ratings at 58.33 and owns the top ranking in our simulation, winning 20.83% of 10,000 runs — the highest mark in the field. The workout line is encouraging too: second-best among the field in the last month at 11.95 seconds per furlong. Trainer Randy Morse is graded B- and jockey Abel Cedillo holds down the assignment, though Cedillo grades out at C. There are no career figures to hang your hat on since this is a debut situation, but the workout profile and top rating make Down Time the most defensible win single here.
Soap Note sits second in the ratings at 56.67 and posted the best recent race speed in the field at 12.54 seconds per furlong — a concrete positive when the rest of this maiden field is largely unproven. Trainer Dallas Stewart (B-) and jockey Mario Gutierrez (C+) are a respectable pairing, though the workout rank is a concern — dead last in the field at 12.60 sec/furlong over the last month. Soap Note's recent race speed is the stand-out angle here, making it a reasonable place horse even if the connections are mid-grade.
Midnight Commander rates third in the field at 55.0 and brings the third-best workout figure of the past month at 12.00 seconds per furlong — meaningful in a debut field where workouts are among the few real data points. Trainer Chris Hartman grades out at a strong A-, the best trainer grade in the top four, which is a quiet angle worth noting. The morning line of 4/1 feels fair, and the combination of solid workouts and a sharp barn makes Commander a reasonable show option in an unpredictable opener.

Bottom line: Love a Warrior in Race 3 is the day's marquee free play, Gardiner in Race 7 is the Churchill specialist you want on your ticket, and Kaykay in Race 8 is the premium race to watch. Good luck at the windows — and remember, even the most confident plays need a little racing luck to come home. Full analysis for subscribers at /pricing.
