Belmont Park Picks & Predictions — October 8, 2026
It's a warm October Thursday at Belmont Park — partly cloudy skies and 87°F at post time, which means the turf course should be playing fast and the dirt will be dry and compact. Nine races are on the slate, and the card has a nice split of surfaces with four turf routes and five dirt tests, giving handicappers plenty of angles to work.
What makes today interesting is the contrast in race types. You've got a pair of maiden special weights to open the card, a couple of allowance spots in the middle rounds, and a sprint closer on the main track in Race 8 that should draw some serious pace. Whether you're here to grind the full card or just looking for a few sharp plays, there's something to dig into on every level.
Three races are fully open to all TrackWiz readers today, and our top picks across those free races include a 6/1 morning-line shot on the turf that our model genuinely likes. Don't sleep on that one.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Special Weight · 1 mi · Dirt
A maiden special weight mile on the dirt where two Chad Brown shooters and a morning-line favorite create a tight triangle at the top — this one figures to be competitive from the jump.
Moonlit tops our TrackWiz ratings at 86.88 and draws the morning-line favoritism at 2/1, which tells you the market agrees. Samuel Marin gets the call and has been sharp around here lately. In a field of first-timers and lightly raced maidens, Moonlit's rating edge over the rest of the field is meaningful, and that 2/1 price should hold as the public key.
Noble Glow gives the Chad Brown barn a two-pronged attack, and having Flavien Prat in the irons is never a throwaway. Her TrackWiz rating of 86.35 sits just a whisker behind the top pick, making her an ideal place horse — Brown regularly fires with multiple starters in the same race and both deserve respect.
Hedge Book rounds out the Brown trio and carries an 83.75 rating with Manuel Franco up — one of the most reliable combinations at Belmont. At 3/1 on the morning line, he's not a big price, but his rating and rider give him enough floor to anchor the show slot in exotics.
Race 2
Maiden Special Weight · 1 1/8 mi · Turf
A wide-open turf maiden at 1 1/8 miles where the morning-line favorite doesn't match up well with our top-rated horses, setting the stage for some genuine value plays.
Ollie Luke Out rates out as our top pick at 66.89 — the highest score in the field — despite going off at 6/1 on the morning line. Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. knows how to spot a horse into a race, and Dylan Davis is a capable hand to get the best out of him. The disconnect between his rating and his odds makes him our best value on the grass.
Languid is a bonafide longshot angle at 20/1 morning line, but our TrackWiz model has her second in the field at 62.29. Jose Lezcano gives her a live rider, and for a horse this far down the morning line, the rating-to-odds gap is eye-opening. She's the kind of price that can turn an exacta into a windfall.
Pay the Piper draws the morning-line favoritism at 5/2 with Chad Brown training and Flavien Prat aboard — a connection that demands respect on any turf course. Her rating of 58.36 puts her third in the field, and while our model doesn't love her as a win pick, she's got enough class backing to hit the board consistently.
Race 3
Starter Allowance · 1 1/16 mi · Dirt
A starter allowance on the dirt going 1 1/16 miles where a Chad Brown runner with a strong career win percentage looms as the class of the field, but the pace figures to be honest with several speed-types in the gate.
Nuanced scores highest in our TrackWiz model at 85.62 and brings a 25% career win rate into this spot — among the best in the field. Manuel Franco takes the mount for Chad Brown, a combination that fires at a high clip, and the average speed figure of 54 is right there with the better horses in the race. At 4/1, this is a legitimate best-bet price for a horse with real class.
Ez Roll is the morning-line second choice at 5/2 and rates out second in the field at 77.14, making him a logical place partner with Nuanced. Dylan Davis rides for Raymond Handal, and a 16% career win rate shows this horse has figured out the winner's circle before. He profiles as a steady closer who benefits if the pace gets honest up front.
Sidearm posts the top average speed figure in the field at 55 — faster than anyone else in this race — and rates at 73.30 for Kendrick Carmouche and trainer Edward Barker. A 14% career win rate is modest but workmanlike, and that raw speed number suggests he can grind out a piece of this if he gets a good trip from the inside.
The first three races on today's card are free for every TrackWiz reader, and they cover three different race conditions — a maiden special weight on dirt, a maiden special weight on turf, and a starter allowance back on the dirt. That range gives us a nice early read on how both surfaces are playing today, which is valuable intelligence heading into the premium races later in the card.
Moonlit opens the afternoon as the 2/1 morning-line favorite in Race 1 and tops our model at an 86.88 rating — a solid number for a maiden event. On the grass in Race 2, Ollie Luke Out is our pick at 6/1 on the morning line, and that's the kind of price that gets our attention in a field where the favorite may be vulnerable. Nuanced rounds out the free card in Race 3's starter allowance, grading out at 85.62 in a race where class positioning will be the key story. Watch how the dirt is playing in Races 1 and 3 — if speed is holding, that's a real edge going forward into the back half of the card.
