Happy summer solstice from Arapahoe Park. The longest day of the year brings us a seven-race all-dirt card under partly cloudy skies and a warm 85°F — conditions that should keep the track consistent and speed figures reliable all afternoon. No rain in the picture, so whatever shape the surface is in at first post, it should hold that way wire to wire.
The card is a nice mix — a pair of Starter Optional Claimers bookending a straight Claiming race in the early going, then two Allowance spots in the middle of the card where the better horses come out to play, before we close out with a Claiming race and a Maiden Claimer. Rusty Cage tops our ratings at 87.81 — the highest mark in this field — and trainer Kayla Warren sends this one out at a fair 5/2 morning line. That rating edge over the rest of the field is meaningful in a short 4.5-furlong dash where there's little room to recover from a slow start. Jockey Larren Delorme has the call, and in a race this compact, putting the top-rated horse on top is the right play.
Top of the Rock is the morning-line favorite at 3/2 for a reason — an 82.52 TrackWiz rating and a 19% career win rate give Nathan Haar a live mount. David Cardoso gets the mount, and trainer Mark Hibdon is well-represented on the card today. A 18% career win rate adds to the profile, and in a five-and-a-half-furlong dirt sprint, a horse that scores this high in our model deserves top billing.
So Thrilling at 5/2 is the second-best rated horse in the field at 78.77, and Adrian B. Ramos gives this one a strong jockey. A 16% career win rate is solid, and trainer Trevor Rushton keeps a stable presence throughout today's card. If Freckles Forever draws attention early, So Thrilling figures to be sitting a clean trip and hitting the board.
