Woodbine Picks & Predictions — October 10, 2026

11 racesAll Woodbine picks

It's a crisp autumn Saturday at Woodbine — 61°F under partly cloudy skies — and the Thoroughbreds are putting on a show. Eleven races are on the board today, spread across both dirt and turf, and the card has genuine teeth from the jump. This is exactly the kind of late-season card where horses are peaking and trainers are making their moves before the meet winds down.

Three stakes races give today's card real weight, and our TrackWiz models have been running hard on this one. The turf is in play for three of the eleven races, which matters in October at Woodbine — the ground tends to ride on the firm side of good this time of year, and that favors horses with a turn of foot over grinders. Keep that in the back of your mind all day.

Best Bets

Race 1

Maiden Claiming · 1 1/16 mi · Dirt

A maiden claimer on the dirt where two horses carry significantly higher TrackWiz ratings than the field — but they're both favorites, setting up a potential key race between the 3 and the 6 with modest overlay opportunities underneath.

win3Rideau FallsML 8/5

Rideau Falls draws our top rating in the field at 89.12 and comes in as the 8/5 morning line choice under Pietro Moran, a capable rider who knows how to handle pace on the Woodbine dirt. The average speed figure of 52 is right in line with this group, and trainer Michael Wright, Jr. has put this one in a spot where the class ceiling looks highest. In a field of first-time or lightly experienced maidens, that edge in our rating model is meaningful — Rideau Falls sets the standard everyone else has to beat.

place6ChocolatecroissantML 7/5

Chocolatecroissant is the lukewarm favorite at 7/5 with a rating of 85.89, posting the same average speed figure as Rideau Falls (52) and sending out a legitimate threat from post 6. Trainer Kevin Attard is one of the sharper conditioners at Woodbine and doesn't run horses without a plan — a 7/5 chalk in a maiden claimer from this barn deserves respect. If Rideau Falls hits any trouble in traffic, Chocolatecroissant has the profile to swoop.

show1FlightmareML 6/1

Flightmare at 6/1 (morning line) is the most intriguing underneath play in the race, carrying a solid 68.6 TrackWiz rating that places third in the field behind only the two favorites. Trainer Scott H. Fairlie spots horses well, and with Corry Beland up, this one lands in a comfortable stalking position from the rail. At a price, Flightmare gives you show value in a race where the rest of the field falls off sharply below a 43 rating.

Race 2

Claiming · 7 1/2 fur · Turf

This 7½-furlong turf claimer features a clear class hierarchy — Loveumissumeanit leads on both rating and career win percentage — but Catch the Drift lurks as a sneaky overlay who could complicate things late.

win2LoveumissumeanitML 9/5

Loveumissumeanit checks every box here: the field's top TrackWiz rating at 88.42, the highest career win percentage in the race at 35%, and a best average speed figure of 54 — a full tick faster than most of the field. The 9/5 morning line reflects the market's confidence, and trainer Devon Gittens sends this one out with Juan Crawford in the irons — a combination that knows how to navigate turf routing. When one horse leads on ratings, speed, and win percentage, it's hard to argue against making them the anchor.

place5Purrfect GirlML 5/2

Purrfect Girl (5/2) is the second choice on the board and backs it up with a 26% career win rate and a 53 average speed figure that matches the middle tier of this field. Pietro Moran pilots her for trainer Michael Wright, Jr., and this duo has shown the ability to get horses into the right rhythm on Woodbine turf. She fits as a natural bridesmaid if Loveumissumeanit gets first run and doesn't look back.

show7Catch the DriftML 8/1

Catch the Drift is the value piece of the puzzle here at 8/1 on the morning line, posting a 79.79 rating that makes her the third-best horse in the field by our model — and she's being completely overlooked by the market. Her career win percentage of 13% isn't flashy, but on a surface like turf, closer types who rate off a pace can spike unexpectedly. Trainer Dale A. Desruisseaux puts her in at a juicy number, and at 8/1 she's worth threading into exactas and trifectas.

Race 3

Stakes · 6 1/2 fur · Dirt

Stakes company at 6½ furlongs on the dirt, and our top-rated horse is actually the morning-line overlay — My Covenant at 6/1 leads the TrackWiz ratings while the market has gone to Reb Five and Z Z's.

win3My CovenantML 6/1

My Covenant is our top-rated horse in this stakes at 82.71 — but she's sitting at 6/1 on the morning line while horses with lower ratings are drawing shorter prices. Trainer Audrey Cheung and jockey Pietro Moran pair up nicely, and My Covenant's 33% career win rate in stakes company shows this horse knows how to close out a race. The speed figure average of 55 is tied for second-best in the field, and at 6½ furlongs on dirt, she should be able to track the speed and pounce in the stretch — a genuine value play at this price.

place5Reb FiveML 2/1

Reb Five is the 2/1 morning-line favorite and sports the highest average speed figure in the field at 57, which is a meaningful edge at this sprint distance. Trainer Mark E. Casse is one of the most successful conditioners in Canada, and a 37% career win rate gives Reb Five a legitimate claim to the top. Our rating has her a tier below My Covenant at 55.25, but the raw speed figures suggest she'll be tough to shake early — and favorites from the Casse barn rarely run flat.

show4Z Z'sML 5/2

Z Z's gets Hall of Fame rider Emma-Jayne Wilson in the irons and brings a 40% career win rate that ranks second in this field — only Highwaytothemoon is higher at 44%. The 56 average speed figure is tied for best in the race, and trainer Josie Carroll runs a tight operation at Woodbine. She's third in our ratings at 52.68, which is genuinely competitive in a five-horse stakes — threading her into the show spot of trifecta tickets is the right move.

We're giving every reader a look at the first three races to kick things off. In Race 1, Rideau Falls opens as the 8/5 morning-line favorite in a maiden claiming route on the dirt, and our rating of 89.12 backs up that favoritism — this is a horse we feel good about. Race 2 flips to the turf for a 7½-furlong claiming test, and Loveumissumeanit at 9/5 is our top call, another strong number at 88.42. Then Race 3 is where it gets spicy — a 6½-furlong dirt stakes where My Covenant opens at a juicy 6/1 on the morning line despite posting a TrackWiz rating of 82.71. That kind of price on a horse we genuinely like is where value plays are born.

The common thread across these three free previews is pace. All three races set up with contested early fractions, which tends to reward horses sitting just off the lead — a pattern we've been tracking at Woodbine this fall. My Covenant in Race 3 fits that mold perfectly, and at 6/1, the risk-reward is hard to ignore.
