Saffie A. Joseph, Jr. sends out two horses in this race, and Slow Kara draws the nod as his stronger contender by the numbers. Tyler Gaffalione is one of the sharpest riders in the country when it comes to getting debut maidens into position, and the one-mile distance should suit a horse with stamina in her profile. If she hits the board at this price, the return is excellent.
Wedelia is the 7/5 second choice on the morning line and posts a solid 59.33 rating, backed by an average speed figure of 53. Brad H. Cox is one of the premier trainers in the country with debut runners, and having Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the irons gives this filly a significant advantage in terms of tactical positioning in a first-time starter's race.
Maria Louise is the morning-line favorite at 9/5 for the powerful Todd Pletcher barn, and John R. Velazquez is a hall-of-fame pilot who knows how to get first-time starters relaxed on the front end. Her 58.67 TrackWiz rating is the third-best in the field, and while she doesn't carry a published speed figure, Pletcher's workout patterns at Saratoga often precede sharp debut performances.

Abrigado opens as a heavy even-money favorite in this maiden claimer, but two double-digit longshots carry surprisingly strong TrackWiz ratings that could make the exotics very interesting.
Abrigado dominates this field with a 90.0 TrackWiz rating — the only horse in this six-furlong sprint with a score in that tier — and Brad H. Cox is one of the hottest trainers in the country. Irad Ortiz, Jr. aboard at even money signals connections expect a dominant effort, and an average speed figure of 55 ties for the top mark in the field alongside Draft Riots. At even money, you're not getting value to win, but this horse is the clear logical top choice.
Here's where the exotics get interesting: Lough Currane carries a 68.31 TrackWiz rating — second-best in the field — yet opens at 15/1 on the morning line, making this one of the best place-value plays on the card. Trainer John P. Terranova II has a habit of placing horses in spots where they're lightly regarded, and an average speed figure of 54 is respectable in this company.
Camino is another longshot who outperforms his 12/1 morning line when you look at the numbers — a 62.66 TrackWiz rating and a 54 average speed figure put him squarely in the conversation for a piece of the pie. Ron Moquett is a trainer who travels his horses to Saratoga with purpose, and Christopher Elliott is a capable pilot who can get a clean trip from post two.

This starter optional claiming sprint features two horses — Sharons Beach and Ramajay — who are separated from the rest of the field by a significant gap in TrackWiz ratings, setting up what looks like a two-horse race for the top prizes.
Sharons Beach earns the top TrackWiz score at 89.12 in a field where the next-best is 85.74, and drawing Irad Ortiz, Jr. at 8/5 is a combination that demands attention. The Jonathan Thomas barn has been placing horses well, and a 55 average speed figure in a six-furlong dirt sprint is right in the pocket for this distance. A 14% career win rate might look modest, but in a starter optional claiming field, pace advantage often matters more than raw percentage.
Ramajay is the natural horse to key underneath at 5/2, carrying an 85.74 rating and a 25% career win rate — the best win percentage among the top contenders in this field. Mr. Hooligan at 8/1 is the show value in this race — a 64.79 rating combined with a 27% career win rate, which is the highest win percentage in the entire field. Jose L. Ortiz aboard for the Kevin Rice barn gives this horse a live rider, and a 56 average speed figure matches Ramajay for pace credentials.
