Remington Park Picks & Predictions — May 23, 2026

11 racesRemington Park

It's a gorgeous afternoon at Remington Park — 77 degrees, partly cloudy, and the kind of weather that keeps the dirt playing fair and fast. Eleven races are on the board today, and from the jump-and-run quarter-horse sprints in the 250-yard dashes to the longer 870-yard tests of stamina, there's a little something for every kind of horseplayer on this card.

The bulk of today's card is maiden and claiming action, which means plenty of horses are still defining their form — and that's where sharp handicapping pays off. A handful of standout ratings from our TrackWiz models have us zeroed in on some confident plays, plus at least one longshot angle worth a look in the allowance closer. Let's break it down.

Best Bets

Race 1

Maiden Claiming · 330 yd · Dirt

A wide-open maiden claiming sprint at 330 yards where TrackWiz ratings separate a clear top three from the rest of the field — but maiden quarter-horse dashes can always produce a first-time surprise.

win7Pt AngelML 5/2

Pt Angel (#7) stands at the top of this field by a wide margin, carrying a TrackWiz rating of 87.81 that towers over every other entrant. Trainer Matt Whitekiller puts Cody Rodger Smith in the irons, a confident booking for a horse the connections clearly believe in. At 5/2 on the morning line, the public is already on board, but that rating gap justifies the favoritism. In a field of first-time starters, this kind of edge in our model is hard to dismiss.

place1Painted SamML 4/1

Painted Sam (#1) draws the rail and earns a respectable 61.02 rating, second-best in the field and a solid 25-plus points clear of the mid-pack. Jockey Angel O. Ramirez gets the call for trainer Edward Ross Hardy, and the 4/1 morning line suggests the market sees value here as a place contender. In short maiden sprints, the rail post can be a real asset if the horse breaks cleanly.

show4Over the TurnpikeML 3/1

Over the Turnpike (#4) checks in at 49.82 in our ratings and draws a 3/1 morning line that makes it a legitimate exotics piece. Trainer Tana Caldwell sends it out with Aram S. Martinez, and at this distance there's very little room for error — a clean break could put this one right in the mix. Solid enough to anchor the bottom of a trifecta.

Race 2

Maiden Claiming · 250 yd · Dirt

The short 250-yard dash in Race 2 puts a premium on gate speed and raw talent — and our ratings show a tightly bunched top half with no massive standout, making this one of the more competitive maiden sprints on the card.

win1Calender GirlML 5/2

Calender Girl (#1) tops the TrackWiz ratings at 57.50 and draws the advantageous inside post for what amounts to a pure speed event. Juan Pulido takes the mount for trainer Kash Reed, and at 5/2 on the morning line she's respected but not heavily overbet. In a 250-yard dash, post position and break quality matter enormously, and the rail gives Calender Girl every opportunity to dictate from the jump.

place4Rsecret ExpressML 4/1

Rsecret Express (#4) sits just behind the top pick at 55.00 and gets trainer Matt Whitekiller's reliable hand with Cody Rodger Smith aboard — the same combo that fields our Race 1 top pick. The 4/1 morning line offers a touch of value for a horse whose rating is within striking distance of the favorite. A clean break and this one could be right there at the wire.

show9Shes So RelentlessML 5/1

Shes So Relentless (#9) rounds out the show pick at 53.33 and draws a 5/1 morning line that's fair given the clustering at the top of this field. Trainer Tyler Stein puts Angel O. Ramirez on board, and the name alone suggests a horse with some competitive fire. Her rating is close enough to the top two that she belongs in any tri or exacta wheel.

Race 3

Maiden Claiming · 300 yd · Dirt

Race 3 at 300 yards features a genuine class standout at the top of the TrackWiz ratings, but the morning-line favorite is a different horse entirely — creating an interesting odds angle for players looking for value over the short sprint.

win1Sm Alys KvnML 5/1

Sm Alys Kvn (#1) owns the top TrackWiz rating in the field at 84.17 and is being sent out at 5/1 by trainer Samuel Mendoza with Juan Pulido up — making this a genuine overlay if the model is right. The morning line actually installed Jess Rowdy as the 2/1 favorite, so there's a real difference of opinion here that sharp bettors should note. In a 300-yard dash, the horse that scores highest in our composite analysis has a strong track record of delivering, and Sm Alys Kvn's edge is nearly 9 points over the next-rated horse.

place8Jess RowdyML 2/1

Jess Rowdy (#8) is the morning-line favorite at 2/1 and owns the second-highest rating in the field at 75.42, so dismissing this horse entirely would be a mistake. Jimmy Dean Brooks gets the call for trainer Eddie D. Willis, a combination worth noting. The case for place over win is simply that our ratings marginally prefer Sm Alys Kvn — but Jess Rowdy has the public's confidence and should be in the exotics regardless.

show6Spirit TacML 6/1

Spirit Tac (#6) checks in at 69.21 — third-best in the field — and offers 6/1 morning-line odds that look appealing for a show ticket or trifecta inclusion. Trainer Luis Villafranco has Brayan Juarez in the saddle, and sitting in the middle of the pack ratings-wise for a field this competitive is actually a strength. Don't overlook this one when building exotics.

Three races are available free to all TrackWiz readers today, and they give us a solid early read on the card. Pt Angel opens things up in Race 1 — an 87.81 TrackWiz rating at 5/2 on the morning line is the kind of number we like to see when the odds aren't too short to get value. Over in Race 2, Calender Girl tops the 250-yard maiden claimer at 5/2, though the lower rating signals a more competitive field where the margins will be razor-thin at that distance. Race 3 gives us Sm Alys Kvn at a juicy 5/1 morning line with an 84-plus rating — a horse priced like a longshot but graded closer to a top contender by our model. That's exactly the kind of overlay you want to target in short-field sprint racing.

The common thread across the free races: these are maiden claimers at tight sprint distances where gate speed is everything. A clean break today on a dry, fast Remington dirt surface could be the difference between a winner and an also-ran.
