Presque Isle Downs Picks & Predictions — October 19, 2026
It's a crisp autumn Monday at Presque Isle Downs — 63°F and clear skies overhead, which means a fast, consistent dirt surface and no excuses for anyone in the post parade. Eight races are on the board today, all on the main track, and the card has a nice mix of maiden action, straight claiming races, and a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming sprints that figure to draw the sharpest horses on the grounds.
The distance split is interesting — four races go a route of 1 mile and 70 yards, and four are sprints at 6 furlongs. That duality creates real opportunities if you're building multi-race tickets, because pace scenarios shift dramatically from the route races to the short stuff. TrackWiz analysis has identified strong top picks across the card, and several of them carry morning lines in the 5/2–7/2 range, suggesting fair value even at first glance.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
A maiden claiming opener where TrackWiz ratings create a clear top tier — but maiden sprints on dirt can be chaotic, and the form lines are thin across the board.
Snookie Jones carries the highest TrackWiz rating in the field by a wide margin at 87.08 — more than 30 points clear of the next-best horse — and opens at a fair 3/1 on the morning line. Trainer Kevin Rice sends her out with Ciera Pruitt in the irons, a workmanlike combo for this level. In a field where every horse is still looking for their first win, that rating gap is hard to ignore. She's our top selection to break the maiden here.
Twirlaway comes in as the morning-line favorite at 5/2 and posts a 55.56 TrackWiz rating — second best in the field. Trainer Scooter Davis knows this circuit well, and Rosario Montanez is a capable pilot for a six-furlong sprint. The modest 54 average speed figure isn't flashy, but it's in line with the competitive set here.
Mi Babe at 9/2 is worth slotting into your exotics as the show piece. She matches Twirlaway's 54 average speed figure and sits third in the rating order at 45.9. Trainer Lawrence Antus keeps her competitive at this level, and in a maiden field with zero career wins across the board, pace chaos could push her into the frame.
Race 2
Claiming · 1 mi 70 yd · Dirt
The morning-line favorite isn't the TrackWiz top pick here — Hits Different draws strong ratings despite modest morning-line odds, while Love Thyself offers legitimate upside as a 6/1 overlay with an 18% career win rate.
Hits Different tops the TrackWiz ratings at 87.08 and draws in at 3/1 — a fair price for a horse that profiles as the class of this claiming mile-and-70-yards field. Trainer John Fennessy puts David Delgado aboard, and a 9% career win rate tells you this horse has found the winner's circle before. The combination of top rating and proven ability to win makes this our best bet on the card in Race 2.
Love Thyself is the most intriguing horse in the field from a pure win-percentage standpoint — an 18% career win rate is legitimately strong for a claimer at this level, and the 79.3 TrackWiz rating backs that up. Trainer Dana Saul sends her out at 6/1, which looks like potential overlay territory given those credentials. She's our place pick and worth a look in the exacta underneath Hits Different.
Equinamous posts a 76.17 TrackWiz rating and a 13% career win rate, and trainer Cathy Carr Rozantz keeps horses fit at Presque Isle. The 4/1 morning line is fair, and with a 54 average speed figure matching the top end of this field, she has enough back class to hit the board at a mile and change.
Race 3
Maiden Special Weight · 1 mi 70 yd · Dirt
A maiden special weight route that sets up as a two-horse battle at the top of the ratings, with a lightly-raced field where anything can happen going a mile and 70 yards.
Bestball is the standout in this maiden special weight with an 86.35 TrackWiz rating — the highest in the field by nearly 18 points. Trainer Destin G. Heath hands the mount to Gaddiel A. Martinez, who has been a consistent presence on the Presque Isle circuit. At 7/2 on the morning line, this is one of the better-priced top picks on the card. The 54 average speed figure is in line with the field, but the overall rating gap does a lot of the heavy lifting.
Equator is a smart place play at 4/1 — his 68.64 TrackWiz rating is second in the field and he matches Mr Bobo's 55 average speed figure, the best mark in the race. Trainer Eoin G. Harty places two horses in this spot, which suggests confidence in the barn's form, and Taylor Kingsley takes the mount. If Bestball falters on the front end, Equator looks like the most likely beneficiary.
Musket Magic rounds out the TrackWiz top three at 63.67, and the Scooter Davis-Rosario Montanez combo has been a reliable one at this meet. The 9/2 morning line gives you decent show value if you're building a trifecta, and in a maiden field where nobody has won before, keeping your exotics wide is smart handicapping.
Today's three free races cover the first half of the card, and they set an intriguing tone. Snookie Jones opens things in Race 1, a 6-furlong Maiden Claiming sprint where our ratings give her the edge at 3/1 on the morning line — a solid price for a horse our model respects. Race 2 stretches out to a mile and 70 yards for a Claiming field, and Hits Different earns the same TrackWiz rating as Snookie Jones, which tells you the model sees two genuinely comparable situations — always worth noting when building early-card parlays. Race 3 steps up in class to Maiden Special Weight territory, and Bestball at 7/2 is our top selection — MSW races can be unpredictable with lightly raced horses, but the rating supports confidence here.
One thing connecting these three free picks: all three races are on dirt under ideal fall conditions, and the clear, dry weather should keep the surface playing true all afternoon. No bias drama today — just horse vs. horse.
