Parx Racing Picks & Predictions — October 7, 2026
It's a crisp fall Wednesday at Parx Racing — clear skies, 65°F, and a nine-race all-dirt card that's got plenty to dig into. Conditions look ideal for fast, honest times on the main track, so speed figures should carry their full weight today and early pace will be worth watching in every sprint.
The card is a nice blend of claiming races and upper-level allowance competition, with distances ranging from a tight 5½ furlongs in the nightcap maiden event all the way out to two route races at a mile and 70 yards in the middle of the card. There's something for every betting style here — sprinters, route horses, and a few intriguing price plays that our models flagged overnight.
Three races are open to everyone today, and our premium subscribers get the full nine-race breakdown. Let's set the table.
Best Bets
Race 1
Claiming · 6 1/2 fur · Dirt
A wide-open claiming sprint where the top TrackWiz rating belongs to a 6/1 shot, not the morning-line favorite — expect a competitive pace and real upset potential throughout.
Chilling Zensation tops the TrackWiz ratings board at 82.71, which is a meaningful edge in this field. Trainer Kathleen A. Demasi sends her out at 6/1 on the morning line, which looks like live value if the market underestimates that rating gap. Jockey Abner Adorno gets the call, and with an average speed figure of 54 matching the pack, the separation here is quality over raw speed — the kind of edge that shows up in finishes. At 6/1, this is our best bet in the opener.
Major Weigelia draws the morning-line favoritism at 7/2 and backs it up with the second-highest TrackWiz rating in the field at 76.02. A 25% career win rate under trainer Jose A. Gallegos is legitimately strong for this level — one of the better win percentages in the race. Jose A. Batista gets the mount, and at 6.5 furlongs on dirt, this horse fits the distance profile well. A solid place play even if Chilling Zensation is the one we're chasing.
Introubleagain is the longshot angle worth including in your exotics at 10/1 on the morning line, with a TrackWiz rating of 75.66 that's nearly identical to Major Weigelia's. Trainer Ilias Tapsas has a live horse here if the pace sets up right and the two top-rated horses take each other on. Dexter Haddock in the irons gives this one a capable pilot to find a closing lane in a field where the pace could be honest.
Race 2
Claiming · 6 1/2 fur · Dirt
Macaw dominates the TrackWiz ratings in Race 2, but a 35% career win rate at 5/1 morning line makes this one of the more intriguing value spots on the card.
Macaw is the clear top choice here with a TrackWiz rating of 84.17 — the best in the field by a comfortable margin — and backs it up with the highest career win rate at a remarkable 35%. Trainer Marya K. Montoya has this horse in good form, and Francisco Martinez picks up the mount. An average speed figure of 55 edges the rest of the field, and at 5/1 on the morning line in a claiming sprint, this is exactly the kind of overlay our analysis loves to find.
Liberty Star fits naturally as the place horse, coming in with a 25% career win rate — among the best in the field — and a TrackWiz rating of 67.62. Trainer Ernesto Padilla-Preciado has been active at Parx, and Ruben Silvera aboard adds a capable hand. At 4/1, the price is fair for a horse that has shown the ability to hit the board consistently throughout its career.
Diamond Heist is the third piece of this puzzle at 7/2 on the morning line, with a 21% career win rate and a TrackWiz rating of 65.54. Adam Bowman rides for trainer Miguel A. Rodriguez, and matching Macaw's average speed figure of 55 means this horse won't be embarrassed in the late stages. A logical show play and a useful piece in exacta and trifecta combinations beneath Macaw.
Race 3
Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
Race 3 sets up as a two-horse showdown between Lex and Z Storm Is Coming — both sitting well above the rest of the field in the ratings — with Battle Anthem lurking as the third wheel.
Lex tops the TrackWiz ratings at 88.54 and draws the morning-line favoritism at 2/1, so the oddsmakers and our model are in agreement here. Trainer Juan Carlos Guerrero sends Lex out with Melvis Gonzalez aboard, and a 21% career win rate holds up well in a 6-furlong claiming sprint. The average speed figure of 54 is solid, and the combination of high rating and fair price makes this a confident top selection.
Z Storm Is Coming is the natural foil at 3/1 with a TrackWiz rating of 86.62 — just barely behind Lex — and a strong 30% career win rate that demands respect. Trainer Jorge Diaz has this one ready, with Yan Rodriguez riding. An average speed figure of 55 actually edges Lex, which means the pace scenario could favor Z Storm Is Coming if Lex breaks slowly or gets caught wide. This is a close call at the top and makes for a great exacta key underneath.
Battle Anthem rounds out the top three at 4/1 morning line with a TrackWiz rating of 71.85 — a clear step below the top two but still well clear of the rest of the field. Trainer Trevor Gallimore also saddles Bad Advice in this race, so he has a feel for the pace scenario. Angel Castillo in the irons at 4/1 gives Battle Anthem enough value to include in trifecta coverage.
Our three free races — Races 1, 2, and 3 — are all six-furlong-ish sprints on the dirt, which means pace scenario is going to be the common thread. On a clear, fast Parx surface, front-runners who can get comfortable fractions without pressure have a big edge, and that's a key reason Lex (Race 3, 2/1 morning line, TrackWiz rating 88.54) stands out as the strongest of the free trio. When our top-rated horse also happens to be the public choice, that alignment is worth respecting.
Chilling Zensation in Race 1 is the value play of the free group at 6/1 on the morning line — a rating of 82.71 suggests she's live at a number that could go up at post. Macaw in Race 2 sits at 5/1 with an 84.17 rating, making her another interesting price relative to her chances. Both give you a reason to look beyond chalk in the early pick sequences.
