Parx Racing Picks & Predictions — October 6, 2026

9 racesAll Parx Racing picks

It's a beautiful Tuesday at Parx Racing — 60 degrees, clear skies, and a dry, fast-playing dirt strip that should reward horses that can put up early fractions and hold on. Nine races are on the board today, all run over the main track, so surface consistency is about as good as you're going to get on a weekday card.

The card leans heavily toward the claiming and optional claiming ranks, which is exactly where sharp handicapping pays off most. Class movement — horses dropping or stepping up in company — is the name of the game today, and our TrackWiz analysis flagged several situations where the morning line doesn't fully reflect what we're seeing in the numbers. That spells opportunity.

Three races are fully open to all readers, with the premium full-card breakdown available to subscribers. Whether you're playing a couple of races or building a multi-race ticket, there's plenty to dig into today.

Best Bets

Race 1

Claiming · 1 mi 70 yd · Dirt

The morning line favorite gets bypassed here — TrackWiz analysis points to a top-rated overlay at 6/1 in a wide-open claiming mile that could produce a juicy exacta.

win2Boys of SummerML 6/1

Boys of Summer sits atop our TrackWiz ratings at 82.71 despite being posted at 6/1 on the morning line — that's a meaningful overlay worth attacking. Trainer Miguel Penaloza sends this one out alongside a stablemate, which signals confidence in the barn's condition. Jockey Dexter Haddock gets the call, and the 1 mile 70 yard distance on dirt suits a horse that profiles as a patient, stalking type. The gap between his 82.71 rating and the favorite Melt With You's 71.98 is significant enough to make this our top play.

place3Fast BobML 5/1

Fast Bob at 5/1 with an 80.00 TrackWiz rating is another horse the morning line seems to be underselling in this field. Trainer Michael V. Pino has a knack for putting horses on the board in claiming company, and Mychel J. Sanchez is one of the more reliable sticks at Parx. He's a natural fit in the exacta and place pool given the pace shape this race figures to produce.

show5FromanothamuthaML 9/2

Fromanothamutha brings a 78.23 rating into a race where only two horses grade higher, making her a solid exotic anchor at a 9/2 price. Also from the Penaloza barn, she benefits from a trainer who clearly has his horses rolling today — having two live ones in the same race is not a coincidence. Use her underneath in trifectas.

Race 2

Claiming · 6 1/2 fur · Dirt

Pastero looks like a class standout in this 6.5-furlong claiming sprint, but a sharp morning-line favorite lurks to complicate things at the wire.

win6PasteroML 5/1

Pastero draws our top rating of 84.17 in a field where the next-closest horse, Captain Fancy, checks in at 74.43 — that's nearly a 10-point gap, which is substantial in a claiming sprint. Trainer Scott A. Lake is one of the most accomplished conditioners in this region, and Dexter Haddock's return to the saddle adds a professional edge. The average speed figure of 54 ties the field's best, and at 5/1 on the morning line, there's clear value if he runs to his rating.

place7Captain FancyML 5/2

Captain Fancy comes in as the 5/2 morning line favorite with a 74.43 rating and shares the top average speed figure of 54 with Pastero. Trainer Eli Betancourt knows this track well, and Kleiner A. Mejias is a capable rider who can get him into a good spot early in a six-and-a-half furlong race. If Pastero falters, Captain Fancy looks like the most likely alternative.

show2Prairie DunesML 5/1

Prairie Dunes is an interesting show play at 5/1 — the morning line doesn't love him, but a 56.19 rating and a 53 average speed figure are respectable in this field. Trainer Miguel A. Rodriguez has Prairie Dunes pointed toward this distance, and while his 4% career win rate isn't inspiring, he fires at a higher rate in spots like this. Include him in trifectas as a live underneath piece.

Race 3

Maiden Claiming · 1 mi 70 yd · Dirt

Maiden claiming on the dirt going a mile and 70 yards — two horses separate themselves clearly from the pack, setting up a potentially intriguing photo for top honors.

win1ZamirzoML 4/1

Zamirzo tops our TrackWiz ratings at 85.62 in a maiden claiming field where no horse has won before, making every edge count. Trainer Howard R. Brown, Jr. is sending him out at a reasonable 4/1 morning line, suggesting the connections believe in him without shouting it from the rooftops. Angel Castillo gets the mount and should be able to settle him nicely in a one-mile-plus race that favors horses with stamina. In a wide-open maiden field, a rating gap of over a point on the second-highest horse is enough to make him our top selection.

place6The FridgeML 5/2

The Fridge is right there with an 84.29 rating — just 1.33 points behind Zamirzo — and the 5/2 morning line reflects that the public is on him hard. Trainer Melecio Saldana Guerrero puts him with Kendry Rivera, a capable jockey who can place him favorably in the early stages of a sprint-turned-route. He's the natural exacta partner with Zamirzo, and at 5/2 in the place pool, the value may push further toward the win side.

show3Spring St. DreamerML 2/1

Spring St. Dreamer is the 2/1 morning line favorite, which tells you where the public money is going despite his 59.88 rating falling notably below our top two. Trainer Louis C. Linder, Jr. has him sharp enough to attract that attention, and Yan Rodriguez gives him a professional ride. He's the safety net in trifectas — use him as the third piece underneath Zamirzo and The Fridge.

Our three free best bets span the early portion of the card — Race 1 (1 mile 70 yards), Race 2 (6½ furlongs), and Race 3 (maiden claiming, 1 mile 70 yards) — and each one offers a different flavor. Boys of Summer (6/1 ML, 82.71 rating) is the kind of price you circle on a clear, fast-track day when the speed figures quietly sneak up on you. Pastero (5/1 ML, 84.17 rating) is our top dirt sprinter in the early going — on a surface playing this true, that figure carries real weight. And in the maiden claiming route, Zamirzo (4/1 ML, 85.62 rating) posts the highest rating of the free trio and looks like the most complete profile in the field.

One theme connecting all three: the firm, consistent dirt surface should keep the pace scenarios predictable, which helps horses that have shown reliable late kick — and all three of our free picks profile that way. Good conditions, logical pace setups, and morning line value. That's the recipe.
