Keeneland Picks & Predictions — October 11, 2026

9 racesAll Keeneland picks

Welcome to Keeneland on October 11, 2026 — and welcome to mud season. Rain is falling at 65°F in Lexington, which means the dirt strip figures to play wet all afternoon. That's not just a weather note — it's a handicapping factor that can flip a race on its head, rewarding horses with early speed who can stay out of traffic and punish closers who need a clean, dry kick.

We've got a nine-race card to break down today, mixing Starter Allowances, Claiming races, Maiden events, and a Stakes race on the turf — though keep a close eye on that Race 8 turf sprint. When the rail is soft and the grass is holding moisture, pace and footing become everything, and TrackWiz analysis will have you covered on every angle.

Three races are open to all readers, and six are available to subscribers with our full premium breakdown. Let's get into it.

Best Bets

Race 1

Starter Allowance · 1 1/16 mi · Dirt

A Starter Allowance at 1 1/16 miles on dirt where one horse stands head and shoulders above the rest on our ratings, but the 8/5 morning line leaves little margin for error if the pace gets hot early.

win3Indy Charges OnML 8/5

Indy Charges On is the class of this field by a wide margin — an 89.12 TrackWiz rating that's more than 28 points clear of the next-best rival. Jose L. Ortiz gets the call, and he's the kind of rider who can dictate or stalk pace at this distance with equal skill. A 33% career win rate tells you this horse knows how to close out a race, and in a Starter Allowance field, that combination of elite rating and elite jockey is tough to beat. At 8/5, the price isn't exciting, but the profile is sound.

place4Trusty RustyML 3/1

Trusty Rusty draws the four-hole and gets Luis Saez, one of the sharpest tactical riders in the country. The 60.95 TrackWiz rating ranks third in the field, but trainer Robert B. Hess Jr. knows how to place horses. The morning line of 3/1 suggests the market agrees there's a chance here, and at a mile and a sixteenth on dirt, a stalking trip from Saez could land this one in the exacta.

show1Pike PlaceML 9/2

Pike Place opens at 9/2 with a 56.83 rating and a 23% career win rate — solid underlying numbers for a horse in the show position of our ticket. Francisco Arrieta gets the mount for Thomas Van Berg, and from the rail, track position is very much in play. A pace scenario that sets up for closers might squeeze Pike Place out, but if the leaders hit the turn in front, this one has the back-end numbers to finish.

Race 2

Maiden Claiming · 1 1/16 mi · Dirt

A wide-open 14-horse Maiden Claiming marathon on dirt where every runner carries a zero career win percentage — this is about identifying who has the best raw material, because nobody has delivered yet.

win10Diamond Eyed JackML 5/2

Diamond Eyed Jack is the standout in a field of unproven maidens, posting an 87.81 TrackWiz rating that's more than 34 points clear of any other horse in the race. Tyler Gaffalione is one of the hottest riders in the country right now, and trainer Brendan P. Walsh has a strong record developing young horses at a distance. At 5/2 on the morning line, this is exactly the kind of short favorite we're comfortable recommending when the rating separation is this dramatic.

place2Mr. All InML 15/1

Mr. All In is the value play on our card — a 53.29 rating that tops the mid-tier cluster in this field, yet the morning line sits at a juicy 15/1. Trainer W. Bret Calhoun also saddles Road Trippin in this race, but our analysis points to Mr. All In as the sharper of the two entries based on the ratings gap. At those odds, he's worth including underneath in exactas and trifectas.

show13Working for GloryML 8/1

Working for Glory checks in at 51.93 on the TrackWiz scale — just a tick below Mr. All In but well ahead of the majority of this field. The 8/1 morning line seems fair, and Edgar Morales gives the horse a competent pilot from an outside post. In a maiden claiming sprint-turned-route with this many horses, a calm trip from somewhere in the middle of the pack could be enough to hit the board.

Race 3

Claiming · 1 mi · Dirt

Two horses dominate the ratings in this one-mile dirt Claiming — Sassy Princess and Hidden Recipe are separated by just 3.38 points at the top, setting up a potential battle between a short chalk and a legitimate alternative at nearly three times the price.

win6Sassy PrincessML 7/5

Sassy Princess is our top selection at 7/5 morning line — an 88.28 TrackWiz rating leads the field, and her 26% career win rate backs up the figures. Tyler Gaffalione is a premier rider who excels in these conditions, and trainer David Jacobson runs a sharp operation. The 55 average speed figure also paces the field outright. Yes, the price is short, but the horse earns it on paper.

place2Hidden RecipeML 9/2

Hidden Recipe is the most compelling value angle in this race — an 84.90 rating that is genuinely close to the favorite's number, yet she opens at 9/2. The 38% career win rate is the best in the entire field, which tells you this horse competes and converts. Trainer Douglas W. Danner has her in a Claiming spot that looks very winnable, and Yedsit Hazlewood gets a live mount from the two-hole.

show4Nilo's RoseML 6/1

Nilo's Rose rates third in the field at 51.38 and brings a 30% career win rate — respectable numbers in a Claiming field at this level. Keith J. Asmussen rides for trainer Steven M. Asmussen, and the family barn is always dangerous when they wheel out at Keeneland. At 6/1, she's a sensible show bet and a nice trifecta anchor underneath the top two.

Our three free best bets today span the first three races on the card, all run at 1 mile or farther on the dirt — and with a wet track in play, we're leaning toward horses that have shown they handle off going without losing their competitive edge. Indy Charges On (Race 1, 8/5 morning line) leads the way with an 89.12 TrackWiz rating, the top mark on the entire card. In Race 2, Diamond Eyed Jack (5/2) gives us a maiden value play worth targeting, and in Race 3, Sassy Princess comes in as a solid 7/5 favorite in the Claiming mile — a number we're comfortable siding with given her profile.

One pace angle connecting all three: with a sloppy or muddy surface, early position is at a premium on Keeneland's dirt. Horses that can settle near the front without burning themselves up in the first half-mile are going to have a significant edge. Watch for that theme as the card unfolds.
