Horseshoe Indianapolis Picks & Predictions — May 20, 2026
It's a cloudy Wednesday at Horseshoe Indianapolis with temperatures sitting at 59°F — not the kind of afternoon that screams "beach day," but it's a perfectly fine setup for nine races on the dirt. Conditions look stable, so don't expect weather to be much of a factor in your handicapping today.
The card stretches from a one-mile Maiden Special Weight opener all the way to a sharp 330-yard sprint closer, giving you everything from raw, unproven maidens to seasoned allowance horses. There's real range here — both in race type and in betting opportunity.
TrackWiz has broken down all nine races, and a few names jumped off the page during our analysis. Kelli Girl goes postward as a morning-line favorite in the nightcap, Earl's Lady looks like a strong play in the Maiden Claiming, and a couple of genuine longshot angles emerged deeper in the card that are worth your attention.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Special Weight · 1 mi · Dirt
A wide-open maiden special weight mile with Julee Forever scratched out, reshuffling the order and leaving Abra Abra as the TrackWiz rating leader in a field of first-time or maiden runners.
Abra Abra (4) tops our ratings at 78.86 and goes postward at a juicy 9/2 morning line under Joseph D. Ramos for trainer Tianna Richardville, who also saddles second choice Crazy Sexy Cool. The Richardville barn having two bullets in this race is an angle worth noting — trainers don't double up in a field without confidence in both. Abra Abra's rating edge over stablemate Crazy Sexy Cool (67.17) is meaningful, and at a price that likely stays close to morning line, this is our top play. Crazy Sexy Cool's 53 average speed figure gives her pace presence, but Abra Abra looks like the sharper form horse on our numbers.
Rating board at 52.4. Ridden by Rodney A. Prescott.
Race 2
Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
With the morning-line favorite I'm a Cookie Lover scratched out, this six-furlong claiming sprint sets up as a two-horse battle at the top, and the value picture just got a lot more interesting.
Zoomaha (1) is our top pick, carrying a TrackWiz rating of 84.90 and the best career win percentage in the field at 20% — that's a horse who knows how to finish. Trainer Genaro Garcia sends him out with Marcelino Pedroza Jr. in the irons, a sharp combination at this level. The 9/2 morning line looks generous given the scratch of the favorite, and we'd expect him to tighten considerably at post time. Pickle Shoes (6) is the main threat at 83.20 on our ratings with a 16% win rate, so key her underneath in exactas, but Zoomaha gets the nod as our best bet.
Race 3
Maiden Claiming · 5 1/2 fur · Dirt
Vaedra's scratch tightens up this maiden claiming sprint, with Earl's Lady sitting on a rating nearly 30 points clear of the field — but the morning line suggests the public may not fully catch up to that edge.
Earl's Lady (5) is a standout on paper, posting a TrackWiz rating of 87.81 — the highest in this field by a wide margin — while going postward at a very workable 5/2 morning line. Alberto Burgos picks up the mount for trainer Randy L. Klopp, and the 53 average speed figure matches the top of this field. In a maiden claiming sprint at 5.5 furlongs, a horse with that kind of rating advantage doesn't need much luck — she just needs to run her race. Muscle Mommy (7) is the main threat at 55.40 on our ratings, but that's a 32-point gap we're comfortable fading at these odds.
Rating board at 55.4. Ridden by Alex Achard. Ranked 2nd for recent race speed at 13.00 sec/furlong.
Rating board at 47.9. Ridden by Hannah Leahey.
The first three races are fully unlocked for every TrackWiz reader, and they make for a solid foundation to the day. Earl's Lady headlines the free slate with an 87.81 TrackWiz rating in Race 3 — that's the top rating among all three free races and a number that stands out in a 5½-furlong Maiden Claiming on the dirt. She's posted at 5/2 on the morning line, which suggests the market respects her too, but there may still be a touch of value depending on how the pool settles. Zoomaha (Race 2, 84.90 rating) adds another strong contender in the six-furlong Claiming, while Abra Abra opens the day in the one-mile MSW with a rating of 78.86 — a reasonable foundation play in what figures to be a wide-open maiden field.
The pace scenario across the free races is worth noting: the dirt has been the only surface in play all day, so any tendencies that develop early — whether speed is holding or closers are firing — should absolutely inform how you approach the premium races later on the card.
