Fort Erie Picks & Predictions — July 6, 2026
Fort Erie is open for business on Monday, July 6, and Mother Nature is coming along for the ride. Rain is falling at post time with temperatures sitting at a muggy 79°F — and on a compact six-race card, that wet Dirt is going to be the story of the afternoon. Any horse that has shown an ability to handle an off track moves up in our ratings today, and any that have question marks in the mud get downgraded accordingly.
The card mixes Claiming and Allowance company on the Dirt with a pair of Starter Optional Claiming routes on the Turf — and yes, that turf surface will be worth monitoring closely as the afternoon unfolds. Six races, plenty of angles, and a couple of morning-line prices that look very gettable. Let's break it down.
Best Bets
Race 1
Claiming · 5 1/2 fur · Dirt
A wide-open 5½-furlong dirt claimer where the morning-line favorite is nowhere near the top of our ratings — making this a prime spot to look against the chalk and toward overlooked value.
A La Carte draws our top rating by a wide margin at 87.08 — more than 38 points clear of the second-best figure in the field. Trainer Nick Guy Mileni, Jr. saddles Helen Marie Vanek, and while A La Carte's 7% career win rate looks modest, our model clearly sees something clicking right now. At 3/1 on the morning line, this isn't even a longshot play — it's a well-rated horse at fair value that deserves to anchor your tickets.
Palmilla's Bet opens at 8/1 and owns our second-highest rating in the field at 53.92 — that's a significant gap between morning-line price and projected performance. The 3% career win rate is a caution flag, but in a placing scenario with a full field, Chad Lee gets a horse with a live figure and an overlay price worth including in exactas and quinellas.
Video Evidence comes in as the 2/1 second choice on the morning line and carries a 48.9 TrackWiz rating with a 16% career win figure. Kirk Johnson is a capable pilot and the Mathes barn knows this level well. At that short price Video Evidence isn't a standalone value play, but its class profile makes it a legitimate show candidate and a sensible exotic saver behind our top two.
Race 2
Allowance · 5 fur · Dirt
The morning-line favorite in this 5-furlong allowance sits near the bottom of our ratings, opening the door for a pair of well-rated outsiders to steal the show.
Captain Clutch is our top-rated horse in this allowance at 79.79 — nearly 17 points ahead of the next horse in our model — and he brings a 25% career win rate that stands out in this field. The 8/1 morning line is a gift for a horse this well-rated, and Juan Crawford is a sharp rider who should keep him in a comfortable spot in a short 5-furlong dash. If you're playing one horse to win in Race 2, this is your value play.
Chargethatmountain (77.52 rating) is right on the heels of our top pick in the numbers and carries a 16% career win mark under trainer Richard M. Davis. Pierre Mailhot takes the mount, and at 7/2 on the morning line there's legitimate upside here. If the pace heats up early, Chargethatmountain profiles as a horse that can close into a place or better.
Ruthless Action sits third in our ratings at 62.71 and is the 2/1 morning-line second choice — meaning the betting public already respects this one. Kirk Johnson aboard for Gary Chudobiak gives the horse a professional front end, and a 7% career win rate suggests this is a horse that runs competitive races more often than it wins. It's a sensible show anchor and exacta/trifecta filler at a fair price.
Race 3
Starter Optional Claiming · 5 fur · Turf
An eight-horse turf starter optional claimer at 5 furlongs with three legitimate contenders clustered near the top of the ratings — pace dynamics on the grass could shuffle the order, so field position will matter here.
People Are People checks in as our highest-rated runner in Race 3 at 88.54 — the top figure in the entire card through three races — and owns a 22% career win rate that backs up the number. The 2/1 morning line is the shortest price in our top three but the rating justifies it. Trainer Anthony Adamo sends out Da-Sean Zavier Gaskin, and with the highest average speed figure in the field at 56, this one should be moving late on the Fort Erie turf.
Galvaston is a genuine overlay at 9/2 on the morning line against an 82.77 TrackWiz rating — that's a horse priced like a mid-pack runner who our model grades as a near-top-tier contender. The 4% career win rate is the one blemish, but turf routes can be finicky and Ismael Eluid Mosqueira gets the call for George Newland's barn. At that price, Galvaston belongs in every exotic combination.
Mia and Me carries a 78.60 rating — third-best in the field — and posts a 20% career win rate that gives trainer Joseph Humber's horse real form credibility. Juan Crawford is one of the sharper riders on the Fort Erie circuit and the 5/2 price makes Mia and Me a dual-threat: worth a look on top in exactas while also serving as a sturdy show ticket in a competitive turf race.
Our three free races — Races 1, 2, and 3 — cover a nice cross-section of today's card and feature one play that really jumps off the page. A La Carte opens the card at 3/1 in a 5½-furlong Claiming sprint on Dirt, and our TrackWiz rating of 87.08 makes her a deserving top choice. Short-distance dirt sprints on a rain-soaked track tend to favor horses with early foot, so pace scenario is critical in Race 1.
Race 2 is where the casual bettor's eyes should widen: Captain Clutch sits at 8/1 on the morning line in an Allowance sprint, yet our model rates him a strong contender at 79.79. Allowance company can be tricky to read, but an 8/1 morning line with that kind of internal rating screams value — this is exactly the kind of overlay TrackWiz analysis is built to find. Then in Race 3, People Are People heads to the Turf at 2/1 in Starter Optional Claiming with our highest free-race rating at 88.54. Watch the turf conditions closely before wagering here.
