Fairmount Park Picks & Predictions — June 30, 2026
It's a scorching Tuesday at Fairmount Park — clear skies, 91 degrees, and the kind of summer heat that bakes the dirt fast and firm. Those conditions typically favor early speed, and with an all-dirt, eight-race card on tap, pace scenario is going to be the word of the day.
The card mixes maiden specials, claimers, and a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming tests that represent the class ceiling this afternoon. We've got opinions on all eight races, from the opening maiden special weight to a Starter Allowance nightcap that looks genuinely competitive.
Three races are available free today, giving everyone a taste of what TrackWiz analysis looks like in practice. The other five are part of our premium breakdown — and on a card with this much pace intrigue, that's where the real work gets done.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Special Weight · 6 fur · Dirt
A wide-open maiden sprint where the morning-line favorite doesn't carry the top TrackWiz rating — expect pace pressure early and a contested stretch run.
Army Medic tops our ratings at 61.17 despite going off at 9/2 on the morning line, making this horse one of the better value angles in the opener. In a field of first-time starters and maidens where career win percentages are all zeros, trainer Heather Irion's runner separates on the strength of our model's overall assessment. Angel Ortega Stanley gets the call and should have plenty of options in a pace scenario that figures to be competitive from gate to wire. At 9/2, there's real overlay potential here if the crowd loads up on the chalk.
Sweet Skylar is the morning-line favorite at 4/5 for trainer Scott Becker, and that barn knows how to win at Fairmount — a 60.0 TrackWiz rating backs up the public confidence. Victor Santiago takes the mount, and with an average speed figure of 53 matching most of the field, this one should be right there at the top of the stretch. Even if Army Medic gets the better of her, Sweet Skylar looks like a safe place ticket in a tricky maiden field.
Miss Savannah is the other Scott Becker runner in the race at 3/1, giving the trainer a dual threat that could make life very difficult for the rest of the field. No avgSpeed figure is available for this one, which adds a bit of mystery, but a 56.67 rating and a respected morning line suggest Becker's team likes what they've seen at home. Alexander Bendezu aboard is a capable pilot, and in exotics this horse makes a logical third wheel alongside her stablemate.
Race 2
Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
A heavy favorite dominates the TrackWiz ratings in this claiming sprint, but two live longshots lurk at big prices and could make the exotics very interesting.
Dundie is as close to a stand-alone as you'll find in a claiming field — a 90.0 TrackWiz rating is the ceiling of our model, and a 36% career win rate is elite for this level. Trainer Scott Becker sends Johanis Aranguren to the irons, a sharp combo that knows how to handle short favorites. The 4/5 morning line won't offer much value straight up, but Dundie is the kind of horse you build your exotics around. Fade at your own risk.
Good Scout at 7/2 is the most intriguing piece of the ticket behind the chalk — a 78.5 rating is legitimately second-best in the field and trainer Fernando Bahena has Javier Tavares up for a horse with a solid 22% career win rate. That win percentage matches Latin Casino but the rating edge is significant. If Dundie stumbles or gets caught in traffic, Good Scout is the most likely beneficiary.
Dillon Rocks slots in at 3/1 with a 73.51 rating — third-best in the field — and while a 15% career win rate is modest, the TrackWiz number says this horse is competitive at this level. Trainer Mike Durham has Julio E. Felix in the irons, and with an average speed of 53, Dillon Rocks figures to be running late when others tire. A logical show play and a necessary inclusion in any trifecta spread.
Race 3
Claiming · 5 fur · Dirt
One horse stands dramatically clear of the field on our model in this five-furlong claiming sprint, though a pair of overlooked rivals could battle for the minor spots at rewarding prices.
Instastar is the clear top choice here with an 88.54 TrackWiz rating — a number that towers over the rest of this claiming field. Trainer Ralph Martinez sends his own son Brody to the saddle, which is always a strong motivational angle when a trainer puts family on a horse they believe in. At 2/1 on the morning line, the price isn't outrageous for a horse this far clear of the competition on our model. Five furlongs on the Fairmount dirt should suit a horse with an average speed figure of 53.
Truist at 6/1 is a value play hiding in plain sight — a 58.85 rating is second-best in the race, edging out Zenergy Unbridled by the slimmest of margins. The 6/1 price reflects a skeptical crowd likely focused on a dismal 2% career win rate, but in a short five-furlong sprint the pace scenario can play tricks and a horse with this rating profile can easily pick up a place check. Victor Lara gets the mount for trainer John C. Wainwright.
Zenergy Unbridled opens at 15/1 but carries a 58.2 TrackWiz rating that says this horse belongs — and a 16% career win rate is actually the best among the non-Instastar crowd in this field. Trainer Ben Delong puts Johanis Aranguren up, and Delong runs two horses in this race (Come On Lady is the other), which sometimes signals confidence in the longer price. In a five-furlong race where pace can collapse, Zenergy is a sneaky show play and trifecta add.
Our three free races kick things off nicely. Army Medic draws our attention in Race 1 — a 6-furlong maiden special weight where first-time and lightly raced runners can catch the field off guard on a hot, speed-favoring strip. In Race 2, Dundie comes in as a heavy morning-line favorite at 4/5 in a 6-furlong claimer, and that kind of chalk doesn't always translate to value — but our rating backs the confidence. Race 3 brings Instastar into a 5-furlong sprint at 2/1, a spot where we see a legitimate contender at a workable price.
The throughline across these three free races? Speed. On a sun-baked Fairmount dirt track at 91°F, early position is at a premium, and all three of our free top picks profile as horses that want to run near the front. Watch the fractions early — if the pace heats up as fast as the weather, closers could get a look, but we're not counting on it.
