Charles Town Picks & Predictions — October 22, 2026
Charles Town kicks off Thursday night under clear skies and cool 55°F temperatures — ideal conditions for fast dirt and honest speed figures. Eight races are on the card tonight, all on the main track, ranging from short 4 1/2-furlong sprints to a route at 1 1/16 miles, giving us plenty of different pace scenarios to attack.
The card leans heavily toward claiming company and maiden ranks, which is par for the course at Charles Town — but that doesn't mean there isn't serious money to be made. A few of tonight's races set up with pace dynamics that strongly favor one running style, and our TrackWiz ratings have flagged some standout numbers worth paying attention to.
Three races are open to everyone tonight. The remaining five are part of our full premium breakdown. Let's get into it.

Race 1

A razor-thin edge separates the top two here — Speedy Bubbles and Arditamente are virtually deadlocked on ratings, making this a true two-horse war at the top with Genecho lurking as the only credible spoiler.
Speedy Bubbles tops our TrackWiz ratings at 89.42 and draws the rail in a short 4.5-furlong sprint — a distance that rewards horses who can break sharply and hold position. Trainer Vanessa Peltroche keeps this one sharp, and jockey Maximo Chilo gets the call with a horse that figures to be forwardly placed from the jump. At 7/5 on the morning line, the public agrees with our numbers, and the rating margin over the rest of the field (outside Arditamente) is substantial enough to trust the chalk here.
Arditamente is essentially a dead heat with the top pick on ratings — an 89.25 to 89.42 split is noise, not separation. Trainer Tyler S. Shanley sends this one out at 6/5, suggesting connections are confident, and jockey Sunday Diaz, Jr. is a capable hand in short sprints at Charles Town. With a 15% career win rate, this horse knows how to finish, and if Speedy Bubbles gets rank or stumbles at the break, Arditamente could easily flip the result.
Genecho at 3/1 is the most intriguing play on the undercard if you're building exotics. The 20% career win rate is the best in the field — this horse has a proven history of hitting the board — and trainer Osborne Smith has Jacqueline A. Davis in the irons, a solid Charles Town jockey. The rating gap to the top two is real, but in a short sprint anything can happen, and Genecho's win percentage gives you confidence it won't run an empty race.
Race 2
Allowance Optional Claiming · 1 1/16 mi · Dirt
Keen Talent enters as both the morning-line favorite and the TrackWiz top-rated horse, but a strong mid-pack field — Nola Boss and Happy Jaunt in particular — makes this allowance optional claimer more competitive than the odds suggest.
Keen Talent is the class of this field by our metrics, posting a TrackWiz rating of 89.42 — tied for the highest mark we've seen all card. Jockey Jeiron Barbosa pairs with trainer Anthony Farrior, and a 21% career win rate signals a horse that converts regularly, not just occasionally. The 1 1/16-mile distance tests stamina, and Keen Talent's profile suggests a horse that can rate off the pace and finish — a useful trait when the field includes multiple horses with similar average speed figures.
Nola Boss brings a solid 80.99 TrackWiz rating and represents genuine value at 4/1 on the morning line. Trainer Ronney W. Brown pairs with jockey Moises Santaella — a live combination at this level — and a 17% career win rate is respectable in allowance company. If the pace gets hot up front, Nola Boss could find a clean trip and pick up the pieces, making this a strong place contender and a key exotic inclusion.
Happy Jaunt is an intriguing third wheel here at 5/1, carrying a TrackWiz rating of 69.79 that represents a clear step back from the top two but still clears the rest of the field comfortably. Trainer Timothy Shanley is a familiar name in the Charles Town barn area, and the consistent average speed figure of 52 tells you this horse shows up reliably. In a pace scenario where Keen Talent and Nola Boss might wear each other down, Happy Jaunt's stalking style could deliver a board finish.
Race 3
Claiming · 4 1/2 fur · Dirt
Lino's Legacy tops the TrackWiz ratings but goes off at a generous 9/2 — the morning-line favorite is actually Saichi's Girl at 8/5, setting up a classic case of model disagreement with the market that sharp bettors should pay attention to.
Lino's Legacy is our top-rated horse in this 4.5-furlong dirt sprint at 84.90, yet the morning line has this one at 9/2 — a meaningful disconnect from the favorite's 8/5 price. Trainer Timothy C. Grams has a pair of runners in this race, which can sometimes signal where stable confidence lies, and jockey Larry C. Reynolds is a steady Charles Town hand. The 22% career win rate is among the best in the field, and at the projected odds, this is the best value play on the ticket.
Saichi's Girl opens as the 8/5 morning-line favorite, which tells you the connections and the early market respect this filly's chances. A TrackWiz rating of 76.32 is solid, a 14% career win rate is workmanlike, and jockey Christian Hiraldo is aboard for trainer M. Joanna Boggs. She figures to attract plenty of action and should factor in the stretch, making her a safe place backup even if Lino's Legacy gets the better of her at the wire.
Medallion of Ash brings the best career win percentage in the field at 25% — this is a horse that knows how to hit the board. Trainer Leslie Cromer sends out Alexis Rios-Conde, Jr., and a TrackWiz rating of 71.36 puts Medallion of Ash clearly in the mix for third money. The average speed figure of 52 is consistent with the front half of this field, and at 5/1 on the morning line, including this one in exacta and trifecta tickets adds solid depth.
The free portion of tonight's card covers Races 1 through 3, and there's a clear thread running through all three: early speed on this tight Charles Town oval tends to be rewarded, especially in these short 4 1/2-furlong dashes. Speedy Bubbles (R1, morning line 7/5, TrackWiz rating 89.42) and Lino's Legacy (R3, 9/2 ML, rating 84.90) both profile as pace-positive runners in spots where getting to the front could be the entire ballgame. Don't sleep on Lino's Legacy at nearly 5-1 — that rating is strong enough to suggest the morning line may be leaving some value on the table.
Race 2 stretches things out to 1 1/16 miles in Allowance Optional Claiming company, where Keen Talent (7/5 ML, rating 89.42) gets the top TrackWiz score among tonight's free-race picks. Route races at Charles Town demand a different kind of pace read, and Keen Talent looks well-suited to handle the added ground. Three solid plays to get your night started — all free, no subscription needed.
