Best Bets
Race 1
Claiming · 4 1/2 fur · Dirt
A wide-open 4 1/2-furlong dirt claimer where the top TrackWiz rating belongs to a 6/1 morning-line shot, creating real value at the top while the chalk sits mid-pack.
Martin's Mo Tom (8) carries the highest TrackWiz rating in the field at 82.71, a clear edge over his competition in this claiming sprint. Trainer Timothy Shanley sends him out with Jose Y. Diaz in the irons, a reliable pairing at Charles Town. At 6/1 on the morning line, this is a genuine overlay situation — our model likes him significantly more than the oddsmakers do, and that gap is where value lives.
Johnny Lies (4) backs up the top selection nicely with a solid 76.91 TrackWiz rating and a 12% career win rate that leads the field among horses with meaningful starts. The 5/2 morning line reflects public respect, and trainer Anthony Farrior keeps him sharp with Jeiron Barbosa up — a competitive book in Charles Town's claiming ranks.
This Is the Life (3) checks in at 66.67 on our ratings scale and posts the field's best average speed figure at 57, which matters plenty in a short 4 1/2-furlong dash where pace is paramount. Denis Vicente Araujo has the call, and at 7/2, this horse offers solid exotic support as a horse who can put herself on the front end early.
Race 2
Claiming · 6 1/2 fur · Dirt
Seven Natty Patty comes in as a heavy favorite but faces a sneaky field at 6 1/2 furlongs, with at least two horses capable of pressing the pace and making life uncomfortable.
Seven Natty Patty (1) is the class of this field by the numbers — an 89.42 TrackWiz rating is the kind of score that demands attention, and an 18% career win rate is respectable for this level. Moises Santaella takes the mount for trainer Jean L. Adorno, and at 7/5, the crowd agrees this is the one to beat. The question is whether the price offers enough value, but when the rating gap is this wide, sometimes you just go with the best horse.
Ready to Rocknroll (3) is the most interesting price in the race at 6/1, sporting a 75.51 rating that puts him a clear second on our board. Nomar Arroyo Bueno rides for trainer Jacob G. Hess, and a 13% career win rate shows he's been around the winner's circle at this level. If the favorite gets into a pace fight, this one has the profile to pick up the pieces.
Authentic Appeal (8) catches the eye immediately with a 60% career win rate — by far the highest in this field — and a 73.97 TrackWiz rating that puts her firmly in the mix. Trainer Jaime Cruz sends her out with Maximo Chilo, and at 5/1, there's real show-ticket value here for a horse whose career record screams consistency.
Race 3
Claiming · 4 1/2 fur · Dirt
Preshow Hype looks like a near-wire-to-wire winner in this 4 1/2-furlong dirt claimer, but Beautiful Noise's big career win rate makes the exotics worth building around more than one horse.
Preshow Hype (6) is the standout here with an 89.12 TrackWiz rating — second-highest among all starters on today's Charles Town card in the free-play races. An 8/5 morning line reflects strong public confidence, and trainer Ronney W. Brown keeps a capable barn at this level. Nomar Arroyo Bueno gets the call, and in a short sprint where the best horse often just wires the field, Preshow Hype's rating advantage is hard to argue against.
Beautiful Noise (3) deserves real respect here — a 33% career win rate is elite for this condition, and the 67.53 TrackWiz rating puts her second on our board. Also from the Ronney W. Brown barn, Moises Santaella rides, and having two horses from the same trainer in a short field creates an interesting pace dynamic. At 5/1, she's a must-use underneath in exactas.
Count the Flowers (1) draws the rail and carries a 65.88 rating that slots her solidly third in our rankings. Victor Rodriguez has the mount, and in a field this short, inside post position in a sprint can be a genuine asset. At 5/2, she's fairly priced as a show hedge, and her average speed figure of 52 is competitive with the top finishers.
Our three free races — spread across Races 1, 2, and 3 — all go on the dirt at sprint distances of 4½ furlongs or 6½ furlongs. That's important context: Charles Town's tight oval heavily rewards horses that can establish position early, and on a warm, dry afternoon with a fast surface in play, early speed could be especially dangerous. Martin's Mo Tom (6/1 morning line) stands out as a genuine value play in Race 1 given his rating against the field. Races 2 and 3 are anchored by Seven Natty Patty and Preshow Hype, both posting TrackWiz ratings above 89 — among the highest on the entire card — making these spots as strong as any for confident plays.
If you're building a multi-race sequence to kick off the afternoon, the early triple through Races 1-3 is worth a close look. All three favorites carry legitimate profiles, but the 6/1 morning line on Martin's Mo Tom gives the sequence some real upside if he fires at his rating.
