Century Mile Picks & Predictions — July 3, 2026
Happy almost-Fourth, folks. Century Mile is rolling out an 8-race all-dirt card on Friday, July 3rd, and the conditions couldn't be more cooperative — clear skies, a comfortable 70°F, and a fast track that should reward speed and set up some clean, honest pace scenarios all afternoon.
We've got a nice mix today: a quick-burst 300-yard maiden sprint to kick things off, a pair of allowance routes stretching a mile and 70 yards for the distance lovers, and a healthy dose of claiming and allowance optional claiming races in between. Plenty of angles to work, and TrackWiz analysis has zeroed in on the plays worth your attention.
Three races are open to every reader — no subscription needed. The remaining five are part of our full premium breakdown. Whether you're playing the whole card or cherry-picking spots, we've got you covered.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden · 300 yd · Dirt
A wide-open maiden dash at 300 yards where no horse carries a career win or speed figure — pure potential separates the contenders, and our ratings point to a tight three-way battle at the top.
Bossy Cartel draws the morning-line favoritism at 5/2 for a reason — our TrackWiz rating of 57.5 tops this field in a race where every horse is working off a clean slate. Alexander Marti gets the call, and in a 300-yard dash where gate speed is everything, landing a jockey who can coax a clean break is critical. William H. Leech sends this one out ready, and we're comfortable backing the top-rated horse at a fair price.
Splashy Nightrider trails Bossy Cartel by less than a point in our ratings (56.67) and draws post 6 — an outside gate in a short dash isn't ideal, but Ricardo Moreno knows this surface. Trainer Misael Moreno also has Babes Wagon in here, so the barn is doubly represented and clearly confident in their stock. At 3/1 on the morning line, Splashy Nightrider is a natural place play underneath.
Streakin Snow Wagon grades third in the field at 54.17 on our scale and offers 9/2 morning-line value worth including in exotics. O. Amador Hernandez pilots, and trainer Buckey A. Stockwell is sending this horse in competitive. In a maiden dash with no proven horses, the third-best rating in the field is enough to anchor a show ticket or round out a trifecta wheel.
Race 2
Claiming · 7 fur · Dirt
A claiming route at 7 furlongs headlined by two elite-rated horses locked in a duel for supremacy — but the real story is whether a barn with a 66% career win rate can be denied at a modest morning-line price.
Aintafraidtodream carries our highest rating in this field at 86.35 — more than 24 points clear of the next non-La-Patrona runner — and Kimal Santo has the mount. A 15% career win rate might look modest at first glance, but in a claiming field this competitive, consistent form matters more than raw win percentage. The 7/2 morning line is genuinely attractive for a horse this far ahead on ratings, and we're happy to play this one to win.
La Patrona is the horse you have to respect most here — a staggering 66% career win rate is almost unheard of at this level, and trainer Gonzalo Anderson knows exactly what he has. The 5/2 morning line suggests the market already likes her, and Richard Balgobin is a capable handler around two turns. She's the narrow second choice on our ratings (85.44) but a very live place option if Aintafraidtodream gets the jump in pace.
Dare to Compare opens as the 9/5 morning-line favorite, and trainer Joan Petrowski's horse has the 16% career win rate and a solid 53 average speed figure to justify that public support. Our rating of 61.99 puts her a tier below the top two, but in a race that could set up with honest pace, a closer profile could find its way into the frame. She's a safe show anchor and could easily outrun her role here.
Race 3
Allowance Optional Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
Allowance Optional Claiming at 6 furlongs features a clear class edge at the top, but the morning line has the favorite posted at a price — expect the pace to be honest with multiple speed types in the gate.
Bar Down Express is our top-rated horse in Race 3 at 86.35 — matching Aintafraidtodream's figure from Race 2, which puts this in context for class. Kimal Santo is aboard for Craig Robert Smith, and the 7/2 morning line represents genuine value given the rating edge. An average speed figure of 56 ties for best in the field, and a 14% career win rate in allowance company isn't flashy but reflects a horse that competes at a high level consistently.
Horatio checks in at 76.55 on our ratings with a 56 average speed figure — same as Bar Down Express — and gets Richard Balgobin for trainer Dino K. Condilenios, a pairing worth watching. The 9/2 morning line offers a touch of value for a horse whose speed numbers say he belongs right with the top of this field. His 21% career win rate in similar conditions makes him a natural place play.
Toriador rates at 74.75 with a 25% career win rate — one of the better win percentages in this field — and trainer Milton Palma has him primed at 5/2. The slight tick down in average speed (54) compared to the top two is worth noting, but his consistency and winning habit make him a strong show play and exotic inclusion. Don't overlook the value in using a horse with a one-in-four win rate in third-leg exotics.
Our three free picks today span different race types and give you a real feel for what the card has to offer. Bossy Cartel draws our eye in the opener — a 300-yard maiden dirt sprint that's over in a blink, so early lick out of the gate matters enormously. In Race 2, Aintafraidtodream brings a strong TrackWiz rating of 86.35 into a 7-furlong claimer and looks like a solid all-around play at 7/2 morning line. Round out the freebies with Bar Down Express in Race 3's allowance optional claiming at 6 furlongs — same 86.35 rating, same morning line odds, which makes that a genuinely interesting comparison spot for handicappers who like digging into class dynamics.
The clear-day, fast-track conditions today favor horses that can establish position early without getting buried in a speed duel. Keep that pace scenario in mind as you look at all three of these free races — the front-runners have a legitimate edge when the surface is playing this clean.
