Century Downs Picks & Predictions — October 16, 2026
It's a crisp, clear Friday afternoon at Century Downs — 62°F and sunny, which means a fast, consistent dirt track and no weather excuses for any of the eight fields going postward today. Ideal conditions for speed horses to do their thing, and our models suggest the pace scenarios line up nicely across the card.
Eight races, all on the main dirt oval, ranging from 6 furlongs out to 7½ — enough variety to keep things interesting from first post to last. The conditions span Maiden Claiming all the way up to Allowance company in Race 7, so there's a solid mix of developing prospects and seasoned claimers battling it out.
Three races are fully open to all TrackWiz readers today, with five more locked in for subscribers. Let's break down what you need to know before you head to the windows.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
A wide-open maiden claimer where TrackWiz ratings separate the top three by less than two points — expect a pace battle up front and a tight photo at the wire.
El Rocknroll draws the morning-line favoritism at 2/1 for a reason — our TrackWiz rating of 58.33 tops this field by a clear margin. Trainer Todd Kettleson sends him out with jockey Antonio Whitehall, and in a maiden field where consistency is rare, having the highest composite score in the race matters. With all six horses showing zero career wins, the edge goes to the horse with the strongest underlying metrics, and that's the #5.
Riding in Style sits just a tick below El Rocknroll with a TrackWiz rating of 57.5 and comes in at a reasonable 5/2 morning line. Trainer Mel Snow has two horses in this race, which suggests confidence in the barn's current condition. If El Rocknroll draws the pace pressure, Riding in Style could benefit from a stalking trip and get up for a share.
Rockin Texan is the other Snow trainee in the race, rated 56.67 — the third-best number in the field — and opens at 3/1. Snow running two horses here creates a natural team dynamic where one sets the pace and the other closes. Rockin Texan is a solid inclusion in exactas and trifectas as a hedge against the top two.
Race 2
Maiden Special Weight · 6 fur · Dirt
Two horses — Rock in Command and Dis Creed — stand well clear of the field on TrackWiz ratings and both show recorded speed figures, making this essentially a match race with a sizable gap to the rest.
Rock in Command earns our top TrackWiz rating in this field at 59.67 and shares an average speed figure of 53 with the second choice. The key edge here is trainer Mel Snow, whose barn has been active on this card, and jockey Amadeo Perez aboard — a capable combination at Century Downs. At 6/5 morning line, he's a short price, but in a maiden special weight where the class drop to a lower tier isn't available, you take the best horse.
Dis Creed is essentially neck-and-neck with the top pick at a 59.0 TrackWiz rating and matches the 53 speed figure. Jockey Kimal Santo has live mounts throughout this card and trainer Craig Robert Smith fields a sharp runner. At 8/5 on the morning line, the place return may be thin, but Dis Creed is a legitimate threat to beat the favorite outright.
Ava the Gold is a significant step down in our ratings at 48.33, but in a field with several horses rated in the low-to-mid 40s and below, she stands out as the third-best option. Trainer Geovani Olalde sends her in with jockey Antonio Ambrosio Reyes, and at 8/1 she offers a bit of value if the two short-priced horses encounter trouble. A solid show ticket at a price worth having.
Race 3
Claiming · 6 1/2 fur · Dirt
Four horses are separated by single digits on TrackWiz ratings in this claiming sprint, but a subtle pace scenario and the value angle on our top pick make this one worth digging into.
American Farmer earns the top TrackWiz rating in this field at 86.35 despite going off at 7/2 — a length that suggests the crowd is leaning toward Prime Directive. Jockey Richard Balgobin picks up the mount for trainer Craig Robert Smith, and the 52 average speed figure is respectable at the claiming level over 6.5 furlongs. The rating advantage over a field where no other horse clears 87 is meaningful, and 7/2 is a touch of value on what our analysis suggests is the best horse.
Prime Directive is the morning-line favorite at 2/1 and backs it up with a TrackWiz rating of 86.15 and a 27% career win rate — the highest win percentage in this field by a notable margin. Trainer Geovani Olalde and jockey Kimal Santo form a sharp combination, and a horse that wins more than one-in-four starts deserves respect even when he's not our top selection.
Deal Em sits third in our ratings at 83.9 and carries a 55 average speed figure — the highest raw speed number in the field. Trainer Colleen O'Hagan has him in with Keimar Trotman, and at 3/1 he's comfortably priced. The speed figure edge suggests he could factor prominently if the early pace gets hot and the closers come into play.
The free portion of today's card gives you a nice cross-section of the day's action. Race 1 kicks things off in Maiden Claiming company over 6 furlongs, where El Rocknroll (2/1 ML) earns top billing with a 58.33 TrackWiz rating — modest for a maiden field, but solid enough to command respect at that price. Race 2 steps up to Maiden Special Weight, and Rock in Command draws our top call at the 6/5 morning line — a short price, but the 59.67 rating suggests the market has this one right.
The headliner of the free races is Race 3, a 6½-furlong Claiming sprint where American Farmer posts the highest TrackWiz rating of any free pick at 86.35. That's a meaningful jump in class of form relative to the other early-card horses, and at 7/2 on the morning line, there's genuine value attached to that number. On a clear, fast-playing surface like what we're expecting today, front-runners and pace-pressers tend to thrive — keep that in mind as you assess the pace scenario in each of these sprints.
