Century Downs Picks & Predictions — October 10, 2026
Bundle up, folks — it's a cold one at Century Downs today. Clear skies overhead but the thermometer is sitting at 36°F, and that kind of bite in the air can tighten up the track surface and push speed figures higher than usual. Keep that in mind as you build your tickets.
We've got a full nine-race card to dig into, ranging from a lightning-quick 400-yard quarter-horse sprint in Race 1 all the way to a pair of 1 1/8-mile Stakes showdowns in Races 4 and 5. That's quite a menu — short-course speed junkies and route specialists both get their moment today.
The headline act is Chi Chi Time, who lands on the morning line at 3/5 in the Race 4 Stakes and carries our highest TrackWiz rating on the card at 90. But there's real value to be found deeper in the card too — and that's exactly what we're here to help you find.
Best Bets
Race 1
Allowance · 400 yd · Dirt
A short-format quarter-horse sprint at 400 yards where TrackWiz ratings tell a clear story — but the morning line shows the public isn't fully sold on the top two choices, leaving some potential overlay value in the middle of the field.
Jess the Train is the class of this field by a comfortable margin, posting a TrackWiz rating of 88.83 that sits nearly 12 points clear of the second-best horse. Trained by Buckey A. Stockwell and piloted by O. Amador Hernandez, this one carries a 30% career win rate — the best among all entrants — which tells you this horse knows how to get the job done when the gate opens. At 9/5 on the morning line, you're not getting a steal, but in a 400-yard dash where the race is essentially over in seconds, trusting the top-rated, top-winning horse is the smart play. Trainer Stockwell also saddles Cyberella, suggesting this barn is confident in its stable depth today.
O Sawyer checks in with a solid 77.08 TrackWiz rating and a 21% career win rate, backing up the form with numbers that put him firmly in the second tier of this six-horse field. Trained by Wesley T. Oulton — who also runs O La Dee Da — O Sawyer is the stronger of the two Oulton entries on the ratings sheet by a wide margin. At 5/2 on the morning line, there's a reasonable case to use him underneath in exactas, especially in a short sprint where positioning at the break is everything.
Cyberella is the sneaky-interesting piece of the Stockwell double-entry, carrying a 68.1 TrackWiz rating and a 25% career win rate that matches stablemate Jess the Train's win percentage. At 6/1, there's some value here for exotic players who want to construct a wide ticket. In a 400-yard sprint, anything can happen out of the gate, and having the backup Stockwell runner on the ticket is solid insurance.
Race 2
Allowance · 6 fur · Dirt
Silent Blurr looks like a heavy numerical favorite in this five-horse allowance sprint, but two unbeaten horses — Rubies Shoes and Fivenofieldfive — bring 100% career win rates that complicate the pace picture and exotic wagering.
Silent Blurr is the easy top selection here with an 88.83 TrackWiz rating — the highest in the field — and an average speed figure of 54 to back it up. Trainer Rodney J. Cone also sends out Queen Astrid, and the fact that Cone chose Amadeo Perez for Silent Blurr suggests barn confidence in this runner as the primary threat. The 9/5 morning line is fair for a horse that has a meaningful ratings advantage and actual speed figure data, unlike two of the key rivals who are working off very limited records.
Queen Astrid, also from the Rodney J. Cone barn, sports a 62.85 rating and an average speed figure of 53 — right in range with the top pick. Keimar Trotman gets the call here, and at 3/1 on the morning line there's genuine place value for a horse who has legitimate speed figures and comes from a trainer who clearly has two live shots today. If Silent Blurr gets into early trouble or faces a pace challenge, Queen Astrid could easily be the one picking up the pieces.
Fivenofieldfive carries a 100% career win rate, which sounds impressive until you note the rating of 59 and the absence of an average speed figure — suggesting a very limited résumé. Trainer James R. Brown has Mauricio Malvaez riding stablemate Socialization while Antonio Ambrosio Reyes picks up Fivenofieldfive, an intriguing intra-barn jockey split. The 8/5 morning line feels aggressive for a horse with such an unproven record against tested rivals, but that unbeaten status keeps it relevant in the show slot for exotic builders.
Race 3
Maiden Special Weight · 6 1/2 fur · Dirt
Wide-open maiden special weight over 6½ furlongs with a large field of first-time or lightly-raced runners — none of whom have ever broken their maiden — making form figures and ratings the primary differentiators in what figures to be a wide-open affair.
Scottie J leads this maiden field by a significant margin with an 87.81 TrackWiz rating and a posted average speed figure of 53, giving him a measurable edge over the bulk of this eight-horse group. Trainer Les Marks sends him out with Richard Balgobin aboard, and despite a 0% career win rate — expected in a maiden race — the raw underlying numbers suggest this horse has been competitive without breaking through. At 5/2 on the morning line, the public has taken notice, and our analysis agrees this is the right horse to be on top.
Dark State is interesting at 2/1 on the morning line — actually favored by the oddsmakers — with a 58.33 TrackWiz rating. Trainer David Nicholson gives the mount to Keimar Trotman, and without a published average speed figure it's harder to pin down the horse's ceiling, but the public clearly has reasons to make this the morning-line favorite. The ratings gap between Dark State and Scottie J is wide enough that the place position feels like the right fit here.
Thunderstar brings a 54.17 rating and an average speed figure of 52, making it one of the few horses in this deep maiden field with both a solid rating and actual race-day speed data to lean on. Gonzalo Anderson trains this one, the same barn that sends out Alilbitshady, but Thunderstar is clearly the preferred runner based on the numbers. At 9/2, there's modest value for exotic players looking to round out a trifecta underneath the top two selections.
Our three free previews cover Races 1, 2, and 3, and they give you a solid foundation to start the day. Jess the Train opens the card in a 400-yard dirt sprint — a pure test of out-of-the-gate explosiveness, and this horse profiles well for that format at 9/5 on the morning line. In Race 2, Silent Blurr comes in with the same 9/5 line over six furlongs, and our analysis sees a pace scenario that could set things up perfectly for a closer with tactical speed. Round out the free look with Scottie J in the Race 3 Maiden Special Weight — a 5/2 morning line that represents fair value for a horse our models rate at 87.81.
The cold conditions today could be a subtle equalizer in the maiden race, where ground conditions and early energy management matter more than many bettors realize. Don't overlook that angle when you handicap Race 3 on your own.
