Woodbine Picks & Predictions — October 4, 2026

10 racesAll Woodbine picks

Sunday at Woodbine is shaping up to be a beauty. Clear skies, 63°F, and firm turf — about as good as late-season conditions get at the Rexdale oval. With October winding down the meet, connections are pointing sharp horses at this card, and the pace scenarios across the ten-race slate are genuinely compelling.

The headliner is Race 9, a turf stakes at 1 1/16 miles where King's Counsel draws top billing at 3/1 on the morning line. But there's plenty of action before we get there — a pair of 1 3/8-mile turf routes for maiden runners, a handful of claiming battles on the main track, and an optional-claiming closer on the lawn to send everyone home happy.

TrackWiz has full analysis on all ten races today. Three races are open to everyone, with our deeper card breakdown — pace projections, exotic plays, and value angles — available to subscribers.

Best Bets

Race 1

Claiming · 1 1/16 mi · Dirt

A claiming mile and a sixteenth on the Woodbine dirt where two horses separate themselves from a pedestrian field — this race shapes up as a two-horse battle with a live longshot lurking underneath.

win5Crumlin FashionML 9/5

Crumlin Fashion is the clear class of this field by TrackWiz ratings, posting an 88.83 — more than 11 points clear of the second-ranked horse. What really stands out is the 20% career win rate, easily the best in this field and a mark that screams consistency. Edgar Zenteno gets the call, and the combination of the top rating AND the top win percentage makes this a compelling chalk play at 9/5 morning line.

place4McKenzie RoadML 2/1

McKenzie Road sits second in our ratings at 77.52 and draws the morning-line second choice at 2/1, which lines up perfectly with the TrackWiz model. Austin Adams keeps the mount, and while the 12% career win rate is modest, the horse's speed figures match the field average and the connections have a solid enough book here at Woodbine.

show3Maxine MagicML 6/1

Maxine Magic is the value underneath at 6/1 on the morning line with a 54.7 TrackWiz rating — third-best in the race. Trainer Hannah C. Sprenger sends out a horse with a speed figure that matches the field average, and at those odds, Maxine Magic is worth including in the exotics as a live show play if the top two battle each other into submission.

Race 2

Maiden Special Weight · 1 3/8 mi · Turf

A maiden special weight at a lengthy 1 3/8 miles on the turf produces a wide-open contest where none of these horses have broken their maiden — look for pace scenario and raw ratings to separate the contenders.

win5No Hay DosML 3/1

No Hay Dos tops our TrackWiz ratings at 87.08 — the highest mark in this field — while going postward at a reasonable 3/1 morning line. Pietro Moran, one of the more active jockeys on the Woodbine circuit, climbs aboard for trainer Kevin Attard, a conditioner who has long been a dominant force at this track. The 1 3/8-mile turf distance suits a closer profile, and No Hay Dos's numbers suggest this horse is ready to graduate.

place3Moon ChannelML EVN

Moon Channel is the morning-line favorite at even money and posts an 83.98 TrackWiz rating — second-best in the field and close enough to No Hay Dos to make this a competitive top two. Ryan Munger rides for trainer Katerina Vassilieva, and the horse's average speed figure of 54 is the best in the field, giving Moon Channel legitimate pace credentials over this long turf route.

show4Beach FactorML 6/1

Beach Factor at 6/1 offers solid underneath value with a 65.7 TrackWiz rating and a clean profile under Rico W. Walcott. In a maiden field where no one has proven they can win, Beach Factor's rating separates the horse nicely from the bottom half of the field, making this a smart show play and an interesting exacta partner with the top two picks.

Race 3

Optional Claiming · 6 1/2 fur · Dirt

Speed figures are nearly identical across the board in this optional claiming sprint, but one horse stands well clear on overall ratings — the pace scenario could get hot early with multiple speed horses, which may set things up for the class of the field.

win3Awesome GraceML 9/5

Awesome Grace leads the TrackWiz ratings comfortably at 85.54 in a field where no other horse cracks 58. The 9/5 morning-line price is fair given that edge, and Rafael Manuel Hernandez picks up the mount for trainer Steven Chircop. The 16% career win rate is respectable, and with an average speed figure of 54 matching the top of the field, Awesome Grace profiles as the horse to beat in this 6.5-furlong optional claimer.

place1War EmperorML 5/2

War Emperor brings a massive 50% career win rate into this race, which is a number that simply cannot be ignored regardless of the rating. Trainer Barbara J. Minshall puts Daisuke Fukumoto up, and the 5/2 morning line reflects the public's respect for this horse. At 57.5 on the TrackWiz scale — second-best in the field — War Emperor looks like the logical place ticket.

show5Charming JackieML 3/1

Charming Jackie profiles as a natural underneath piece at 3/1 with a 56.67 TrackWiz rating and an eye-catching 50% career win rate. Jose Luis Campos gets the call for trainer Dale A. Desruisseaux, and if the pace gets hot early, a horse with this much winning experience could be closing into a soft pace in the final furlong. Worth including in your exotics.

Today's three free previews cover Races 1, 2, and 3 — a diverse appetizer that touches both surfaces. On the dirt, Crumlin Fashion (Race 1, 9/5) heads our morning line pick in an opening-race claiming sprint at 1 1/16 miles, and Awesome Grace (Race 3, 9/5) gets the nod in a 6 1/2-furlong optional claimer — a class-drop angle worth watching closely. In between, No Hay Dos (Race 2, 3/1) draws our top rating in a 1 3/8-mile maiden special weight on the turf, where the firm going suits closers who can settle early and pounce late.

The clear weather and dry track should keep both the dirt and turf playing honestly today — no tricky bias concerns that would throw our pace projections sideways. That's good news for our free picks, all three of which figure to run their race in a straightforward manner.
