Woodbine Picks & Predictions — September 10, 2026
It's a cloudy Thursday at Woodbine — 75°F and comfortable racing weather with the turf expected to be in good shape. Eight races are on the slate today, splitting evenly between the grass and the main track, and there's plenty to dig into whether you're here for a casual wager or grinding out exotics all afternoon.
The card kicks off with a Maiden Special Weight sprint on the turf — always a tricky opener with first-timers and lightly raced horses making handicapping a bit of an art form. From there, the dirt races take center stage with a trio of claiming events before we swing back to a turf sprint in Race 4. The back half of the card is where the sharper money figures to flow, with an Optional Claiming on the dirt and two more claiming routes capping the afternoon.

A wide-open maiden special weight on the turf sprint sees two Darwin Banach trainees dominate the TrackWiz ratings, setting up a fascinating in-barn rivalry at the top of the market.
Marvellous Marvin tops our ratings at 58.33 and draws the morning-line favoritism at 2/1, which suggests the market agrees this is his race to lose. Trainer Darwin Banach sends out two horses today, and Marvin is the one with the edge in our model. Fraser Aebly gets the call in the irons — a solid pairing for a first-out turf sprinter. With no prior speed figures on record, this is a projection play, but the overall profile is the strongest in the field.
Barnmate Ruby Rosso comes in right behind Marvin in the ratings at 57.50 and goes off at a slightly longer 5/2 on the morning line, making her an interesting place play. Pietro Moran rides for the same Banach barn, so the connections are locked in on both ends. If the race sets up with any pace pressure at all, Rosso could easily find herself in the money at a touch of value.
Permanent Access breaks from post 2 with Emma-Jayne Wilson, one of Woodbine's most accomplished riders, and a solid 56.67 TrackWiz rating puts her third in the field. Michael De Paulo is a capable conditioner who knows how to have a horse ready, and at 3/1 she's not going to light up the tote board — but as an exotic anchor she offers a reliable safety net behind the Banach duo.

This dirt-route claimer features a massive ratings gap between the top two horses and the rest of the field — Moventothecountry and McKenzie Road look like a two-horse show, with pace intrigue determining the order.
Moventothecountry is the standout in this field by a significant margin, posting a TrackWiz rating of 87.81 — a full 12+ points clear of the second-ranked horse. Jose Luis Campos picks up the mount and the morning line is a fair 5/2 for a horse this far above par. With an 11% career win rate and an average speed figure of 52, this is a horse that has shown it can perform; the class and form edge here are real.
McKenzie Road is the other genuine contender, rated 75.08 and tabbed as the 2/1 morning-line favorite. Trainer Barbara Minshall has a 13% career win rate in her runners, and Austin Adams is no stranger to the winner's circle at Woodbine. At a mile and a sixteenth on dirt, pace shape matters — if McKenzie Road stalks Moventothecountry through the turn, she's got every chance to land second money.
Makayla checks in at 68.27 on our ratings scale — third-best in the field and a reasonable 7/2 on the morning line. Trainer Kerron Palmer also has That Girl Artemus in this race, but Makayla's rating is more than 20 points better. A 6% career win rate is modest, but in a race where the top two might fight each other out, Makayla is well-positioned to pick up the pieces.

Miss Candy Girl enters as a clear class and ratings standout in this six-furlong dirt claimer, but there's real value lurking in the mid-field with a pair of overlooked runners that could complicate exacta orders.
Miss Candy Girl is the best horse in this field on paper — a 82.59 TrackWiz rating, a 16% career win rate, and an average speed figure of 54 all point to a horse that consistently performs at this level. Jeffrey Ian Alderson gets the mount for trainer David Borsk, and the 5/2 morning line reflects legitimate public respect. She breaks from the rail in a six-furlong sprint, which at Woodbine is a workable post — expect her to be forwardly placed.
Jinx Me is the value play in this race, rated 76.88 but sent off at 10/1 on the morning line — that's a significant disconnect worth exploiting in exotics. Da-Sean Zavier Gaskin takes the mount, and trainer Joseph Humber's runner shows an average speed of 54, matching the top horses in the field. If Jinx Me gets a clean trip, the price makes him a must-use in exacta and trifecta combinations.
Featherweight rounds out the TrackWiz top three with a 75.77 rating and also clocks a 54 average speed figure — right there with the leaders in raw ability. Pietro Moran rides for Santino DiPaola, and at 8/1 on the morning line, this one offers real overlay value for show bets and exotic tickets. A 4% career win rate is low, but the speed profile says the talent is there.

In Races 2 and 3, we shift to the dirt, and the numbers get a lot more convincing: Moventothecountry at 5/2 morning line and Miss Candy Girl at 5/2 are both rated well above 80 in our TrackWiz model, suggesting two solid win plays where you're not being asked to take a lot of risk for a reasonable price.
The through-line connecting these three free races is straightforward dirt form — horses that have demonstrated they can handle Woodbine's main track tend to hold their edge here, and both Moventothecountry and Miss Candy Girl fit that profile. On the turf side, bias can shift race to race, so track that rail position closely as the day develops.
