Labor Day week brings summer's last gasp to Thistledown, and the track is serving up a full 8-race card on a blazing Wednesday afternoon. Clear skies and 88°F temperatures mean the dirt strip should be fast and playing true — no excuses for connections, and no hiding from the clockers. When the surface is this firm and consistent, speed figures carry extra weight and pace scenarios tend to play out close to script.
Today's card mixes claiming and allowance company across sprint and route distances, giving us a nice range of betting angles. Three of the eight races are open to all TrackWiz readers — including a couple of sprints where we've identified some genuine overlay potential. The deeper you dig into this card, the more opportunity reveals itself.

A wide-open six-furlong claiming opener with two TrackWiz top-rated horses sitting just off the favorite's morning line — the pace scenario could sort this field out quickly.
Camp Perry is our top selection here and the numbers back it up — an 82.71 TrackWiz rating leads all horses except Triangulo Rojo, but the real selling point is a 33% career win rate that dwarfs the rest of this field. At 6/1 on the morning line, that's genuine value for a horse with that kind of closing record. Luis Raul Rivera gets the call for trainer Jeffrey A. Radosevich, a barn that also runs Sammy's Halo in this same race — when a trainer doubles up, watch which horse gets the top rider. Rivera on Camp Perry is a telling sign.
Triangulo Rojo draws the morning-line favoritism at 5/2 for a reason — a 76.36 rating and a 53 average speed figure give this horse legitimate class in a claiming field like this. Trainer Rey Juarez-Mendoza has a knack for placing horses well, and Alejandro Gomez Jr. is a capable pilot who can settle a speed horse in traffic. If Camp Perry gets loose on the front end, Triangulo Rojo figures to be right there chasing — a solid place play.
Bumper Sticker at 9/2 rounds out our exotic tickets with a 72.90 rating that holds up fine in this company. The 11% career win rate is modest, but Alexander Chavez is an aggressive rider who can manufacture a trip when the pace gets hot up front. If the early speed duel between the leaders sets up a pace collapse, Bumper Sticker is the type who can come rolling late for a piece.

A full ten-horse allowance field at six furlongs features three horses rated in the 80s, setting the table for a sharp pace battle and a potentially rewarding exotic ticket.
Sound City tops our TrackWiz ratings at 85.36 with a 53 average speed figure and trainer Timothy E. Hamm sends this horse out at a reasonable 7/2 morning line. Rocco Bowen is one of the sharper sticks in this colony and he's aboard a horse who has the figures to back up the favorite's billing. A 9% career win rate sounds modest, but allowance horses can be lightly raced with upside — the rating says the ability is there.
Big Daddy Hank at 6/1 is a genuine value play in the place spot — an 82.71 rating matches the second-best in the field and a 16% career win rate shows this horse knows how to finish. Trainer Christian Flores runs See Ya Alligator in this same race, and Big Daddy Hank draws the slightly more favorable program number for rail position. Elijah Greenidge gets the mount and should have no trouble finding a stalking spot in a field this size.
Dr Inspired is a sneaky inclusion at 8/1 — a 76.81 TrackWiz rating and an impressive 33% career win rate make this one of the best win-percentage horses in the race. Trainer Susan L. Anderson sends this one out with Jose A. Bracho up, a solid pairing. The morning line undervalues the career record here, and at those odds, Dr Inspired belongs in your trifecta combinations for sure.
Race 3

This six-furlong claimer features a clear class standout at the top of the ratings, but the morning-line favorite and our top pick are two different horses — creating a potential overlay situation worth exploiting.
Double Agent leads all horses with an 88.54 TrackWiz rating — the highest single-race rating on this card through three races — and posts at 2/1 with Rocco Bowen aboard for trainer Timothy E. Hamm. Hamm showed up with Sound City in Race 2 and now saddles Double Agent here, suggesting a productive afternoon for this barn. A 53 average speed figure matches the top of the field, and at 2/1, this horse's rating justifies the price.
My Valentino is the morning-line favorite at 9/5 and we have this one firmly in the place slot — a 77.58 rating and a 21% career win rate give it real credentials. Erik Barbaran rides for Marco Ibarra and this pair can certainly show up on the front end given My Valentino's average speed figure. If the pace is honest, this one should be in the thick of it at the wire.
Marquitos M at 7/2 earns our show nod with a 58.23 rating that places it third in this six-horse field. The 53 average speed figure is competitive, and trainer Loren Huepenbecker has this one sitting at a fair price. T.D. Houghton takes the mount — in a short field like this, you don't need much to hit the board, and Marquitos M has the numbers to sneak into a trifecta.
Our three free previews today are all 6-furlong dirt sprints — a format that rewards speed and clean trips, and one where our pace models tend to shine. Camp Perry opens the card at a morning line of 6/1 in Race 1, and that kind of price on an 82-rated horse in a claiming sprint is worth a close look. In Race 2, Sound City steps into allowance company at 7/2 and posts the kind of rating (85+) that regularly contends at this level. The headliner of the free races is Race 3, where Double Agent carries our highest public-facing rating of the day at 88.54 — and yet the morning line is sitting at a very fair 2/1. When our top-rated horse is also a realistic overlay candidate, that's the kind of alignment that gets us excited before the first bugle call.
One theme connecting all three free picks: each figures to benefit from a fast, dry surface that rewards horses who can establish position early and hold form. Keep an eye on how the first couple of races play out — if early speed is winning and winning cleanly, that's a strong signal heading into the rest of the afternoon.
