Thistledown Picks & Predictions — June 15, 2026

8 racesThistledown

It's a cool, cloudy Monday at Thistledown — 62°F with overcast skies keeping the track honest and the speed figures reliable. Eight races on the dirt, stretching from a quick 5½-furlong sprint all the way out to a pair of one-mile routes, giving you a full menu of betting opportunities whether you're a casual fan or a serious ticket-builder.

The card leans heavily on Claiming and Allowance company, which means pace scenarios matter a lot today. When the class is tight, small edges — post position, recent form, trainer moves — tend to show up loud in the results. TrackWiz analysis has flagged some sharp angles across the card worth watching closely.

Three races are open to all readers. Races 4 through 8 are reserved for TrackWiz subscribers, and trust us — there's some real meat on those bones.

Best Bets

Race 1

Claiming · 1 mi · Dirt

A clear class standout emerges in this one-mile dirt claimer, but the middle of the field is tightly bunched on ratings and could make things interesting in the stretch.

win6Lady JasperML 5/2

Lady Jasper tops the TrackWiz ratings at 87.81 and carries the highest career win percentage in the field at 21% — that combination of raw ability and proven closing efficiency is hard to argue with. She's been assigned to Erik Barbaran, who has a strong book of horses today at Thistledown. At 5/2 on the morning line, she's not a gift price, but the ratings edge over her nearest rivals is significant enough to justify making her your anchor. When the top-rated horse also has the best win percentage, you play her.

place5QueenofthebuckeyeML 7/2

Queenofthebuckeye (No. 5) posts a TrackWiz rating of 79.93 and owns a 19% career win rate — second-best in the field. The Skerrett family connection (trained by Jeffrey Skerrett, ridden by Jefferson Skerrett) often signals a horse that will be ridden aggressively and given every chance. At 7/2 on the morning line, she's a natural place backup behind the top choice.

show7Chanel SpiritML 9/2

Chanel Spirit at 9/2 slots in with a 75.25 TrackWiz rating and an avg speed figure of 52, matching the group of contenders. Trainer Robert C. Cline is a familiar name on this card and knows what this horse needs. Luis Antonio Gonzalez handles the riding duties, and at nearly 5-1 morning-line odds, including Chanel Spirit in your exacta and trifecta coverage costs you very little while adding a live show option.

Race 2

Allowance · 1 mi · Dirt

The morning-line favorite and the TrackWiz top-rated horse are the same horse here — but a high-rated 25% career winner lurking just off the pace could push this allowance mile into a genuine two-horse battle.

win6DuoML 9/5

Duo (No. 6) leads all comers with a TrackWiz rating of 88.83 and is already installed as the 9/5 morning-line choice. Trainer Michelle Winters has a horse pointing here, and Alexander Chavez takes the mount — a solid combination. The one wrinkle is a 4% career win rate, which suggests Duo may be talented but has had trouble converting. That said, the rating margin over the field is the biggest of the card so far, and one-mile dirt allowances can play right into a horse with raw ability.

place1EstoicoML 5/1

Estoico (No. 1) has the second-best TrackWiz rating at 82.09 and a career win percentage of 25% — by far the highest in this field. That win rate tells you he knows how to finish. Erik Barbaran, who also has the mount in Race 1, brings a live book today. At 5/1 on the morning line, Estoico offers genuine place value if Duo underperforms on that career win metric.

show3CaloreseML 7/2

Calorese (No. 3) sits third in TrackWiz ratings at 58.56 and is trained by Jeffrey A. Radosevich, who runs a strong barn at Thistledown. The 5% career win rate is low, but in an allowance context some horses take time to break through, and the rating suggests underlying ability. At 7/2 morning-line odds, he's a reasonable show ticket and a live exotic piece if the top two split early.

Race 3

Maiden Special Weight · 1 mi · Dirt

Maiden Special Weight at a mile on dirt with a full field of winless horses — the morning-line and TrackWiz ratings don't align, which is exactly where the value hunt gets interesting.

win6Isa FortressML 4/1

Isa Fortress (No. 6) tops the TrackWiz ratings at 67.58 despite being posted at 4/1 on the morning line — a mild overlay relative to her rating position. She shares a trainer with the morning-line favorite (Richard J. Rettele also trains Midnite Kings Fate), so this barn clearly has a presence in the race. T.D. Houghton gets the call, and at a mile on dirt, Isa Fortress's avg speed figure of 52 ties with several rivals but her rating edge gives her the nod. First-time winners in maiden special weight races can come from anywhere, but the numbers point here.

place5Sweet VivianML 8/5

Sweet Vivian (No. 5) is the 8/5 morning-line choice and carries a TrackWiz rating of 64.33 — close enough to Isa Fortress that she'll be very tough in any exacta combination. David J. Haldar rides, and trainer Joseph M. Poole is comfortable with maiden routes. The pace-stalking or front-running profile that typically suits a betting favorite could set up a wire-to-wire effort if she breaks cleanly.

show1Midnite Kings FateML 2/1

Midnite Kings Fate (No. 1) is the 2/1 morning-line co-favorite with a TrackWiz rating of 58.33 and an avg speed of 52. Trainer Richard J. Rettele, as noted, also runs Isa Fortress — but that dual-barn presence can mean both horses fire on the same day. Anthony Rodriguez gets the mount, and with inside post position on the rail at a mile, Midnite Kings Fate could get a ground-saving trip and sneak into the superfecta conversation at very manageable odds.

The first three races give us a nice cross-section of today's card. In Race 1, Lady Jasper (morning line 5/2, TrackWiz rating 87.81) tops our Claiming mile, and at that price she represents genuine value if she gets the right pace setup. Race 2 flips to Allowance company at the same distance, where Duo (9/5 ML, rating 88.83) earns our highest free-race rating of the day — the favorite tag is deserved here, but dig into the pace projection before you blindly follow the chalk. Then Race 3 is the wild card: a Maiden Special Weight at a mile, where Isa Fortress at 4/1 carries a lower rating (67.58) that reflects the genuine uncertainty of maiden fields, but the morning line tells us the connections think this one is ready.

The cool, cloudy conditions shouldn't dramatically alter surface behavior today, but keep an eye on how the early races play out — if front-runners are holding on through the stretch in those one-mile routes, that's a bias worth pressing in the sprint races later in the card.
