Race 2 takes us to the route with Strike Appeal (5/2 morning line, 87.81 rating) in the Starter Optional Claiming mile, where pace shape should set up nicely for a presser. Then Race 3 brings the day's first allowance test, and Excitement stands out at 2/1 with our highest free-race rating of 88.54 — a horse that looks like the class of the field on current form.

With the track expected to be consistent under overcast skies, early speed hasn't been artificially pumped up by a drying-out surface. Watch for horses that can stalk and pounce in the sprints — that shape is likely to be rewarded today.
