Prairie Meadows is open for business on a cool, cloudy Thursday — 68°F and overcast, the kind of September afternoon in Iowa that tends to keep the track playing honest and fast. In a maiden field where nobody has broken their duck yet, the edge in raw numbers matters more than in open company. Trainer Dan L. McFarlane sends this one in with a clear rating advantage, and we're following that signal.
Step That Way (No. 4) holds the second-highest TrackWiz rating at 55.0 and is one of only two horses in the field cracking the 55-point threshold. Alex Birzer has the mount for Todd James Jordan, and at 4/1 on the morning line, there's enough overlay potential to make this worth including in exactas beneath Danzing Mist. The average speed of 52 is a tick below the leaders, but the overall rating profile suggests a horse who can settle into a top-two or three finish.
Risky Mistress sits third in the TrackWiz ratings at 54.06, effectively in a cluster with Step That Way just behind Danzing Mist. Ken S. Tohill rides for David D. McShane, a barn that knows this circuit. At 5/2 on the morning line, the public likely has this one in their win bets — but in a maiden race with a dominant top choice, she makes more sense as a place/show piece in trifecta construction.

Lunatic Friends is the class of this field by multiple measures: a 76.52 TrackWiz rating is the best in the race, and that 40% career win rate stands out sharply in a claiming field where most horses land between 8% and 23%. Glenn W. Corbett takes the mount for trainer Kevin Eikleberry, and at 4/1 on the morning line, this is a price worth respecting on a horse that clearly knows how to finish first. The average speed of 55 matches the field's best — there's no flaw in the profile here.
La Fee's Secret (No. 8) is the sneaky value angle in this spot, posting a 69.67 TrackWiz rating — fourth-best in the field — while sitting all the way out at 12/1 on the morning line. Israel Hernandez picks up the mount for Brandi Jo Fett, and the 12% career win rate suggests a horse who has competed at this level with some success. In a nine-horse field where the favorite is well-established, the underneath exotics featuring La Fee's Secret could pay handsomely.
Razor Wire opens at 15/1 but carries a 69.58 TrackWiz rating — virtually identical to La Fee's Secret and higher than the morning-line favorite Golden Biz. Freddy J tops the TrackWiz ratings at 87.81 — the highest number in the field and nearly 3 points above Morning Cup. Kevin Roman gets the mount for trainer Tanner Tracy, and the 5/2 morning line reflects a public that sees value without going crazy short. The average speed of 55 is among the field's best, and a 14% career win rate in claiming company is respectable. This is the kind of horse that wins these races when the top rating holds up — and at 5/2, you're getting a fair price.
Morning Cup ran the morning line favorite's number (9/5) and sports an 84.84 TrackWiz rating — second only to Freddy J. Israel Hernandez handles this one for Jon G. Arnett, a trainer who is active on this card. The 18% career win rate is actually the strongest of the top two contenders, and at 9/5, the public clearly respects this horse as the win threat. Race 2 brings Lunatic Friends at a generous 4/1 morning line; that's the kind of overlay that gets our attention in a six-furlong claiming sprint where pace can get messy in a hurry. Then Race 3 is where things really sharpen up — Freddy J carries an 87.81 TrackWiz rating, the highest of the free races, and a 5/2 morning line that looks like it could compress fast once the money starts flowing. He's the anchor of the early card.
