Prairie Meadows Picks & Predictions — July 18, 2026
Prairie Meadows is rolling out a full 10-race card on Saturday, and the conditions are about as close to ideal as you'll get in an Iowa July — partly cloudy skies and 87°F with no rain in the picture. A fast, consistent dirt surface is expected all day, which means speed figures should translate cleanly and front-runners will have every opportunity to wire the field.
The card is a nice mix — you've got quick-burst Quarter Horse sprints kicking things off in the early races, a couple of solid 6-furlong Claiming battles dominating the mid-card, and a Stakes race at a mile and 70 yards to close out the highlight portion of the afternoon. There's something here for every type of bettor, from the casual fan looking to cash a win ticket to the serious player building exotic combinations.

Maiden Claiming · 300 yd · Dirt
Tony Dean Jones sends out two live arrows in this 300-yard maiden claimer, and his barn could easily run 1-2 — but the question is which one fires first.
Ts East Trick (3) tops our TrackWiz ratings at 88.83 — the highest mark in the field by a meaningful margin — and gets the call from Armando Alvidrez, a capable hand in short-course sprints. In a 300-yard dash, gate speed and early burst are everything, and our model grades this one as the most explosive opener in the field. Trained by Tony Dean Jones, who clearly has a strong string today, Ts East Trick is our top selection even at the short 9/5 morning line.
Jess Praising Him (2) checks in with an 80.47 TrackWiz rating — second best in the field — and also runs for the Tony Dean Jones barn, giving the connections a powerful one-two punch. At 8/5 on the morning line, there's not much place value here, but if you're constructing exactas, pairing the two Jones runners makes plenty of sense given the barn's obvious quality edge today.
Lil Kool Lightning (6) is the logical third wheel in this race, posting a 59.80 rating that clearly separates it from the bottom half of the field. Trainer Alex Wessels has this one priced at 9/2 on the morning line, which represents the best value of the top three — and in a chaotic 300-yard scramble where gate miscues can reshuffle everything, having a 9/2 shot show up on your ticket is a nice hedge.

Claiming · 350 yd · Dirt
Toorelentlesstoquit owns the top rating in this 350-yard claiming sprint, but don't overlook Trs Snot Nose Kid as a sneaky place threat at 8/1.
Toorelentlesstoquit (3) leads all horses in our ratings at 86.34 and gets the hometown advantage of Ryder Olmstead in the irons — trained by Jason L. Olmstead, this is a family operation that knows this horse well. The 5/2 morning line is fair, and in a 350-yard dash where the edge often goes to the most physically gifted sprinter, this one profiles as the clear class of the field. An 8% career win rate is modest, but our model sees the upside here.
Trs Snot Nose Kid (5) is the standout value angle in this race — an 8/1 morning line horse with a 79.79 TrackWiz rating that slots it squarely in the top tier. Also trained by Alex Wessels, who saddles two horses today, this one is sneakily dangerous if the favorite gets anything but a clean trip out of the gate. The place pool could be generous here.
Bv Darling Marfa (2) carries a 78.26 rating and a 9% career win percentage — respectable numbers for a claiming sprint. Fernando Fonseca-Soto takes the mount for trainer Robert Don Johnson, and at 9/2 the price is workable for show tickets or trifecta coverage. In a race where the top three in our ratings are tightly bunched, this one is close enough to the pace to hit the board.

Maiden · 300 yd · Dirt
A wide-open nine-horse maiden field at 300 yards, with Tony Dean Jones again holding a two-horse advantage and a pair of big ratings at the top.
I Be Moonin You (2) posts an 87.32 TrackWiz rating — best in the field — and ships in for trainer Manuel Mojica Campos with Giovany Estrada up. The 5/2 morning line reflects the market's respect, and in a field where the gap between the top and bottom is enormous, this one stands apart. In a 300-yard sprint, natural speed is the separator, and our model grades I Be Moonin You as having the most of it.
Lil Cool Chuparrosa (6) is a value play here at 8/1 on the morning line despite posting a 79.79 rating — good enough for second in the field. Armando Alvidrez takes the mount for the Tony Dean Jones barn, which already has a win pick in Race 1 and continues to show depth today. The disconnect between this horse's rating and its morning line odds makes it an attractive place or exotic play.
Miss Kissem (9) is the show pick here at 12/1, and at that price it's a legitimate exotic play. The 66.13 rating from Angel O. Ramirez and trainer Alex Wessels puts this one in a competitive range, and in a nine-horse field where chaos is almost guaranteed off the gate, a double-digit price hitting the board is absolutely a scenario worth a few dollars.
The opening trio of races gives us a terrific sampler of what Prairie Meadows does best in the summer — short, explosive Quarter Horse sprints on a firm dirt strip. Our top picks in Races 1 through 3 are Ts East Trick (Race 1, 9/5 morning line, TrackWiz rating 88.83), Toorelentlesstoquit (Race 2, 5/2, 86.34), and I Be Moonin You (Race 3, 5/2, 87.32). All three land near or at the top of their respective fields on our model, and in 300-350 yard sprints, there's very little margin for error — the horse that breaks cleanly and hits top speed first is almost always the one cashing the ticket.
One angle worth noting across these early sprints: with consistent warm, dry conditions keeping the surface playing fast, first-jump quickness becomes even more of a premium. Watch the gate closely. Any runner that shows a clean break in the warm-up should be treated as a live threat, even at longer odds.
