Prairie Meadows Picks & Predictions — July 4, 2026
Happy Fourth of July from Prairie Meadows — and what better way to celebrate than a 10-race card under partly cloudy skies with temperatures sitting at a comfortable 83°F. Conditions look ideal for a fast, consistent dirt track, so expect speed figures to hold up throughout the afternoon.
Today's card is a real mixed bag in the best possible way. The early races feature quick-burst Quarter Horse sprints — we're talking 330 and 350 yards — before transitioning into Thoroughbred routes capped by a one-mile closer in Race 10. Stakes money is on the line in Race 3, and a Futurity in Race 4 gives us a look at some of the most promising young horses running in Iowa right now.
Three races are unlocked and free for every TrackWiz reader, covering the first three races on the card. The remaining seven require a premium subscription — and trust us, the back half of this card is where some of the most interesting angles live.
Best Bets
Race 1
Allowance · 350 yd · Dirt
One horse towers over this allowance sprint — Ajs Favorite Ia looks like a buzz saw at 3/5 — but the secondary spots are worth fighting over with some live prices underneath.
Ajs Favorite Ia is the easiest top pick of the card. A TrackWiz rating of 90 — the ceiling in this field — pairs with a jaw-dropping 60% career win rate, and trainer Alex Wessels has two other horses in this very race, a sign the barn is locked in on the evening. At 3/5 on the morning line, the payout won't excite, but the horse's profile says it's the right call.
Foxy Cowgirl at 9/2 is the clear second choice and deserves to be. Her 41% career win rate is the second-best figure in the field, and a TrackWiz rating of 78.15 puts real distance between her and the rest of the pack below. Angel O. Ramirez gets the call, and in a race this short — just 350 yards — gate presence and jockey experience matter.
Call a Runaway at 5/1 slots in as our show selection with a rating of 45.17, ahead of the remaining threats. Trainer David D. McShane keeps a competitive barn and Alfredo Triana Jr. — one of the busier riders on the card tonight — handles the mount. In a field where the top two horses absorb most of the money, a 5/1 show tab has real appeal in exacta and trifecta construction.
Race 2
Maiden · 330 yd · Dirt
An eight-horse maiden dash at 330 yards with no career winners in the field — it's a guessing game on paper, but TrackWiz ratings point to a genuine top-three cluster separating itself from the rest.
Kiss Me to the Moon earns the top pick at a juicy 9/2 morning line, posting the field's highest TrackWiz rating at 84.9 in a race where the public will likely hammer the 6/5 shot. Trainer Alex Wessels is saddling multiple horses tonight and clearly knows how to condition a quarter-type sprinter for Prairie Meadows. With Miguel Josue Ramirez up, the talent-to-odds ratio makes this the most interesting win bet on the race.
Th Alota Rip comes in as the morning-line favorite at 6/5 with a rating of 84.74 — nearly identical to Kiss Me to the Moon, which is what makes this race so intriguing. Trainer Manuel Mojica Campos runs three horses tonight, and Alfredo Triana Jr. doesn't waste his time on longshots. If the public installs Th Alota Rip as favorite and it fires, it'll be a short price — place coverage makes more sense than chasing the win.
I Be Moonin You at 3/1 is the most straightforward price in the trifecta for this race, carrying a solid 76.8 rating and a morning line that suggests the oddsmakers respect it. Trainer Manuel Mojica Campos saddles this one too, giving the barn a dominant presence in the top tier. Show coverage at 3/1 in a wide-open maiden is a sensible hedge, especially with the top two so tightly matched.
Race 3
Stakes · 350 yd · Dirt
Stakes company at 350 yards and Jason L. Olmstead has loaded the boat with four starters — the trainer angle is hard to ignore, but it's one of his runners in particular who separates from the pack on the numbers.
Lovlee tops the TrackWiz ratings in this stakes field at 87.08 and goes at a fair 3/1 morning line with Ramiro Haro Garcia aboard. Trainer Olmstead sends out four horses in this race, and Lovlee draws the best number of the group — that internal barn separation matters when a barn floods a field. Stakes-level horses showing this kind of rating edge in a nine-horse field deserve serious respect.
Urban Cowboy 123 is another Olmstead runner, coming in with an 83.4 rating and the services of Alfredo Triana Jr. — the most active and accomplished jock on the card tonight. At 9/2, there's enough price here to make place wagering worthwhile, and the fact that Triana picks this horse out of four Olmstead options is a meaningful signal. In stakes sprints, jockey choice within a barn can tell you plenty.
Tnr Aunt G at 10/1 is the longshot angle hiding in the show slot — a 76.88 rating is quietly competitive in this field, and trainer Jose Ibarra keeps a tidy operation. Luis Luna Ramirez handles the mount and knows this track well. In a race where Olmstead's barn dominates the win pool, a horse from outside the powerhouse stable sneaking into exotics at double-digit odds is worth a sprinkle in the trifecta.
Our three free races set the tone nicely. In Race 1, the allowance sprinter Ajs Favorite Ia comes in as a heavy 3/5 morning-line favorite with a TrackWiz rating of 90 — the top mark on the entire card. Short-priced, yes, but the rating backs up the chalk. Race 2 opens the maiden ranks over 330 yards, where Kiss Me to the Moon catches our eye at 9/2 on the morning line — that's the kind of odds that represent real value when our model grades her at 84.9. Then Race 3 steps things up with a Stakes sprint, and Lovlee at 3/1 looks like a prime play in a competitive field.
With the track playing fast today, early speed should be at a premium in these short sprints. All three of our free top picks profile as horses that can get out of the gate cleanly — which in a 330 or 350-yard race, is often the whole ballgame. Use these races to get your bearings on the pace of the track before diving into the deeper card.
