Late Spring Night is our best bet among today's free plays — a dirt sprinter heading into Race 5 who has hit the board in four straight and in four of his last six, the kind of consistency that jumps off the page in a 5½-furlong claiming sprint. At 4/1 on the morning line, there's real value here if the field sets up the way our TrackWiz sims project.
The scene at Mountaineer: cloudy skies, 58°F, and eight races split across dirt and turf. Two of the first two go on the grass, so keep an eye on how that turf is playing early — a cool November afternoon can soften things up and shift the advantage toward horses with turf form or good tactical speed. Three races are free for all readers, five are reserved for premium subscribers.
The card mixes maiden claimers, starter allowances, and a ratings handicap that shapes up as the afternoon's marquee event. There's enough variety here to build multi-race sequences, and our full-card analysis has the ticket breakdowns to match.

Maiden Claiming · 5 fur · Turf
A wide-open maiden claimer on the turf where the top-rated horse owns a significant class edge — Mykonos drops sharply from $50k company — but the entire field is unproven stylistically, leaving the pace scenario a genuine mystery.
Mykonos is the class standout here by a comfortable margin, carrying the top TrackWiz rating of 88.54 in a field where nobody else cracks 84. That big claiming price drop — from $50,000 down to $15,000 — is the kind of move that gets your attention, and the recent race speed ranks first in this field at 11.76 sec/furlong. Jockey Luis Negron has posted a 24% win rate and hit the board 55% of the time over the past year. Our simulations handed Mykonos the win in 31% of 10,000 runs, making this a deserving favorite.
Finn d'Oro is a sneaky-solid underlier despite a concerning claiming price jump from $4,000 to $15,000 — that's a big leap in tag. What keeps this horse in the conversation is consistency: placed in all six of its recent starts and hit the board in seven of ten tries at Mountaineer specifically. A TrackWiz rating of 83.19 (second in the field) and a 42% in-the-money career rate suggest this horse knows how to finish.
Super Smooth is on the morning line at 3/1 and slots third in our ratings at 73.14, though the recent form is spotty — only one placing in the last six starts is a real red flag. The 20% jockey win rate from Deshawn Parker and a recent race speed ranking of third in the field (12.71 sec/furlong) provide some cushion, and the sim model gave this horse a 20.71% win share, close to its morning line. Include in exotics but eyes open on that form slump.
