Saturday night racing at the Meadowlands — there's nothing quite like it. Six races are on the board tonight under partly cloudy skies, with temperatures sitting at a comfortable 67°F. Conditions are about as close to ideal as you'll get for a September turf card in New Jersey, and our models flagged this as one of the better-structured nights of racing at the Big M this fall.

When an entire card runs over one surface in similar conditions, the pace scenarios tighten up and the handicapping gets sharper. That's good news for bettors willing to dig in.

Twin Lights is the class of this maiden field by a significant margin — a TrackWiz rating of 88.54 is the highest in the race and nearly 20 points clear of the next-best contender, Draft Riots. Trainer Eddie Owens, Jr. sends her out with Jorge A. Vargas, Jr. in the irons, a pairing worth watching in a maiden spot on the turf. She posted an average speed figure of 53, matching several rivals, but the overall profile suggests she's operating on a different level than most of this group. At 2/1 on the morning line, she's not a hidden gem, but the rating gap justifies making her the top selection.
Draft Riots draws the 8/5 morning-line favoritism, and it's not hard to see why — trainer Wayne Potts sends her out with a posted avg speed of 54, the highest in the field, and her TrackWiz rating of 68.03 is comfortably ahead of the mid-pack. The pace scenario over 5 furlongs on turf should play to her advantage if she breaks alertly with Martina Rojas. She's the most likely horse to be collecting a check, even if Twin Lights has the edge at the top.
Better Day is the sneaky inclusion here at 10/1 on the morning line — a TrackWiz rating of 57.19 leads everyone outside the top two picks, and her avg speed of 53 is right in line with much of the field. Trainer Robert A. Werneth keeps her competitive in a maiden field where a quarter of the horses have no speed figure history at all. At double-digit odds, she's a legitimate show play and worth including in the exacta underneath.
Race 2
Claiming · 1 mi · Turf
Two horses — Garage Beers and Brockton — separate themselves from a muddling claiming field on the turf mile, setting up a potential pace duel that could leave room for a closer to steal a piece.
Garage Beers comes in with an 85.62 TrackWiz rating, the top mark in this field, and backs it up with a career win rate of 11% and an avg speed of 54 — among the best in the race. Trainer Elisha Perez puts Julio A. Hernandez on board, a jockey who has been active throughout this card, and the turf mile distance looks like a fit based on the overall profile. The 4/1 morning line offers a touch of value for what appears to be the dominant horse on paper.
Brockton is the logical foil at 3/1, posting the field's best average speed figure of 55 and matching Garage Beers on career win rate at 11%. Trainer Brandon L. Kulp puts Eliseo Ruiz up, and Brockton's class profile in this claiming event makes him more than a consolation play — he's a legitimate threat to go wire to wire if the pace sets up right. The place slot is where our analysis lands him, but he could easily flip the script.
Bliss Street at 10/1 is the value angle in the exotics here. Her TrackWiz rating of 69.03 ranks third in the field despite being ignored by the morning line, and while her avg speed of 51 is on the lower end, Ramon F. Moya has ridden live horses on this card before. A career win rate of 10% in a claiming field suggests she's competitive enough to hit the board at a price that makes the show investment worthwhile.
Race 3
Claiming · 1 mi · Turf
A tight claiming mile on the turf features a photo finish on paper at the top, with I'm Due and T V Man separated by less than a point on the TrackWiz ratings — expect a genuine battle for supremacy.
I'm Due edges out T V Man in our ratings by the slimmest of margins — 86.35 to 85.66 — but sometimes slim margins are all that matters. She carries an avg speed of 54 and an 8% career win rate, and trainer Michelle Castillo puts the capable Julio A. Hernandez on her back for the turf mile. The 7/2 morning line is fair, and in a field where the top two horses are essentially deadlocked on paper, that's actually modest value for the top-rated horse.
T V Man is the morning-line co-favorite at 5/2 and nearly identical to I'm Due on every meaningful metric — a 53 avg speed, a 7% career win rate, and a rating just a hair below the top pick. Trainer James A. Frangella, Jr. runs him back on a surface where his numbers profile well, and Eliseo Ruiz gets the call. If I'm Due gets shuffled in traffic on the turf mile, T V Man is the horse most likely to steal the win — making the place slot feel almost conservative.
Atomico at 8/1 is worth a look underneath, sporting a TrackWiz rating of 77.11 that's clearly third-best in this field despite being dismissed by the oddsmakers. He matches the top contenders on avg speed at 54 and carries an 8% career win rate, so he's no stranger to cashing tickets. Trainer Robert A. Wolfe, Jr. fields him with Pedro L. Cotto, Jr., and in a turf mile where pace can get messy, Atomico's profile screams potential sneaky closer.
Tonight's free races give you plenty to work with right out of the gate. Twin Lights opens the card in a maiden claiming sprint on the turf — five furlongs is short enough that pace will be everything, and Twin Lights carries our top TrackWiz rating of the free portion of the card at 88.54. In Race 2, Garage Beers stretches the action out to a mile against claimers, coming in at 4/1 on the morning line with a solid 85.62 rating. And in Race 3, I'm Due posts a 7/2 morning line and an 86.35 rating — a hair better than Garage Beers — making that race the one to watch if you're building a Pick 3 from the top of the card.
With all three free races running on a turf course that should be playing consistently in the cool September air, watch for horses that can settle just off a contested pace and pounce in the stretch. The mile trips in Races 2 and 3 especially favor closers on a night like this, when front-runners might get pressured and tire late. Keep that pace angle in mind as you build your tickets.
