Los Alamitos Quarter Horse Picks & Predictions — October 10, 2026
We're headed to Los Alamitos on a comfortable Saturday afternoon — cloudy skies, 76°F, and a tight 8-race card built around the explosive burst speed that makes quarter horse racing unlike anything else in the sport. If you've never watched a 300-yard race, just know that the whole thing is over in about 15 seconds. Blink and you miss it. That's the fun.
Today's card mixes a trio of claiming sprints to kick things off before shifting into the pure quarter horse distances — 300 yards, 350 yards, and a marquee 440-yard Invitational Stakes to close out the night. Eight races, legitimate contenders throughout, and a card that offers plenty of angles for casual bettors and serious players alike.
TrackWiz has broken down every race. The first three are on us — free, no login required. Races 4 through 8 are in the full premium breakdown, including that Invitational where Empressum shows up as the horse to beat.

Race 1

The TrackWiz model sees a clear top-end separation in this 4.5-furlong claimer, with the morning line favorite flying under the radar at 4/1 while two underlays crowd the bottom of the board.
Omemgee tops our TrackWiz ratings at 85.62 — a significant edge over every rival in this field — and draws the rail in a short-field sprint where gate position matters. At 4/1 on the morning line, there's genuine value here given how far the rating gap stretches to the next contender. Trainer Jesus J. Uranga and jockey Salvador R. Vargas team up, and at 4.5 furlongs on dirt, you want horses that break sharp and rate well — the numbers say this one qualifies.
Fairlawns Way opens at 6/1 despite a TrackWiz rating of 79.77 — second best in the field — and sports a solid 20% career win rate, which is elite company for a claimer at this level. The morning line underestimates this one, and trainer Charles S. Treece has a horse that profiles as a closer or stalker who could be sitting second or third at the turn before pouncing. At the price, Fairlawns Way is a strong candidate to hit the board and pay well in exactas.
Jager Angel grades out third in the TrackWiz model at 70.94 and checks in at 3/1 on the morning line, making her the likely second choice in the wagering. The concerning note is a 2% career win rate, which is unusually low, but for exotic purposes — especially in the show spot — she has the raw rating to be competitive against this group. Cristobal Herrera picks up the mount, and in a field without an overwhelming pace horse, Jager Angel has the class profile to at least fill out the ticket.
Race 2
Claiming · 4 1/2 fur · Dirt
Drop the Bit owns the top TrackWiz rating but faces a legitimately competitive mid-field in this 4.5-furlong claimer, with Summer Haze's eye-popping 37% career win rate making this more than a one-horse race.
Drop the Bit leads the TrackWiz model at 86.35 and draws a favorable middle gate in program slot 4 for trainer Angela Maria Aquino, who also saddles Mischief's King. What stands out beyond the raw rating is the 20% career win figure — solid but not flashy — which tells us this horse has shown up before and knows how to finish. At 7/2 on the morning line, the price reflects a genuine contender rather than a runaway chalk, and Henry Reynoso Lopez gets the call in what should be a forward-pressing pace scenario.
Summer Haze is the horse that makes you look twice: a 37% career win rate is the best in the field by a wide margin, and the TrackWiz rating of 75.12 backs that up as a legitimate second-tier contender. Francisco Monroy has been busy on this card, and trainer Sheldon W. Paldanius has a horse that clearly knows how to find the wire. The 3/1 morning line makes this one borderline short for a place bet, but in exotics, Summer Haze is a must-use underneath.
Lord Dunmore is our show pick at a very generous 10/1 morning line, and the TrackWiz rating of 69.22 says he belongs in the mix even if the public overlooks him. Trainer Adan Farias also conditions Perfecto Amor in this same race, and while barn entries can be tricky, Lord Dunmore grades out significantly higher and carries an 18% career win rate. For players building wide exotics, this is the kind of overlaid board price that can turn a modest exacta into a real score.
Race 3
Claiming · 4 1/2 fur · Dirt
A nine-horse claimer with a legitimate top-rated standout and a wide-open battle for the remaining spots — pace will be quick from the gate and the back half of this field has a real shot to scramble the exotics.
Crypto Craze sits atop our TrackWiz model at 85.62 — matching the top mark from Race 1 — and brings a 25% career win rate that speaks to consistency at this level. From post 8, jockey Salvador R. Vargas will need to navigate some early traffic in a nine-horse field at 4.5 furlongs, but the rating advantage is significant enough to overcome a wide draw at this sprint distance. Trainer Jesus J. Uranga conditions this one, and he's represented again on the card — a good sign that the barn is live and engaged.
Voucher rates out second in the field at 72.45 and comes in at a fair 5/1 on the morning line with an 18% career win rate, making this a legitimate each-way play. Henry Reynoso Lopez climbs aboard for trainer Angela Maria Aquino — the same barn that conditions Seige the Day in this same race — but Voucher is the clearly preferred runner by the numbers. In a nine-horse sprint where the pace figures to be honest, a horse rated this highly is a strong candidate to run into the exacta.
Smiling Jojo opens at 3/1 — making him likely the second choice behind our top pick — and grades out at 65.99 in the TrackWiz model with a 13% career win figure. Trainer Rolando Quinonez conditions this one and Armando Aguilar gets the call, a reliable combination for a front-runner or presser type at a short sprint distance. For those playing the trifecta, Smiling Jojo is a sensible anchor in the third slot against a field that has several question marks farther down the ratings.
The opening three races are all 4½-furlong claiming sprints on the dirt — essentially a mini-series of conventional Thoroughbred sprints before the card transitions to pure quarter horse distances. On a mild, cloudy day like today, we're not seeing any obvious weather-driven surface bias, so pace scenario and class are doing the heavy lifting in our analysis. Omemgee (R1, 4/1 morning line, 85.62 TrackWiz rating) gets us started, followed by Drop the Bit (R2, 7/2) — our highest-rated free pick of the trio at 86.35 — and Crypto Craze (R3, 4/1) to round out the claiming sprint sequence.
What ties these three together is class positioning — all three top picks carry profiles that suggest they're competing at the right level today. Drop the Bit's rating edge is small but meaningful in short fields where every point matters. Don't overthink the claiming tier; lean on our ratings and look for spots where the morning line gives you a shade of value.
