Lethbridge RMTC Picks & Predictions — October 12, 2026
It's a chilly October afternoon at Lethbridge RMTC — 39°F under partly cloudy skies — and eight races are lined up on the dirt to keep things interesting. The footing should be solid despite the cold, and that could favor horses who like to roll early and control the pace from the front.
The card has some real teeth to it. You've got a mix of claiming, allowance, and stakes action, including two stakes races closing out the afternoon in Races 7 and 8. Stakes days at Lethbridge bring out sharper competition and sharper bettors, so if you're looking for overlays, the mid-card allowance races are where value tends to hide.
TrackWiz has rated all eight races, and there's a clear standout on the card — Jacrodra's Devil in Race 7 carries our highest rating of the day at 89.12 and gets sent off as the morning-line favorite at 8/5. We'll get to that one, but don't sleep on the earlier races building up to it.

Race 1
Claiming · 5 1/2 fur · Dirt
Lovely John towers over this 5.5-furlong dirt claimer on TrackWiz ratings, but the morning line favorite Saxon Saga and a cluster of horses with legitimate career win percentages make the underneath spots competitive.
Lovely John lands at the top of our ratings sheet with an 87.08 — a significant gap over the rest of the field. Trainer Travis Robson and jockey Blandford Stewart team up in the one-hole, giving them a clean run from the rail. At 3/1 on the morning line, this is one of those cases where our top-rated horse is also offering fair value — not a chalk play you have to agonize over.
Saxon Saga opened as the 9/5 morning-line favorite, which tells you the public likes him, but our analysis slots him second behind Lovely John with a 68.23 rating. He posts a 23% career win rate and an avg speed figure of 55, showing he fires with some regularity. A clean trip from the seven-hole and jockey Jose O. Rocha aboard makes him a logical saver underneath.
Connecter brings a 62.45 rating and opened as the 2/1 second choice, meaning the oddsmakers respect his chances even if our model doesn't rank him top-two. Trainer Shainell Birdrattler has this one positioned to run, and an 8% career win rate in a competitive claiming environment suggests he has hit the board before. He's the kind of horse who keeps you honest in trifecta construction.
Race 2
Allowance · 6 fur · Dirt
Zipliner dominates the TrackWiz ratings in this six-furlong allowance, but an 8-horse field with several overlays — including a wide-open 12/1 morning-line longshot — makes the exotic tickets genuinely interesting.
Zipliner is the clear standout here with an 85.62 rating, a full 20 points clear of the next-best horse in the field. Trainer Colten Mead sends him out at 4/1, which is a mild overlay given that gap in our numbers. Jockey Orlando Foster takes the mount, and a 15% career win rate means Zipliner knows how to get his nose down when it counts. This is our best-bet play of the first three races.
Biz Appeal is the sneaky place contender here — a 65.25 TrackWiz rating pairs nicely with an eye-catching 25% career win rate, which is the highest in the field. Jose O. Rocha knows how to put horses in position at this level, and a 3/1 morning line suggests the public is on board too. Don't overlook the value of his win percentage when building place and exacta tickets.
Force of Fire is a 12/1 shot in an allowance, which naturally draws the eye for exacta and trifecta purposes. A 53.46 rating is modest but not dismissible, and trainer Patricia Pigeau has this one priced to intrigue. Including Force of Fire in show tickets and trifecta wheels adds meaningful return potential if the chalk gets compromised.
Race 3
Allowance · 6 fur · Dirt
Island Bender and Betty Lute look like the class of this six-furlong allowance, but the morning line makes this a legitimate three-horse race at the top — pace scenario will matter in sorting out the order.
Island Bender checks every box in our model — an 87.08 rating, a 20% career win rate, and a published avg speed figure of 55, which matches the best in the field. Trainer Jocelyn L. Giesbrecht puts him out at 3/1, and jockey Orlando Foster has the experience to navigate a seven-horse field from the six-hole. That combination of raw rating and consistent speed output makes Island Bender our top selection.
Betty Lute is a legitimate threat at 5/2 and holds our second-highest rating at 76.56. Her avg speed figure of 54 is right there with the top horses in the race, and trainer Kevin Oberholtzer has her in position to fire. Blandford Stewart, who rides the win pick in Race 1, is back aboard here — he's clearly a busy rider today and one worth tracking.
Goldie Socks at 4/1 brings a solid 71.78 rating — third-best in the field — and trainer Krista A. Shearer has runners showing up sharp throughout this card. A 10% career win rate is modest, but the raw rating suggests she's competitive enough to land a piece. In a race where the top three in our model are closely grouped, Goldie Socks rounds out a natural trifecta key.
Our three free races — the opening Claiming sprint (Race 1), plus the Allowance pairs in Races 2 and 3 — give everyone a look at the dirt at 5½ and 6 furlongs. Lovely John kicks things off in Race 1 with an 87.08 TrackWiz rating at a juicy 3/1 morning line. Cold weather like today's can tighten up the track surface and compress early fractions, which we think benefits a horse with Lovely John's profile. In Race 2, Zipliner (85.62) is our pick in a six-furlong Allowance, and Race 3 brings Island Bender — also rated 87.08 — at 3/1 in another Allowance going the same distance.
Worth noting: two of the three free picks share that 87.08 rating and both are priced at 3/1. That's exactly the kind of consistent value cluster we look for when building multi-race tickets early in a card. Start small, stay sharp, and let the card come to you.
