Laurel Park Picks & Predictions — May 30, 2026
It's a gorgeous Saturday at Laurel Park — 66°F, clear skies, and ideal conditions for a full 11-race card. The turf course figures to be in prime shape, and that matters today because no fewer than five of the eleven races are contested on the grass. If you've been waiting for a good turf day at Laurel, this is it.
The card spans the full spectrum — maiden claimers, allowance routes, starter events, and a couple of optional claiming spots that draw some genuinely interesting class questions. TrackWiz analysis has rated horses across all 11 races, and today's top-rated runner, Barbadian Runner in Race 10, clocks in at a card-best 90.0 — one of the stronger scores we've seen at this track all meet.
Three races are open to everyone today. Races 4 through 11 are available to TrackWiz subscribers with full breakdowns, pace projections, and exotic ticket suggestions.
Best Bets
Race 1
Starter Allowance · 1 1/8 mi · Turf
A sprawling 12-horse starter allowance on the turf at 1 1/8 miles, where TrackWiz ratings create a clear top tier — but a 25% career winner buried at 20/1 adds a juicy wrinkle to the exotics.
Brighty tops our ratings by a significant margin at 87.81, standing well clear of the rest of this field. Trainer Jonathan Maldonado sends this one out at 5/2 on the morning line, suggesting connections are confident at the 1 1/8-mile turf route. While the 5% career win rate raises an eyebrow, the rating gap over the second-best horse in the field is hard to ignore. Raul Mena has the call and figures to put this one in a comfortable stalking spot going long.
Freedom Glider (9) checks in with a 64.93 TrackWiz rating and a 9% career win clip — matching the field's better performers. Joseph Rocco, Jr. is one of the sharper jockeys in this colony, and trainer John Salzman keeps his horses fit and ready. At 7/2 on the morning line, the place price could be fair value if Brighty's connections feel this is a soft spot.
Lino's Fire is the sneaky inclusion here — a 25% career win rate is the best in the entire field, and the 61.92 rating puts this horse firmly in the top third. The 20/1 morning line seems to underestimate that win percentage, making this a worthwhile show ticket and an exotic anchor. Jean Gregor Briceno has the mount, so watch the tote — if money shows up on this one late, it's worth upgrading.
Race 2
Maiden Claiming · 1 1/16 mi · Dirt
A maiden claiming sprint stretched to 1 1/16 miles on the dirt — all winless horses, so TrackWiz ratings and speed figures do the heavy lifting in separating contenders from pretenders.
River City Runner sits at the top of our ratings (87.08) in a field where no horse has ever visited the winner's circle. Trainer Michael Trombetta is one of the most accomplished conditioners in the Mid-Atlantic, and when he has the top-rated horse in a maiden claimer at 3/1, you take notice. Mychel Sanchez gets the call, and the 1 1/16-mile distance gives a plodding type time to find their best stride. The 51 average speed figure is modest, but in this field it may be enough.
Divine Swagger (3) is the morning-line favorite at 2/1 and backs it up with a 73.52 rating — second-best in the field by a comfortable margin. Jean Gregor Briceno is a strong booking for Anthony Aguirre, Jr., and a 53 average speed figure is competitive for this level. At 2/1, the win price may be thin, but this horse is a solid place anchor in any exotic you're building.
Transquaking (4) rates third in the field at 55.83 and draws a respectable 7/2 on the morning line. Trainer Suzanne Stettinius also saddles My Captain in this race, suggesting she's had a busy prep — but Transquaking's ratings edge gives this one the nod. A 53 average speed figure keeps pace with the top two, and Emanuel Rosario is a capable rider to get this one home for a piece.
Race 3
Starter Allowance · 6 fur · Turf
The morning-line favorite Getaway Palace is actually NOT the top-rated horse in this 6-furlong turf starter allowance — Bay Street and Lady Zeta both grade out higher, setting up a potential upset of the chalk.
Bay Street (6) leads all TrackWiz ratings at 77.26 despite opening at a generous 9/2 on the morning line. A 20% career win rate is excellent for this level, and the 53 average speed figure is right in the zone for a turf sprint. Trainer Damon Dilodovico places horses well, and Ismerio Villalobos should be able to find a good stalking position from post 6. The value case here is real — if Bay Street runs to their rating, the favorite is beatable.
Lady Zeta (7) runs a close second in our ratings at 75.94 and brings a sparkling 24% career win rate to the table. Forest Boyce takes the mount for trainer Lacey Gaudet, and a 54 average speed figure is among the better numbers in this field. At 7/2, the morning line respects this one — and rightfully so. If Bay Street gets caught in traffic or stumbles early, Lady Zeta has the profile to swoop.
Getaway Palace (2) is the morning-line favorite at 8/5 and isn't without merit — a 20% career win rate and the best average speed figure in the field at 55 are legitimate credentials. Trainer Erin McClellan sends this one out with a strong booking in Inoel Beato. The 69.69 rating trails our top two, but in a race where pace could be a factor, the favorite's raw speed could prove decisive.
Our three complimentary picks today cover a nice cross-section of the card. On the turf, Brighty opens the day in a 1 1/8-mile Starter Allowance at a very playable 5/2 morning line, posting an 87.81 TrackWiz rating — strong for an early race. Bay Street rounds out the free turf coverage in Race 3, a 6-furlong sprint where the 9/2 morning line looks like it may underestimate her chances given today's firm going. In between, River City Runner takes on a 1 1/16-mile maiden claiming field on the dirt in Race 2 — the 3/1 chalk with an 87.08 rating and what our models see as a pace setup that suits her running style.
One connecting thread across these free plays: the turf course is likely playing fair to slightly favoring closers based on seasonal pattern data, while the dirt seems straightforward and speed-friendly at the shorter distances. Keep that in mind as you structure your early-card tickets.
