Keeneland Picks & Predictions — October 7, 2026
Fall meet at Keeneland — there's nothing quite like it. The limestone-blue grandstand, the manicured turf, the crisp October air. Today we've got clear skies and a comfortable 75°F, which means a fast, consistent dirt surface and no weather excuses for anyone in the entries.
Wednesday's card presents three races that caught our eye, all on the main track, ranging from a one-mile Starter Allowance opener to a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming tests at six furlongs and a mile and a sixteenth. Compact card, but there's plenty to work with — and some genuine opinions to share.
All three of today's previews are free. Dig in.

Race 1
Starter Allowance · 1 mi · Dirt
A starter allowance mile on the dirt where two horses separate themselves from the pack on TrackWiz ratings, but the morning line favorite isn't the top-rated horse — making the 8/5 an interesting price question at a mile.
Fountain Run sits atop our TrackWiz ratings at 89.12 — the highest mark in this field — and trainer Anna M. Meah sends her out with a 30% career win rate backing the confidence. At 8/5 on the morning line, she's appropriately priced, but the rating gap between her and the rest of the field is real. Danny Sheehy gets the call and should be able to settle her into a comfortable pace in this one-mile trip.
Military Road is the second-highest rated horse in the field at 86.35, within striking distance of Fountain Run, and 7/2 morning line offers a touch of value for a horse with a 26% career win rate. Rafael Bejarano is a savvy pilot and at a mile, a pace-pressing style could set him up to grab a piece at the wire even if he can't reel in the top pick.
Global Sensation is interesting as our show pick at 9/2 because his 29% career win rate actually leads the field — that's a horse who converts when he shows up. His TrackWiz rating of 68.02 isn't elite, but his consistency profile and Jaime Torres in the irons make him a legitimate exotics anchor for trifecta and superfecta plays.
Race 3
Allowance Optional Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
Six furlongs of dirt sprint action in an allowance optional claimer where the top two TrackWiz-rated horses are separated by only 2.25 points, setting up what could be a heated pace duel between the 5/2 morning line choice and a 30% career winner lurking at 8/1.
Justinqueso tops our TrackWiz ratings in this sprint at 82.04, and trainer Ian R. Wilkes paired with Brian Joseph Hernandez Jr. is a formidable combination at Keeneland. His average speed figure of 57 ties for the field lead, and in a six-furlong dirt sprint, early foot matters — Justinqueso's profile suggests he can put himself in a good position early and hold on. The 5/2 morning line is fair for the class of this race.
Spring Dancer at 8/1 is the most intriguing value play on the board — a 30% career win rate is the highest among all starters here, and Jose L. Ortiz is one of the most effective sprint riders in the country. His TrackWiz rating of 79.79 keeps him very much in contention, and if Justinqueso draws out the speed duel, Spring Dancer could be right there to swoop at the top of the stretch.
Madonna of Loreto represents a legitimate show-ticket inclusion at 8/1 with Luis Saez up, a rider who consistently gives horses every chance. Her 62.48 rating places her squarely in the middle of the pack, but at that morning line price, she provides nice overlay value in exotics. In a field where several horses are bunched in the 55-57 average speed range, she's not out of range of landing a piece.
Race 6
Allowance Optional Claiming · 1 1/16 mi · Dirt
The morning line favorite in this one-and-one-sixteenth mile allowance optional claimer is NOT the top-rated horse on TrackWiz — Union Mist carries the field's highest rating at 2/1 while posting the field's lowest career win percentage, which is the central puzzle bettors need to solve here.
Union Mist leads our TrackWiz ratings at 88.54 — a number that stands well clear of second-place Clairita's 82.19 — and trainer Brendan P. Walsh is one of the most respected conditioners in the game at route distances. The elephant in the room is an 8% career win rate, which is low, but that can reflect a horse who has been running in tougher company or facing unusually competitive fields throughout her career. Tyler Gaffalione gets the mount, and he's exactly the type of patient, rhythm rider you want at 1 1/16 miles.
Clairita is the horse we'd lean on hardest if Union Mist gets bet down further — a 82.19 TrackWiz rating and a 28% career win rate is a combination that commands respect. Junior Alvarado has the clock sense to rate a router, and at 4/1, there's genuine place value here. Trainer Philip Bauer keeps horses fit, and Clairita's average speed of 54 matches the pace profile of this field well.
Strong Destiny is our value show inclusion at 10/1, and here's the angle: a 22% career win rate from trainer Matthew Sims with Mario Gutierrez up is quietly competent, and the horse's 59.7 TrackWiz rating makes her live enough to sneak a piece at a generous price. In a race with a pace question mark around Union Mist's style, a closer who can find traffic room at the top of the lane at 10/1 is worth a spot in your exotics.
The through-line on today's card is straightforward dirt form on a surface that's playing honest. No bias reports to work around, no rain-softened footing to second-guess — just horses who can run on a fair track. That makes class and recent speed figures the primary levers to pull, and our top picks reflect exactly that.
Fountain Run headlines the opener with a TrackWiz rating of 89.12 and a morning line of 8/5 — we like the number. Justinqueso draws our attention in Race 3 at 5/2, a sprinter who fits the six-furlong distance snugly. And Union Mist at 2/1 in Race 6 is the most straightforward play on the board — an 88.54 rating against an Allowance Optional Claiming field at a route distance that suits her profile. Three solid angles, three clean opinions.

Clear day, honest track, three clean opinions. Fountain Run in Race 1, Justinqueso in Race 3, and Union Mist in Race 6 are today's best bets at Keeneland. None of these are slam dunks — this is horse racing, after all — but the data backs each one up. Good luck out there, and as always, bet within your means.
