Horseshoe Indianapolis Picks & Predictions — October 14, 2026
It's a wet Wednesday at Horseshoe Indianapolis, and the rain falling at 78°F is going to be the story of the day. When moisture starts mixing into the Hoosier dirt, pace dynamics shift, biases can emerge in a hurry, and the handicapper who adjusts fastest is the one cashing tickets at the window.
We've got a 9-race card to break down — a mix of claiming races, maiden special weights, and a couple of turf routes that bear watching as the rail gets soft. Three of those races are free for every TrackWiz reader, and our full-card premium breakdown covers the remaining six.
The card leans heavily on maiden company today, which means raw talent, unpredictable form, and — if you know where to look — some genuine overlay opportunities. Let's get into it.
Best Bets
Race 1
Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
A claiming sprint with a clear class standout at the top, but three horses bunched closely enough in the ratings to make the exotics interesting — this one sets up as a solid win play with some underneath value.
The Exodus Twist is the most credentialed horse in this field on TrackWiz ratings, clocking in at 87.81 — a full seven points clear of the next closest rival. Posting an average speed figure of 56, the highest in the field, Santo Sanjur gets the call from the Emma Jimenez Sanchez barn and that's a combo worth watching. The morning line of 5/2 reflects the market's respect, but we think there's a real chance this horse dictates terms from the front and never looks back.
Tap Tap Tap It In comes in with an 80.65 TrackWiz rating and a 55 average speed figure, putting her squarely in the hunt for second money. Fernando De La Cruz gets the mount for the Tim Eggleston barn, and at 3/1 on the morning line, there's legitimate upside if the win pick gets in any kind of trouble. She's built for a six-furlong dirt sprint and belongs right in this mix.
Frosted Bull at 7/2 morning line carries the third-best TrackWiz rating in the field at 78.76, and Helen Pitts has this horse pointed right. The show spot feels like a floor for a horse with this profile — solid speed, competitive rating, and a reasonable price — making her a sensible inclusion in any tri or exacta box.
Race 2
Maiden Special Weight · 5 1/2 fur · Dirt
A maiden special weight sprint where one horse has separated herself dramatically in the ratings — but with every runner searching for a first win, anything can happen over 5½ furlongs.
Lil Gitana is simply in a different tier from this field, carrying a 89.27 TrackWiz rating — over 34 points better than the next-best horse. Santo Sanjur has the call for trainer Antonio Duran, and the 3/2 morning line signals the market agrees this filly is the one to beat. She's shown a 53 average speed figure, and in a maiden race where the competition is thin at the top, she should get every opportunity to wire this field.
Tiz Sahara checks in at a 55.0 rating — the second-best in the race — and Mitchell Murrill takes the mount for trainer Tomas Medina. At 4/1 on the morning line, this is a fair price for a horse that figures to be running on at the wire when the leaders tire, making her a logical underneath play in exactas.
Alloutjustice earns a 53.33 rating and 5/1 morning line, which represents genuine value in a race where the show spot is very much up for grabs. Trainer Raymond J. Paquette III puts Joseph M. Romero aboard, and with several horses bunched in the 51–55 rating range, Alloutjustice has as good a shot as any to grab third money.
Race 3
Maiden Special Weight · 6 fur · Dirt
Two horses stand well above the pack in this maiden sprint — a legitimate top-tier contender against a market favorite — while a 10/1 shot lurks as the most intriguing exacta wheel underneath.
Misty Moon Song heads into this six-furlong maiden with a commanding 87.08 TrackWiz rating, the best in the field by more than 13 points. Hannah Leahey gets the mount for Brian L. Schling, and with an average speed figure of 53, she's been doing the work on dirt. At 3/1 morning line, she opens as a square price for a horse that profiles as a genuine class standout — this is our top selection with conviction.
Tiva is the morning-line favorite at 8/5, which reflects her 73.68 TrackWiz rating and a 54 average speed figure — the best posted speed number in this field. Rodney A. Prescott and trainer Jonathan Nance have her primed, and while we prefer Misty Moon Song at the top, Tiva is absolutely live underneath and should hit the board.
Kathi's Girl draws attention as a 10/1 shot with a 56.05 TrackWiz rating — the third-best mark in the race — and Fernando De La Cruz picks up the mount for Marcelino Salas. At double-digit odds in a relatively short field, she represents live exotics value, and her 53 average speed figure keeps pace with the leaders' numbers.
Our three free races today are all dirt sprints, which is a nice fit for a rainy afternoon — these shorter distances tend to reward horses that can break clean and establish position before the going gets deeper. The Exodus Twist (Race 1, 5/2 morning line) tops our dirt opener with an 87.81 TrackWiz rating, and in a claiming field on a wet track, that kind of number stands out. In Race 2, Lil Gitana earns our highest free-race rating at 89.27 and goes as the 3/2 morning line favorite — this is the kind of horse you build your early-card exotics around. Misty Moon Song rounds out the free trio in Race 3, drawing a 3/1 morning line in another maiden special weight sprint.
The common thread across all three? They're running on a surface that's going to reward horses with tactical speed and a clean trip. With rain in the air, keep an eye on how the track is playing through the early races — that information is gold heading into the back half of the card.
