Horseshoe Indianapolis Picks & Predictions — October 6, 2026
It's a beautiful Tuesday afternoon at Horseshoe Indianapolis — clear skies, 68°F, and a firm, fast surface that should reward horses who want to run. Conditions like these are a handicapper's best friend: no excuses, no mud biases, just pure ability sorting itself out on a dry track.
We've got a 9-race card on tap today, mixing maiden claimers and straight claiming races with three allowance spots that should draw some genuinely competitive fields. There's dirt sprinting, a pair of turf routes, and even a quarter-horse sprint to close things out — something for every kind of bettor on the card.
TrackWiz analysis covers all 9 races. Three races are free for every reader, and our full premium breakdown unlocks the remaining six, including pace projections, exotic plays, and multi-race wager structures for the back half of the card.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Claiming · 1 mi · Dirt
A maiden claiming mile on dirt with zero career wins across the entire field — the separation here comes down to TrackWiz ratings and raw speed figures, where a clear top two emerge from a muddled bunch.
Maid of Steel tops our ratings at 58.33 and posts the field's best average speed figure at 55 — both edges are meaningful in a race where no horse has ever crossed the wire first. Mitchell Murrill gets the call, and the 2/1 morning line suggests the market agrees this one is the class of the field. In a maiden field where early pace could be chaotic, a horse with the highest speed figure has a natural edge to take control and not look back. This is our best bet in the opener.
My Chickadee checks in second in the TrackWiz ratings at 57.5, just a hair behind the top pick, making her the logical alternative if the favorite underperforms. Alex Achard is a capable rider, and the 5/2 morning line reflects genuine confidence from the morning line maker. She fits well in exotics and is a strong candidate to hit the board.
Call Her Majesty rates third in the field at 54.17 and ties Lady Maximum for the second-best average speed figure at 54, giving her a legitimate case for a piece. Marcelino Pedroza, Jr. is a solid book and a 9/2 morning line offers reasonable value for show tickets and trifecta construction. In a wide-open maiden field, her numbers are enough to trust for third.
Race 2
Maiden Claiming · 5 1/2 fur · Dirt
This 5½-furlong maiden claimer on dirt features a dominant top-rated runner that the market has already zeroed in on, but two horses underneath offer intriguing value in the exotics.
It'stheonlywaytogo owns the highest TrackWiz rating in this field by a wide margin at 88.54 — more than 15 points clear of the second-best horse — and backs it up with a 54 average speed figure. Victor Lara gets the mount and the 2/1 morning line is likely to compress further once money flows in. In a short sprint where raw ability often dictates the outcome, this horse's rating advantage is hard to overcome. Confident top selection.
Onelilconquest rates second in the field at 73.1, a significant drop from the top pick but still well clear of the rest of the pack. Orlando Mojica is a reliable hand and the 4/1 morning line makes this a fair price for a horse expected to sit just off the leader and threaten for second. Solid place play and a key piece in any horizontal wagers.
Tapit Charm (53 avg speed figure, rated 50.12) is the third-best ranked horse in the race and draws from a barn that also saddles Sweet Sahara, so trainer Terry Vaughn has two looks at the board. The 5/1 morning line gives you enough value to include Tapit Charm in trifecta and superfecta tickets as the logical show horse behind the top two.
Race 3
Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
A competitive claiming sprint at 6 furlongs where one horse looks like a standout on both ratings and speed figures, but there's legitimate depth in the field that keeps the exotics interesting.
Rockin Rocio is the most dominant single-race profile on today's card relative to her field — an 89.12 TrackWiz rating and a 56 average speed figure, both tops by a clear margin, backed by a 22% career win rate. Victor Lara is in the irons and the 8/5 morning line reflects how lopsided this matchup looks on paper. With the best speed figure AND the best career win percentage in the field, this is a horse that earns her favoritism. Bet down to it accordingly.
What About Now rates 65.41 — second-best in the field — and gets the rail post with Orlando Mojica up for the Tim Eggleston barn. A career win rate of 8% in claiming company isn't flashy, but the 8/1 morning line makes this an excellent place play if Rockin Rocio runs her race. She figures to be in the mix early at six furlongs and is worth including in exactas.
B On the Loose catches the eye with a 16% career win rate — highest among the secondary contenders — and a 61.01 rating that puts her solidly in third in this field. Rodney Prescott gets the assignment and the 10/1 morning line represents real value for show tickets and trifecta bottoms. Don't sleep on a horse with a proven knack for hitting the board.
The three free races today give you a solid foundation to build a winning day. Race 1 kicks things off on the dirt at a mile — Maid of Steel draws our eye at 2/1 on the morning line, though the maiden claiming ranks at a mile can be full of surprises. Race 2 goes short and fast over 5½ furlongs, and It'stheonlywaytogo checks in with one of the strongest TrackWiz ratings on the card at 88.54 — a number that commands respect in this spot.
Race 3 may be the most exciting of the free trio. Rockin Rocio carries an 89.12 TrackWiz rating into a 6-furlong dirt claiming sprint and lands on the morning line as an 8/5 favorite — the shortest price of any free-race top pick today. On a fast, true track like we're expecting this afternoon, a horse with that kind of rating edge in a sprint distance is exactly the type of play you want anchoring your early card strategy.
