Horseshoe Indianapolis Picks & Predictions — September 8, 2026

9 racesAll Horseshoe Indianapolis picks

It's a warm Tuesday afternoon in Indianapolis — partly cloudy skies and 85°F at post time — and Horseshoe has put together a solid nine-race card that mixes short sprints with a couple of route tests on both dirt and turf. The kind of day where pace scenarios shift by the surface and knowing which horses to trust in the heat matters.

Three of those races are completely free for all TrackWiz readers, giving you a real taste of our analysis before the card heats up. The back half of the card leans premium, and for good reason — that's where the most actionable spots live, including a couple of turf routes that could produce some nice overlays.

Let's get into it.

Best Bets

Race 1

Maiden Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt

A maiden claiming sprint where the morning-line favorite looks vulnerable against a TrackWiz top-rated runner going off at much bigger odds — value hunters should pay attention here.

win1MartineML 5/1

Martine draws the rail and holds the highest TrackWiz rating in the field at 84.17 — a meaningful edge over the rest of this maiden claiming group. Jockey Rishawn Blanche gets the call for trainer John C. Schultz, and at 5/1 on the morning line, the market hasn't fully caught up to the model's opinion. With an average speed figure of 53 backing up a strong rating, Martine looks like the class of this field on paper.

place2OnelilconquestML 8/1

Onelilconquest sits second in the TrackWiz ratings at 77.95 and goes postward at 8/1, making this a genuine value play for exacta and trifecta tickets. Orlando Mojica gets the mount for trainer Raymond J. Paquette III, a combination worth watching in this spot. The price alone makes this horse worth including underneath.

show5Sparkle JusticeML 6/5

Sparkle Justice is the 6/5 morning-line chalk, so the crowd will be all over this one — but our ratings peg the horse at 75.93, third-best in the field and actually behind both Martine and Onelilconquest. That gap at the top of the ratings makes Sparkle Justice a reasonable show ticket rather than a confident win play, and trainer Randy L. Klopp has the horse ready to fire.

Race 2

Maiden Special Weight · 6 fur · Dirt

Maiden special weight over six furlongs on the dirt, and one horse stands well above the rest on TrackWiz ratings — but a pair of interesting prices lurk underneath in a race that could set up for solid exacta returns.

win5BasilML 2/1

Basil is the clear top selection here with a TrackWiz rating of 88.54 — the highest in the field by more than 22 points — and checks in as the 2/1 morning-line favorite for trainer Pavel Matejka. Walter A. Rodriguez gets the ride, and with an average speed figure of 54 matching the top of the field, Basil has both the raw numbers and the market support to justify a confident win bet. In maiden special weight company, a separation this large in the ratings is hard to overlook.

place1Forever HopeML 6/1

Forever Hope at 6/1 is one of the more intriguing prices on the board, rated 65.83 by TrackWiz — second-best in the field. Mitchell Murrill takes the mount for trainer Tomas Medina, and if Basil draws any trouble or faces pace pressure, Forever Hope is positioned to sweep up the place spot. At those odds, the place payoff could be well worth it.

show4Army FeverML 5/2

Army Fever is pegged at 5/2 on the morning line and carries a TrackWiz rating of 57.50, slotting in solidly behind Basil and Forever Hope. Trainer Devarus Douglass sends out this runner with Rodney A. Prescott aboard, and the 5/2 price suggests the morning-line maker thinks there's more here than our model sees — which means show bettors and trifecta players shouldn't completely ignore this one.

Race 3

Allowance · 6 fur · Dirt

This allowance sprint features two horses with eye-catching 50% career win rates, and the one with the superior TrackWiz rating looks like a strong play — though a pair of honest prices lurk underneath.

win7Delta Tau ChiML 7/2

Delta Tau Chi is the standout here with a TrackWiz rating of 86.35 — tops in the field — and remarkably, carries a 50% career win rate, meaning when this horse gets to the wire first, it's no accident. Alberto Burgos has the call for trainer Randy L. Klopp, and with an average speed figure of 56 matching the best in the field, Delta Tau Chi looks well-equipped for this distance. At 7/2 on the morning line, this is a solid win play with legitimate credentials.

place6TazzyML 5/1

Tazzy is our place pick at 5/1, rated 68.17 by TrackWiz with a 16% career win rate and a speed figure of 56 that ties for best in the field. Trainer Antonio Duran saddles Tazzy with Santo Sanjur up, and this runner has shown enough consistency at this level to warrant exotic inclusion. The price makes Tazzy a smart underneath play in exactas.

show2Mister BanderasML 7/2

Mister Banderas comes in at 7/2 with a TrackWiz rating of 65.16 and a 15% career win rate for trainer Kenneth G. Miller. Adam Beschizza gets the mount, and while Mister Banderas trails both Delta Tau Chi and Tazzy on our model, this is a horse with legit allowance form that could easily hit the board. A solid trifecta anchor at a fair price.

Our three free races cover Races 1 through 3 — a maiden claimer, a maiden special weight, and an allowance, all going six furlongs on the dirt. That's a clean, consistent sample to open the day. Martine (5/1 morning line) tops our ratings in the opener with an 84.17 TrackWiz rating, but the race to watch early is Race 2, where Basil draws in at 2/1 on the morning line and rates out at 88.54 — the highest score of the free trio. In maiden special weight company, that kind of edge gets our attention.

Delta Tau Chi rounds out the free card in Race 3's allowance, sitting at 7/2 and rating 86.35. The six-furlong dirt sprint is consistent across all three free races, so if there's a surface bias developing early, you'll have three data points to confirm it before the premium races kick in.

Bottom line: Basil is the sharpest play among the free races, and Jess a Lookin leads the premium side on pure rating alone. The turf races in the afternoon could be the most profitable spots on the card if pace sets up correctly — and that's exactly what we dig into for subscribers. Good luck out there, and as always, bet smart.
