Horseshoe Indianapolis Picks & Predictions — August 24, 2026
It's a pleasant Monday at Horseshoe Indianapolis — partly cloudy skies and a comfortable 75°F mean the turf should be in excellent shape and the dirt track running true. Nine races are on tap, mixing maiden claimers, allowance company, and a pair of turf routes that could produce some fireworks in the exotic pools.
The card has a little something for everyone: short-field sprints on the front end for the pace handicappers, and a couple of turf routes later in the afternoon that set up beautifully for multi-race sequences. Conditions look rider-friendly all day, so don't expect surface excuses — these results are going to come down to horse quality and trip luck.
Three races are unlocked and free for every TrackWiz reader. The remaining six are part of our full premium breakdown, available to subscribers.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
A wide-open maiden claimer over six furlongs of dirt, but TrackWiz ratings point to a clear top tier separating from the rest of the field.
Mayzforcebewithu draws the morning-line favoritism at 3/1 and earns the highest TrackWiz rating in the field at 87.08 — a meaningful edge over a maiden field where most runners are still finding their footing. Trainer Larry Rivelli puts a capable horse on the board with Walter A. Rodriguez in the irons, a solid partnership for a maiden who figures to outclass the majority of this group. The 53 average speed figure is right in line with the pace scenario here, and at 3/1, the market agrees this one belongs at the top of the ticket.
Easy Effort carries the second-highest rating in the field (82.17) and posts the field's top average speed figure at 54, suggesting this Fernando De La Cruz mount can actually sustain pace better than most. Trainer Aaron M. West sends this one out at a reasonable 7/2 morning line — not a longshot, but not a chalk overlay either. If Mayzforcebewithu hits a snag, Easy Effort is positioned to collect the place money.
Best Hat at 8/1 is the value inclusion here — Hannah Leahey gets the call for trainer Joseph D. Davis, and a TrackWiz rating of 75.08 makes this one a legitimate contender compared to the bottom half of the field. While the average speed matches some mid-tier runners, the overall rating suggests Best Hat may be better than the morning line implies. A nice exotics hedge in a maiden race where upsets are always possible.
Race 2
Starter Optional Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
The career win percentages in this Starter Optional Claiming sprint tell a fascinating story — one horse stands miles above the rest, but the pace could set up for a stalker.
Cupid's Runaway is the class of this field by a significant margin, posting a staggering 75% career win rate — far and away the best of any horse on this card today. The TrackWiz rating of 87.81 reinforces that dominance, and trainer Randy L. Klopp, who also saddles the show pick, clearly has this barn in sharp form. Alberto Burgos gets the mount at 5/2, and while that's not a steal price, backing a horse that wins three out of every four starts is simply sound handicapping.
Hawkeye is the public's choice at 2/1 on the morning line and carries a solid 31% career win rate alongside a TrackWiz rating of 76.7. Trainer John Haran runs two horses in this race — a sign of stable confidence — and Jose Ramos Gutierrez is a capable handler in the irons. Hawkeye figures to be a pressing presence early and should be tough to shake out of a piece at the very least.
Luckies Joy sits third in our ratings at 71.87 with a 24% career win rate and the field's top average speed figure at 57 — a detail that shouldn't be overlooked in a six-furlong sprint. Trainer John Haran doubles down here with Amir Mendoza up, and a 9/2 morning line offers some value if the exacta gets spiced up. Tuck this one into your tickets as a legitimate show threat.
Race 3
Allowance · 6 fur · Dirt
An allowance sprint that features two co-favorites on paper but a clear rating edge for one, while a pair of 50%-win-rate horses lurk at longer prices.
Liz's Legacy rates highest in the field at 81.09 and holds the top average speed figure among the leading contenders at 55, putting her in a strong position over this six-furlong allowance strip. Mitchell Murrill gets the call for trainer Robert M. Gorham, and while a 16% career win rate isn't flashy, the raw speed and rating numbers here are what matter most. At 7/2, she represents the most bankable combination of rating and price in the race.
She's a Whirlwind comes in as the morning-line co-favorite at 5/2 and earns a TrackWiz rating of 77.46 — just a hair behind Liz's Legacy at the top. Trainer Antonio Duran runs two horses today, showing he has a live barn, and Rodney A. Prescott is a reliable pilot. A 12% career win rate may look modest, but in allowance company, it's the recent form and speed that count.
Turbo Lady at 3/1 is worth noting for exotic plays — a TrackWiz rating of 77.2 puts her in a virtual dead heat with She's a Whirlwind at the top of the ratings cluster. Trainer Randy L. Klopp, who is having an active day at Horseshoe Indianapolis, saddles this one with Joseph D. Ramos up. The 11% career win rate looks light, but show money in an allowance race this competitive is very much in play.
Our three free best bets today cover the first half of the card and span maiden claiming through allowance company on dirt. Mayzforcebewithu opens the day in Race 1 carrying an 87 TrackWiz rating off the morning line of 3/1 — solid value if the odds hold. Cupid's Runaway follows in Race 2 as a 5/2 morning-line choice in the starter optional claiming ranks, where our analysis gives the edge to horses with proven class at this level. Liz's Legacy rounds out the free trio in Race 3's six-furlong allowance at 7/2 — a price worth respecting given a rating just north of 81.
The early pace scenario across all three free races looks relatively honest — no obvious speed-heavy bias today — which could help stalkers and closers get involved. Keep an eye on how the first few races play out before diving deep into the turf exactas later in the card.
