Fairmount Park Picks & Predictions — October 6, 2026
It's a beautiful Tuesday at Fairmount Park — clear skies, 74°F, and a fast dirt surface primed for speed horses to do their thing. Conditions like these tend to favor pace-setters who can get to the lead early and dictate terms, so keep that in mind as you work through the card.
We've got eight races on tap today, spread across distances ranging from a quick 5½-furlong sprint all the way out to a grueling 1¾-mile Starter Allowance in Race 5. That kind of variety makes for an interesting handicapping puzzle — the sprint game and the route game don't always play by the same rules, and today you'll need to shift gears between them.
Three of the eight races are unlocked and free for every TrackWiz reader. The other five are part of our premium full-card breakdown. Let's get into it.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Special Weight · 5 1/2 fur · Dirt
A maiden special weight opener over 5½ furlongs where TrackWiz ratings create a clear tier separation — but a pair of longshots could scramble the exotics.
Sculptor is the standout in this maiden field, carrying an 89.42 TrackWiz rating that dwarfs every other runner and posting the field's top average speed figure of 54. Trained by John C. Wainwright and piloted by Julio E. Felix, this runner has all the tools to dominate at 7/5. In a race where maiden experience is limited across the board, raw ability tends to win out — and Sculptor has more of it than anyone in here.
Sho Dominic is a legitimate sleeper at 12/1. A 66.88 rating puts him well ahead of the lower half of the field, and his average speed figure of 53 matches Slick Henry stride for stride. Shane Childers saddles this one, and having two horses in the race gives the barn options — worth siding with the overlooked entry at a generous price.
Slick Henry draws the morning-line second choice at 2/1, and his 58.96 rating supports a piece of the ticket. He matches Sho Dominic's 53 average speed figure and also runs for Shane Childers, giving the barn a strong two-pronged attack. As a show selection, he represents a sensible hedge in case the top pick gets beat on pace.
Race 2
Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
A six-furlong claiming sprint with a soft morning-line favorite that our ratings suggest is overbet — creating real value opportunities higher up the odds board.
Sassy Prancelot leads our analysis with a 77.28 rating and a career win rate of 7%, which might sound modest but holds up well in this claiming company. Trainer Pat Clay puts Angel Ortega Stanley aboard, and the 5/2 morning line feels fair — maybe even generous given how far she sits above Beyond the Law and Color Me Fast in the ratings. Her 53 average speed figure is in line with the pace of this field, meaning she shouldn't get buried early.
Color Me Fast posts the field's top average speed figure at 54 and rates out at 74.86 — just two points behind the win pick. Trainer Dawn Martin has Johanis Aranguren up, and at 7/2 this is a horse that could easily flip the top two. The slightly higher speed number is worth noting in a sprint where early position often decides the outcome.
Beyond the Law is the overlay in this field. A 73.96 rating nearly matches our top two picks, but the 12/1 morning line is a significant discount — likely because trainer Rhonda Thurman and jockey Javier Diego don't scream favorites to the crowd. A 9% career win rate shows this horse knows how to win, making the show slot a smart inclusion in any exotic ticket.
Race 3
Allowance Optional Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
An allowance optional claiming mile sprint where three horses are bunched within three rating points at the top — expect a tight, competitive finish with some real pick-against-the-favorite value.
Bikini Martini earns the top spot here with an 85.62 TrackWiz rating — just a tick above Disguised Devil — and returns to the level where Eddie M. Essenpreis has been effective with this barn's stock. Johanis Aranguren is aboard and has a solid working relationship with the connections. A 15% career win rate may look pedestrian, but in a competitive allowance spot, the ratings edge and trainer familiarity give this one the nod.
Disguised Devil is razor-close to the top pick at 85.29 and sports a career win rate of 21% — the second-highest in this field. Julio E. Felix rides for Larry Rivelli, a combination that knows how to compete at this level. The 2/1 morning line suggests the market agrees, and this horse is a natural place inclusion given the tight top-end ratings cluster.
Tum Tap is the morning-line favorite at 6/5 and boasts the most impressive career win rate in the race at a remarkable 50%. Brody Martinez rides for Eduardo Rodriguez, and the 82.66 rating is strong. We're slotting Tum Tap third here only because the top two edges our model slightly — but don't be surprised if this one lands in front. At 6/5, use the show slot wisely and look for value in the exacta by keying our top two.
Our three free races give you a solid cross-section of today's card. In Race 1, Sculptor opens as the 7/5 morning-line choice in a Maiden Special Weight sprint — that's the kind of short price that tells you the connections believe in this horse, and our TrackWiz rating of 89.42 backs it up as the top-rated runner on the entire card. Race 2 shifts to the claiming ranks where Sassy Prancelot (5/2 ML) catches a field that looks beatable on a clean-weather day with no pace pressure to speak of. Then Race 3 brings us Bikini Martini — a 4/1 morning line in an Allowance Optional Claiming spot with an 85.62 TrackWiz rating. That's a horse worth circling; Allowance Optional Claiming races can offer real value when a lightly regarded runner has the class edge hidden in the conditions.
The common thread across the free races? All three run on dirt at six furlongs or under, meaning the fast surface today could compress the margins. Don't sleep on the early pace scenarios — on a dry, quick track like this, the first turn matters more than people think.
