It's a scorching 95°F under clear skies in Collinsville, and that heat-baked surface is going to play a major role today — when dirt dries out and firms up like this, speed horses get an extra gear and front-runners become even tougher to run down.
We've got a full 8-race card to break apart, all on the dirt, ranging from a Maiden Special Weight opener to an Allowance Optional Claiming feature in Race 8. The middle of the card is loaded with Claiming sprints, which means plenty of competitive chaos and exactly the kind of spots where sharp handicapping pays dividends.

Sculptor is the standout of this field by the numbers, carrying the top TrackWiz rating of 59 and an average speed figure of 54 — the best in the field among horses who have shown a number. Trained by John C. Wainwright and piloted by Emmanuel Giles, the connections are solid and the 8/5 morning line reflects that. In a maiden sprint where experience at the workouts often translates to early separation, Sculptor's edge in both rating and speed figures makes this feel like a legitimate favorite rather than a chalk play to fade.
Sour Tamarindo comes in at 9/2 on the morning line with a TrackWiz rating of 54.17, slotting neatly into that second tier behind Sculptor. Victor Lara gets the mount, and while no average speed figure is on record, the solid overall rating suggests the workouts have shown something worth wagering on for a piece. At the price, Sour Tamarindo offers real value in the exotics if Sculptor falters.
Sho Dominic — trained by Shane Childers and ridden by Angel Ortega Stanley — pairs a 53.33 rating with an average speed figure of 53, giving bettors something concrete to hang their hat on in an otherwise murky maiden field. At 5/1, there's legitimate value here for show tickets and underneath in exactas. Childers has a competent barn and this one looks capable of hitting the board even in a tough race.

Summer of Mischief dominates the TrackWiz ratings by an almost comical margin in this 5½-furlong dirt claimer, but the secondary order behind her is genuinely competitive and worth sorting out for the exotics.
Summer of Mischief's TrackWiz rating of 89.71 is nearly 40 points clear of the next best horse in this field — that's not a gap, it's a canyon. She goes postward at 6/5, and while that's a short price in a claimer, the numbers demand respect. Alexander Bendezu takes the mount for trainer Scott Becker, and the combination of a top-tier speed figure of 54 and that commanding rating makes this the rare case where betting the heavy favorite is simply the right move.
Reba Attack is worth targeting for the place spot at 8/1 — her TrackWiz rating of 49.98 leads the chasing pack and she brings an average speed figure of 54, tied with the top horses in the field. Angel Ortega Stanley rides for trainer Shane Childers, a pairing that has shown it can get horses competitive. If Summer of Mischief gets caught up in any pace trouble, Reba Attack is ideally positioned to capitalize.
Steampunk sits at 2/1 with a rating of 47.48 and a 15% career win rate — respectable figures in a claimer at this level. Victor Lara rides for Steve Manley, and the horse's average speed figure of 53 suggests he's consistently around the pace without quite having the firepower to lead the field. As a show play or an underneath piece in your exacta box, Steampunk is a reliable anchor.

Be Lucky Again is an overwhelming morning-line favorite in this maiden claimer, but Soul Keeper and Cheater represent enough legitimate form to make the exotics interesting at 6 furlongs on the dirt.
Be Lucky Again opens at 2/5 — that's a heavy favorite price — and TrackWiz backs it up with the top rating in the field at 60. Trainer Scott Becker puts Travis Wales in the irons, and the horse posts an average speed figure of 53 in what is otherwise a pretty modest field. In maiden claiming routes where class often dictates results, the top-rated runner with the sharpest connections is hard to beat, even at a short number.
Soul Keeper is the logical place play at 7/2, also trained by Scott Becker, meaning the barn controls the top two horses in the race. With a rating of 55.83 and an average speed figure matching Be Lucky Again at 53, there's a real possibility that Becker's pair goes 1-2 here. Johanis Aranguren rides, and the stable entry dynamic adds an interesting wrinkle — if anything goes wrong with the favorite, Soul Keeper is right there.
Cheater is the dark horse of this opener at 8/1, posting a TrackWiz rating of 48.33 and an average speed figure of 53 — right in line with the leaders — despite being largely overlooked by the morning line. Brody Martinez rides for trainer Heather Irion, and the name aside, this horse has the raw metrics to threaten for third in a race where two of the top spots may go to the Becker barn. A show ticket here has solid upside in a thin maiden field.

Over in Race 2, Summer of Mischief carries a big 89.71 TrackWiz rating into a 5½-furlong Claiming sprint and draws 6/5 on the morning line — that kind of alignment between our numbers and the odds-makers is always worth paying attention to. Race 3 gives us the starkest setup: Be Lucky Again is an odds-on 2/5 shot in a Maiden Claiming route, and while heavy favorites are always a tough sell for value, the Maiden Claiming conditions here could play right into their hands.
On a day this hot, watch for horses that can secure a comfortable lead early and dictate a moderate pace — the firm, fast surface should make those types very difficult to catch in short sprints. All three free picks are live in that context.
