Charles Town Picks & Predictions — October 10, 2026
Charles Town is rolling out a full slate of stakes action on Saturday, October 10, and this is the kind of card that rewards prep work. Ten races, all stakes, all on dirt — that's a rare concentration of quality that gives serious handicappers a real opportunity to build multi-race tickets with some teeth to them.
Conditions are about as neutral as you'll get at this track. It's cloudy and 63°F at post time, with no rain in the picture to complicate surface reads. Expect a consistent, fair dirt strip throughout the afternoon — the kind of day where legitimate speed figures translate cleanly and pace scenarios play out closer to script.
Whether you're here to cherry-pick a single race or grind the full card, TrackWiz has you covered. Three races are open to everyone today, with our top picks already locked in. The other seven are where the real edge lives — and those are waiting for subscribers.
Best Bets
Race 1
Stakes · 6 1/2 fur · Dirt
A heavy favorite dominates the morning line in this 6.5-furlong dirt stakes, but two overlooked runners with competitive ratings make the underneath slots worth targeting.
Crystal Veil is the overwhelming 3/5 morning-line chalk, and the TrackWiz rating of 90 backs up that confidence — it's the highest mark in the field by a wide margin. The 66% career win rate is elite for this level; roughly two out of every three starts end in a trip to the winner's circle. Jeiron Barbosa gets the call for trainer Anthony Farrior, and this connections combo has the look of a well-spotted runner ready to dominate. At 3/5, there's no value to chase here — this is a win-single in your exotics, full stop.
On a Pedestal draws the morning-line second spot at 7/2 for a reason — a TrackWiz rating of 55.83 sits well above the mid-field pack, and that 50% career win rate tells you this horse knows how to finish. Trainer Stacey R. Viands keeps this one sharp, and Jose Montano aboard gives you a competent rider who can handle pace pressure at 6.5 furlongs.
Ghost Busta opens at 6/1 with a 51.67 rating that clusters tightly with the place contenders, making it a legitimate exotics piece in a race where the favorite likely draws clear. Trainer Javier Contreras — who also saddles the longshot in here — clearly likes this card, and Arnaldo Bocachica is one of the sharper pilots in this colony. At the price, Ghost Busta is worth including in trifecta wheels underneath Crystal Veil.
Race 2
Stakes · 4 1/2 fur · Dirt
Two heavyweights — one at even money, one at 5/2 — loom over a short 4.5-furlong sprint, setting up a likely pace duel that could benefit a closer sneaking into the exotics.
Duncan Idaho comes in as the even-money favorite with a TrackWiz rating of 90 and a 66% career win percentage — nearly identical marks to the Race 1 winner, which tells you trainer Jeff C. Runco has this horse sitting on a big effort. Arnaldo Bocachica gets the mount, and he's one of the busiest and most effective riders at Charles Town. In a 4.5-furlong dash where early speed is critical, expect Duncan Idaho to break sharp and dare the field to catch him.
Honeyquist is no pushover at 5/2, posting an 86.59 rating and a 37% career win clip with an average speed figure of 57 — actually the top speed number in this field. Jeiron Barbosa stays in the irons for Anthony Farrior, the same trainer-jockey combo we liked in Race 1. If Duncan Idaho gets brave on the front end and ties up, Honeyquist has the raw speed to swoop past for the place.
Time to Rock at 6/1 slots in with a 74.53 rating that clearly separates from the bottom half of this field, and a 44% career win rate suggests this horse is reliably competitive without being a grinder. Trainer Michael E. Jones, Jr. keeps a steady stable and Moises Santaella provides a capable hand in a race where positioning off the pace could be crucial in the sprint format.
Race 3
Stakes · 6 1/2 fur · Dirt
A 10-horse field sprawls across the 6.5-furlong dirt course with the morning-line favorite well below 2/1, but a pair of double-digit longshots rated higher than their odds suggest could shake up the exotics.
Call Me Micky J. is the 7/5 choice and earns that favoritism with a 73.6 TrackWiz rating — the best mark in a competitive, wide-open field. A 40% career win percentage and an average speed of 53 give this runner consistent form credentials, and trainer John E. Salzman, Jr. with Carlos Eduardo Lopez aboard is a combination that tends to show up ready. At 6.5 furlongs on the Charles Town dirt, a horse that can press or stalk the pace has a significant structural advantage, and Micky J. fits that profile.
Here's the value bomb in Race 3: Sights On Juba opens at 15/1 with a 58.65 TrackWiz rating — second-best in the race — and an average speed figure of 51 from trainer Ronald G. Sigler's barn. Sigler saddles two runners in this race, which can sometimes signal a tactical edge, and Wilfredo Santiago gets the mount. At those odds with that rating, Sights On Juba is a must-use in your exacta and trifecta tickets.
Jack Carson draws the rail and the 4/1 morning line for trainer Jeff C. Runco, who already has a winner on this card. A 55 rating and 50% career win rate are solid credentials, and Arnaldo Bocachica in the saddle keeps the connections elite. The inside post at Charles Town can be a gift or a curse at 6.5 furlongs, but Bocachica has the experience to navigate it cleanly.
Our three free races today span a range of distances and present very different puzzles. Crystal Veil opens the card at 6½ furlongs as a heavy 3/5 morning-line favorite and earns a TrackWiz rating of 90 — a number that speaks for itself. In Race 2, Duncan Idaho comes in at even money over 4½ furlongs, another 90-rated effort, setting up what looks like a sharp chalk play in a short-field sprint. Race 3 introduces a little more intrigue: Call Me Micky J. is the top pick at 7/5 but carries a rating of 73.6, suggesting the gap between the top pick and the field isn't as wide — which means the price on a runner-up could offer some real overlay value in the exotics.
The through-line connecting all three free races is pace. On a consistent dirt track with no weather disruption, early speed tends to get rewarded at Charles Town, and all three of our free picks have the profile to control or press the tempo. Keep that bias in mind if you're building a Pick 3 around Races 1 through 3.
