Canterbury Park Picks & Predictions — August 2, 2026
Sunday racing at Canterbury Park doesn't get much better than this. Eight races under clear Minnesota skies with temperatures sitting at a comfortable 79°F — ideal conditions for fast dirt and firm turf. That combination matters today because we've got four turf routes on the card, and good ground tends to separate horses with genuine class from those just stealing a purse on soft footing.
The headliners are a pair of Stakes sprints at six furlongs on the dirt — Races 3 and 5 — and both figure to draw significant handle. Beyond those, a deep turf allowance in Race 2 and a maiden dirt sprint to open the card give us something to dig into right from the first post. Fun Lovin Guy tops our TrackWiz ratings in this maiden field with a 57.5 — a meaningful edge over the rest of the field in a race where experience is essentially a wash. Trained by Tony Rengstorf and piloted by Kelsi Harr, he also carries the benefit of a legitimate avg speed figure of 54 on record, which ranks him competitively among the horses who have clocked any workouts at all. At 5/2 on the morning line, he's not a gift price, but the ratings gap makes him the most defensible win pick in a wide-open sprint.
Strike One More draws in at 7/2 and checks in second on our TrackWiz ratings at 55.83, making him a logical backup to the top selection. Trainer Joel Berndt saddles him without a published avg speed figure, which introduces some uncertainty, but the underlying rating suggests upside that the morning line may not fully reflect. In maiden sprints, horses without speed figures can surprise — include him in your exactas.
Twin City Boy sits third in our ratings at 54.17 and goes off at a juicy 9/2 on the morning line, giving him decent show value in a field where the top three are tightly bunched. Constantino Roman gets the call for trainer Edgar Espinoza, and while the horse lacks a published avg speed figure, the rating is solid enough to warrant exotic inclusion. Latin Force is the clear TrackWiz top-rated horse in this field at an impressive 88.83 — a significant gap over the second-best rated runner. Trained by Nik G. Goodwin and ridden by Fausto Henrique Da Silva, he sports a 5% career win rate and an avg speed figure of 54 on the turf, which is right in the competitive zone for this distance. At 9/5 on the morning line, he's favored for good reason — the rating edge here is substantial enough to trust the favorite without apology.
Ramblingamblinman is the second-highest rated runner at 69.66 and draws the rail with Jermaine V. Bridgmohan, one of the more experienced jockeys in this meet. He's got a 5% career win rate but his real value here is as an exacta partner — at 5/2, he has enough form to press or track Latin Force through a one-mile turf trip. Trainer Bruce L. Riecken also sends out Way Up North in this same race, giving him two shots, which suggests confidence in the barn's turf form today.
Airmail Flyer is the value piece at 9/2 with the best career win percentage in the field at 12%, and a TrackWiz rating of 69.01 that slots him cleanly into the third-place discussion. Joel Berndt trains him with Constantino Roman in the irons — a reliable combination at Canterbury. With a 52 avg speed figure on turf and a proven winning record, he's a logical show bet and a key in your trifecta underneath.

A stakes race with a genuine standout — Benz Lake Echo's TrackWiz rating dwarfs the field — but the morning-line favorite How Bout That Curt and the consistent Navarre ensure this six-furlong sprint won't go unchallenged.
Benz Lake Echo is the play here, and it's not particularly close on the ratings — his 85.62 TrackWiz score is 20 points clear of the next-best contender in a five-horse stakes field. Trained by Troy A. Bethke with Sachin Parris up, he carries a 25% career win rate and an avg speed figure of 55, the highest in the race. At 4/1 on the morning line, he represents genuine value against the 8/5 morning-line chalk, and our analysis strongly favors him as the top selection.
Navarre profiles as the most interesting underneath runner with a 33% career win rate — the highest in the field — and a TrackWiz rating of 65.56 that makes him a legitimate place threat. Alonso Quinonez takes the mount for trainer Troy A. Bethke, who also trains the top pick Benz Lake Echo, giving the barn an excellent win or place outcome in this race. At 5/2, he's a solid exacta partner and worth including in trifectas.
How Bout That Curt opens as the 8/5 morning-line favorite and carries a strong 28% career win rate, so it would be a mistake to dismiss him entirely despite our preference for Benz Lake Echo. Constantino Roman rides for Tony Rengstorf, and the 54 avg speed figure is competitive for six furlongs on the dirt. If the pace scenario sets up for a closer, he could easily swoop past for a piece of the exotics.
