Canterbury Park Picks & Predictions — June 13, 2026
Canterbury Park is open for business on a beautiful Saturday afternoon — partly cloudy skies, 72°F, and what looks like a genuinely fun 7-race card to dig into. Conditions are about as good as it gets for mid-June in Minnesota, and with a mix of dirt sprints, turf routes, and everything from maiden claimers to allowance company, there's something here for every kind of player.
Today's card runs the full spectrum of conditions — we've got maiden claimers kicking things off, a pair of 7½-furlong turf claimers in Races 5 and 7, and an allowance test in Race 4 that features our most intriguing value angle of the afternoon. Seven races, two surfaces, and TrackWiz analysis on every single one of them.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Claiming · 7 fur · Dirt
A five-horse maiden claiming opener where two horses separate themselves from the pack on TrackWiz ratings, setting up a likely duel between the top two numbers in the field.
Copperjacket tops our TrackWiz ratings at 88.83 in a field that drops off sharply after the top two, and trainer Tony Rengstorf puts Eduardo Gallardo in the irons — a confident jockey booking for a debut or returner. The 9/5 morning line makes this the public's choice, but the rating edge is legitimate, sitting nearly four points clear of the next-best horse. In a maiden field where experience is limited across the board, that margin of superiority is hard to dismiss.
Road Rules checks in with an 84.81 TrackWiz rating — second-best in the race — and draws the rail with Constantino Roman up. Roman is one of the busiest riders at Canterbury this meet, giving the connections reliable veteran hands in what figures to be a front-running or stalking trip at seven furlongs. Even at 5/2, there's solid each-way value if Copperjacket hits any trouble.
Stauf drew the morning-line favor at 2/1, so the crowd clearly respects this one despite a 60.54 TrackWiz rating that slots third in this field. Trainer Jose Silva Jr. has a second entry in the race (Ruly's Street), which sometimes signals the barn is targeting this spot hard. At even money or better in the show pool, Stauf is a reasonable exotic saver.
Race 2
Starter Optional Claiming · 7 fur · Dirt
This starter optional claiming sprint features a pair of horses with legitimate win percentages battling a lightly-raced morning-line chalk, making pace and class the keys to sorting it out.
Words of Wisdom is the standout here — an 88.54 TrackWiz rating leads the field by a comfortable margin, and a 28% career win rate tells you this horse knows how to close out a race. Trainer Tony Rengstorf saddles Alonso Quinonez, one of the sharper pilot-trainer combos at Canterbury right now. Posting at 2/1 on the morning line, this isn't a steal, but the combination of top rating and proven winning form makes Words of Wisdom the most trustworthy single in the early races.
Fort Warren is sneaky-interesting at 4/1. A 78.41 TrackWiz rating is right on par with Dual Monarchy, and a 23% career win rate in the optional claiming ranks suggests this horse has competed and won at a similar level before. Manuel Americano has been reliable in the irons at Canterbury, and if the pace gets honest up front, Fort Warren's profile looks like a horse that can close into a soft pace scenario.
Dual Monarchy holds a 78.17 TrackWiz rating — essentially a dead heat with Fort Warren — but the 8% career win rate raises a flag. Still, trainer Robert N. Cline keeps this one competitive on numbers, and Kelsi Harr gets the call. At 3/1, Dual Monarchy is a reasonable show anchor in exacta or trifecta tickets given the tight rating cluster in the middle of this field.
Race 3
Claiming · 5 fur · Turf
The card shifts to the turf for this five-furlong claiming sprint, and a tight trio at the top of the morning line makes this one of the most competitive races on the afternoon.
High Probability carries an 88.83 TrackWiz rating — tops in the field — and trainer Troy A. Bethke sends out Manuel Americano, a jockey who's been sharp on the Canterbury turf. The 9/5 morning line reflects public confidence, and while the speed figure advantage isn't enormous, posting the highest number in a five-horse claiming turf sprint is all you need to anchor your tickets. A 15% career win rate in the claiming ranks shows this horse is competitive but has room to improve, which is often the profile of a horse ready to fire.
Martini Man is the most proven winner in this field, plain and simple. A 28% career win rate combined with an 84.71 TrackWiz rating makes him a legitimate threat to steal the show at 8/5 — he may even be the public's play by post time. Eduardo Gallardo rides for trainer Coty W. Rosin, and their comfort on Canterbury's turf is a factor in a short five-furlong sprint where breaks and early positioning matter enormously.
Veracruz is worth including in tickets at 5/1. A 14% career win rate and a 69.95 rating slot this one clearly third in the pecking order, but trainer Stacey Rushton entered a second horse in the race (Go the Distance), which sometimes signals the barn sees a live field and is doubling up their chances. At 5/1, Veracruz is solid show value if the top two get tangled up early.
Our three free races give you a strong foundation for the day. On the dirt, Copperjacket opens the card as a 9/5 morning-line favorite in the maiden claimer at 7 furlongs, posting one of the stronger TrackWiz ratings in the early races (88.83). Race 2's Starter Optional Claiming brings Words of Wisdom into the picture at 2/1 — a manageable price for what our analysis projects as a well-positioned contender in a field that should offer legitimate pace to run at. Then we shift to the turf for Race 3, a 5-furlong sprint where High Probability matches Copperjacket's 88.83 rating at the same 9/5 morning-line price.
One thing to watch across all three of these free races: the 7-furlong dirt sprints in Races 1 and 2 could see front-end pace if multiple speed horses load in, which sometimes sets up a late-running type to pounce. Keep an eye on post positions and scratch activity before you finalize any tickets.
