Belterra Park Picks & Predictions — October 6, 2026
It's a beautiful Tuesday at Belterra Park — clear skies, 67°F, and an 8-race card that mixes dirt sprints, a pair of turf dashes, and a legitimate allowance test in Race 7. Conditions couldn't be much cleaner, and a firm turf course means speed figures should translate honestly today.
The card opens with three claiming sprints on dirt before shifting gears to the turf in Race 4, and it closes strong with Larksong drawing plenty of attention in the feature turf mile-and-a-sixteenth. There's something here for every type of bettor — straightforward win plays in the early going, and some genuinely interesting exotics opportunities as the card matures.
TrackWiz has full ratings on all 8 races. The first three are on us — free analysis, no subscription required. Races 4 through 8 are where the card gets spicy, and those are waiting for you behind the paywall.
Best Bets
Race 1
Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
A short-field claiming sprint where the top two on the morning line are closely matched on paper, but the TrackWiz ratings reveal a meaningful gap at the top that sets up a relatively clear pace hierarchy over 6 furlongs.
Artistic Laney heads our selections with the highest TrackWiz rating in the field at 89.12 — a clear edge over the rest of this claiming group. She's been consistent enough to post a 15% career win rate and her average speed figure of 54 fits this 6-furlong dirt sprint well. Gabriel Lagunes gets the call and should have her well-placed from the rail. At 8/5 on the morning line, she's not a gift price, but the ratings edge is substantial enough to make her our top choice.
Mizzen the Point (program #2) actually holds the morning-line favoritism at 7/5, and a 23% career win rate is the best in the field — that kind of consistency is hard to ignore. Her average speed of 55 edges Artistic Laney by a tick, so if pace dynamics shift or her rival has an off day, she's the most logical horse to grab a piece. Jockey Yarmarie L. Correa gives her a capable pilot and she makes a natural place-ticket inclusion.
Sarah Jane closes out our exacta and trifecta coverage at a 3/1 morning line, and trainer C. Louis Bates sends out two entries in this race — always worth noting when a barn has multiple runners. Her 15% career win rate and average speed of 54 are on par with the top choice, and the 70.81 TrackWiz rating suggests she's live enough to hit the board. If the top two hook up on the lead, she could be the one to benefit late.
Race 2
Claiming · 1 mi · Dirt
This one-mile dirt claimer features a morning-line favorite whose TrackWiz rating doesn't match the billing — Wave Skipper stands out as the class of the field on our numbers despite going off at a longer price than Clearsugar.
Wave Skipper (#3) is our top selection here, posting the field's highest TrackWiz rating at 87.81 while being listed at 5/2 — a price that looks generous given the edge our analysis shows. Trainer Jeffrey L. Greenhill has him in a spot where a 20% career win rate should translate over a classic one-mile dirt test. John McKee is a capable rider who knows how to navigate a route, and the combination of raw rating and fair morning-line price makes this a confident top selection.
Spring Spinning (#1) sits at 3/1 on the morning line and carries a 73.46 TrackWiz rating — second-best in the field and a clean tier above the rest of the chasing pack. Trainer Yimi Alvarez also saddles Peaches Point in this race, splitting his stable's effort, but Spring Spinning's superior rating suggests she's the barn's better option. A 10% career win rate is modest, but place exotics at this price deserve attention.
Spun to Purfection (#5) is an interesting show-ticket inclusion at 6/1, with a TrackWiz rating of 73.23 that essentially matches Spring Spinning's number — these two are in a dead heat for second-best on our model. The 8% career win rate is low, but that could reflect a horse who runs consistently in the money without always breaking through. Trainer Luis R. Dominguez sends her to a one-mile distance where closers can find room, and at 6/1 she represents real value in the exotics.
Race 3
Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
Three horses rated 80-plus crowd the top of this 6-furlong dirt claimer, setting up a competitive pace scenario where small margins could separate the winner — the tightest race on the card through three races.
Baladine (#3) gets the nod as our top choice with a 86.40 TrackWiz rating and a 9/5 morning line that pegs her as the public's slight choice as well. Trainer Hutch Holsapple puts her in a 6-furlong dirt spot where her average speed figure of 55 matches the field's top tier. A 10% career win rate is on the lower end, but TrackWiz ratings factor in more than raw win percentage — her form cycle and speed figures suggest she's primed to take this one. Albin Jimenez takes the mount and should find a comfortable stalking position in a competitive pace scenario.
McVicker (#5) is the value angle in this race — a 24% career win rate is the best among the top-rated horses, and his 85.62 TrackWiz score is essentially in a dead heat with Baladine. Trainer Charlie Livers has him at 4/1 on the morning line, which feels like a slight overlay given his win percentage and speed figures of 55 that match the leaders. Santiago Gonzalez is a live rider who puts horses in positions to compete, and McVicker looks like a prime place candidate.
Zimba Warrior (#1) rounds out our coverage as a 2/1 morning-line shot with an 81.85 TrackWiz rating — third-best in the field but clearly competitive. Trainer David Kirk, Jr. has him rated at a career win percentage of 19%, which is solid for a claiming runner, and Yarmarie L. Correa gets a prime rail draw to work with. His 55 average speed ties the top of the field, and at 2/1 he's a legitimate player in trifecta construction even if we like the other two slightly better.
Our three free races — all dirt sprints at six furlongs or a flat mile — give you a solid foundation for the day. Artistic Laney (Race 1, 8/5 morning line) leads our ratings at 89.12, matching the top mark on the entire card. Wave Skipper stretches out to a mile in Race 2 at 5/2, a pace scenario we find favorable given today's even, unbiased track. Baladine closes things out in Race 3 at 9/5 — a tight morning line that reflects how seriously the market is taking her.
The common thread across these three: pace shape sets up cleanly on a fair dirt surface, and none of these favorites appear to be papering over soft fields. These look like genuinely earned short prices, not chalk for chalk's sake. If you're building a pick-3 to start the day, our free analysis gives you the full picture on how to structure it.
